  1. Thanks, all!

mgsanna, link at the end of the first line...

Like I said, no idea. For some reason the sizes aren't even in order. I tried uploading the same one twice, resized and saved differently, and it was still all wiggy.

  2. Cool, glad you're liking it!

I'll need to check out Blame, the style looks very nice. Thanks for the recommendation. If you're in to that art style, there's a funky little one-shot comic that I think was put out in the 90's called The Luck in the Head that I really liked. It's fantasy, and definitely more stylized, but has a similar sort of gloomy/monstrous thing going on, with spidery inking.

  3. Thanks!

I can't pinpoint the specific basis, just bits and pieces from a lifetime of body horror media- giger, cronenberg, berserk are probably the core of that list of general life influences- funny thing, there: Kingdom Death has its obvious inspiration from Berserk (if you haven't played/just saw the minis, the actual environment is made out of stone faces), but I hadn't realized Dark Souls was also somewhat inspired by Berserk, some interview mentioned it. Also, probably a bit that my first heavily modified army was Nurgle-themed, which let me run wild with rotting body parts plus weird tech.

I haven't looked at Angel's Egg in years, but remember enjoying that one. If you like that bleak tech future (what I remember from the series), I'd highly recommend Texhnolyze as a more polished version of some of the same sensibilities.

  4. Thanks, all!

Rust, would love to see what you do with it, I think you've definitely got the blending techniques that it wouldn't take you long to get in to it once you have the conceptual stuff in place. Also, LMK if there's any bits on my article that could be improved :)

waghorn, yeah, it was a little odd- I was trying to avoid any orange on the model, since I thought it would detract from the rest of the palate, but it ended up with a really saturated red. If I'd had another day or two, I'd have probably added a little grey to the highlights to tone it down a little, but I was off camping...

Whirler, yeah, that's kinda' whatcha' get when painting GW minis. Sometimes I try and tone it down a bit with their lines since a whole gothic army is a bit much, but with the near-baroque-levels of detail on the big boss man, I decided to embrace it for what it is and just try for solid, if overwrought, detail.
