  1. Hey SoCal'ers, Are you a new or inexperienced Malifaux player looking for more games before you try your hand at a tournament, campaign, or league? Or maybe you just walked away from one of our demos at SoCal Malifaux, and you want to try out more things. Well, this event is just for you! On Saturday, March 31st, we'll be holding our first ever Achievement League in a Day for SoCal Malifaux! 2. For me it depends on strategy mix. I tend to categorize strategies in terms of "score now" versus "score later" mentalities. For example, Destroy the Evidence might be a score now setup, while claim jump is a score later scenario. In terms of manifesting I consider this along with my opponent's crew and their schemes. With faster crews that are looking to gain the upper hand quickly in a score-now situation, I tend to manifest early so my constructs gain +1 Wk/Cg and I can start pumping out more things in a hurry. If I'm against a slower crew looking to score later I will hold off a turn or so, and let my force build a little extra strength, or use Kaeris to take out their vanguard.
  3. *BUMP* 2 Days till Wondercon! Get your crews ready and come see us!
  4. Same, 100% carry on. Most gamers that don't regularly travel favor one gigantic bag for their whole collection. When you have to fly around a lot, you get to really appreciate the PACK C4's, the PACK Mini, and smaller cases.
  5. I'm assuming it will just be 3 30mm figures as well, with the sculpts matching the artwork in book 3. I painted up 3 different Collettes myself. Haven't really played them as avatar form though.
  6. If you're in SoCal, you're close to a henchman. Hop onto our facebook and we'll see you soon!
  7. Honestly, not much with Ramos. The best use I've had for Johan has been with Collette. He's cheaper and Collette can tote him around and drop him into things to chew on. Without mobility and with Ramos he's just a 6 stone early game bodyguard that if you're lucky may soak up a few hits and maybe get 1 swing in.

  9. Having a blast with Ramos and aRamos myself. The spiders would give you activation control it seems but like you said, you lack the up-front presence needed to defend the strategy. Easy strat for Lillith, tough strat for Ramos. Sounds like a challenge!
  10. Sounds awesome! I'll try to be there for one day since that weekend is my wife's bday. Should be a great event especially for new players and those interested in Malifaux!
  11. Gotta agree with Nix and Nilus, even though I'm on the West Coast and would love to see more visitors! I travel to Chicago frequently and it's pretty easy for me to find games there. Nix, Nilus- we gotta line up our travel schedules, lol. Chicago is the one town on my frequent flier list that never gets boring for me. That said- if you want a more "Hollywood" experience (better weather, hot chicks- easier to impress the local femmes with your accents!) , the guys at SoCal Malifaux would be willing and able to get you some regular games in too.
  12. Blood Bowl- still one of my all time favorite games. I'm excited to be playing tonight for the first time in almost a year (Malifaux has taken over!). Spectacular game and hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
  13. My wife is an utter non-gamer. She is great about giving me time for the hobby, but I now understand that she just won't game past anything save trivia or standard board games. For her part she has tried a few times, she's played Puppet Wars and has had an okay time playing it- and she loves all the miniatures, she enjoys seeing my finished work and she'll even help me out with terrain once in a while. My wife is well educated, she teaches English and Theater, and she's one of the sharpest people I know. But she's NOT a gamer. The way she explains it, having to consider strategy, tactics, juggle math and spatial relationships without getting paid isn't her cup of tea. You could say it feels like work to her. And not just Malifaux, ANY game that requires strategy, conditional thinking and math isn't for her ultimately. As her husband, I just have to accept that this part of my life isn't something she can enjoy with me, and we've come to an understanding here. Like you- I've tried to get my wife to play Malifaux. Aesthetically she is attracted to the showgirls- so talk about complicated crew. So instead of throwing rules, measuring, etc. all in her face, I simply let her run around with Cassandra and a Performer and kill some undead things, with little regard to the actual rules. I just let her enjoy the very simple pleasure of playing cards in a duel, and she enjoyed it, yet had no interest in learning anything more. And that's as far as that will ever go. It is important to accept that, as part of the person you are committed to. Now maybe your girlfriend is different, but from everything I read (and yes I read the WHOOOLE thing...) she sounds exactly like my wife in this one regard. My thoughts are: you are best to just find things that you can both fully enjoy with your time together. Gaming (at least the games you're interested in) may not be one of those things.
  14. Mine also had the deeper trays, and I don't have problems with the weird angles/appendages. It seems to fit the bag okay, but you do get a bit of a "chewed" edge from the zipper.
  15. Yeah it should be a lot of fun! Hope to see you guys out there.
  16. ^ This. + a lot! Silent Ones do take a bit of care in order to get your value from them, but they can add a lot to the crew. Raspy's crew has some well known vulnerabilities to be sure, but that's the price you pay for a master who can kill most other masters in the game dead, at such a range.
  17. You can also check out this article, which sort of compliments the statistic heavier pullmyfinger wiki: http://ordosylvanus.com/socalmalifaux.com/index.php/articles/arcanists/53-welcome-to-the-show-notes-for-collette I also have a Youtube series on playing Collette: http://ordosylvanus.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=73:notes-for-collette-the-youtube-series&catid=49:malifaux&Itemid=72
  18. You're an exception until other folks catch up. Arcanists: Because nobody in your group plays them yet.
  19. I played her avatar a few times and I enjoy it. Sure, it's no "death spam from range" model, but it's a decent option when the other guy is trying to swarm you in melee (like many folks try to do to Raspy). When I take her, I don't make it a priority to manifest because you definitely want Raspy doing what she does best early-mid game. Late game I really like the Avatar, because opponents dodge ice blasts all game trying to get to you, only to discover you can devour their master. Devour. Arcanists: Our models are more likely in stock!
  20. This is exactly why I love Arcanists, and why I'm doing a Youtube series about Ramos. There aren't wrong answers, just answers that are wrong for you. To me- that's what a balanced faction is. I love that Arcanists are passed by, ignored, underrated. I love that the "power players" covet and coddle their FOTM crews, while they miss out on the real depth of play that this faction brings. Like I say in the arcanist intro article (http://socalmalifaux.com) people think masks are cool and books are boring. They miss out on the fact that books have the greatest potential of all. Arcanists: Reading is fundamental!
  21. I'll be picking him up sometime soon, but I want to run a fun list just to show people what crazy movement tricks he is capable of. I already have 4 night terrors, probably picking up 2 more, and some insidious madness, Teddy, and Coppelius. I don't intend to bury the NT's nor Insidious Madness because I think those are more hilarious to fling about the table on their own, and Teddy and Copp make for a solid hit squad that doesn't just sit on you, it needs to pick its fights better.
  22. Besides being a Malifaux PhD with Collette... Soulstone Miners and current bury mechanics + Raspy. Soulstone Miners. Ramos/Kaeris 2012. That's where my votes are, baby! Raspy 16" overpower deathray. Raspy 9" overpower deathchill Coryphee Duet. It's not just for Showgirls you know! I know our stuff isn't quite as impressive as the other factions, but still. Arcanists: Because everything else just seems too trendy.
  23. I love playing Marcus. He's a huge challenge to me, but I know he can be played well. To be honest of the arcanist beasts that are out, I really only like the molemen, jackalope, and sometimes raptors can be useful. Outside of Collette, Marcus is the fastest arcanist master, the problem I have with him is keeping him and his crew on the table. With the right strategies and schemes, you can score VP pretty quickly with him, it's keeping him around afterward which is my main challenge.
  24. Great tourney guys! Very well played and closest tourney result ever! Hey Keltheos, can you clarify that one rule where you activate, and then... *hides* *grin*
