  1. Hi, New player question: Can/has anyone compiled a list of when you can and can't cheat cards? As new players, we are getting confused, and could do with a quick reference list. Off the top of my head: NEVER if you suffered any Attacks Yes to Strike Attack flip Yes to Defense flip Yes to Attacker trying to overcome a successful defense Yes to Defender trying to overcome a cheated attack Spells Yes to Casting flip Yes to Resist flip No to Caster then trying to overcome a successful Resist Yes to Damage flips No to Healing flips No to Wound Prevention flips No to Initiative flips No to rules argument settling flips! Are these all correct, and are there any I've missed out? Thanks!
  2. If we're going to use precedents...Lucius is a Latin name, and the Romans pronounced their 'C's hard, not soft, so it would be Lew-Key-us. This also gives the 3 syllables needed for Titus. Personally, Lew-shuss.
  3. Thanks for all the great replies, lots of good tactica there for me to learn! A solution has presented itself: the friend with The Dreamer has just ordered himself the Ortegas, as the Lady J player and myself already had our crews before he bought LCB, so he has changed to a book 1 crew, at least until we're all a bit more experienced. I am lucky to have such a friendly gaming group, particularly this guy. Now I'm going to go and rip that silly hat off with my claws! PS I probably won't, as whatever crew he uses, he's still a better gamer than me; at least this way I might get the odd win though!
  4. Thanks for the advice! I am new to the game, but an old 40K player, and so far have the "Stick to your favourite list" and "list building against a specific opponent is unsporting" mindsets! Thinking about it, the fact that you officially don't choose your crew until after you know the objectives turns that on its head! I feel better knowing it's a bad match-up, and that also explains why my games against the Lady J starter set were balanced! Book 1! I will have to get Rising Powers if I am to stand a chance, clearly, as my son just got Hoffman, and another buddy got Colette, if book 1 struggles against book 2 it's going to hurt! Is there still a place for Lilith in a brave new Book 2 world? I have loved the mini from years before, and have loved her character from other books (Sandman/Lucifer, American Gods etc), and would hate to have to leave her at home. Maybe I'll just bring her to the games anyway, standing on the touchlines cheering her kids on, like a soccer mom. In a corset. With a dirty great sword. Seriously though, with the majority of my (small) friendly gaming group running book 2, does my Lady J friend and myself need to move into the new era with different masters?
  5. I may have mis-remembered; may have only been 7'.
  6. Hi, I'm a new player, running Lilith; I'm playing 25SS games against other new players; my games against Lady J have been even, but against the Dreamer I am just hopeless. My list: Lilith, 3 tots, Mature, Cherub; plenty of models I could use as proxies, but I don't have Rising Powers, only the V2 PDFs, so only pre-rising power cards. His list: Dreamer/LCB, Teddy, 3 Stitched. Today we played 2 games, both standard deploment, plenty of walls (complete Terraclips street set); The first game was shared slaughter; I got tabled. The second was shared Destroy Evidence; Dreamer cast "I can fly", moved 14" (2 AP), triggered All My Friends, unburied every other model within 6"(including LCB in B2B with neutral objective). LCB then auto-activated, and took that objective. From that point on, and throughout the whole of the first game, I was trying to deal with a Deathstar where Teddy and LCB could eat anything that came close, and Gamble Your Life whittled away everything that tried to get near for a charge. Ouch! Am I just being incompetent, or is this a hard match-up? None of his models bestow Blood Counters, so I didn't get to grow, they don't get spattered by Black Blood, and Alluring doesn't work. Tots are useless, Lil and Mature are no match for LCB/Teddy when close together; killing Dreamer early won't work because it brings ALL is buried stuff on, immediately eating whatever killed the Dreamer. Help please?!? Thanks for any advice
  7. New player question here! How do you measure when a model enters terrain? I cast a patch of Illusionary Forest, which puts a 3" circle of forest on the board; a model wanted to charge 7" through it with an 8" charge range, although the straight line ONLY JUST ENTERED the edge of the circle. We measured the movement: If he moved along the charge line, there were three possible results: i) Move until any part of his model's base touches any part of the forest (3.5"), Move through forest (2", severe=4"), move remainder (1.5"); 8" Charge works, but an argument about accuracy! ii) Same, but rounding up to whole inches, 4+4+2 Charge fails iii) Looking solely at the charge line and ignoring base widths, open 4", forest 0.5", open 2.5", charge easily passes. (we did a draw to settle, but how do you guys settle this one?!)
  8. I have had this mini for 5 years, and she is gorgeous; I am a newcomer to Malifaux, and was going to use her as Lilith, until I saw Nekima! Now I can have both! This model includes a metal 20mm square base with some texturing, and including base stands 62mm high to the top of her sword (the haft spike, actually, as the sword is inverted!) Without the square base, she has an irregularly shaped wedge/spike into the ground below her hooves, so if you wanrt a resin base you'll need to file her wedge and drill the base, or if you want a slotta base, you'll need to GS a good foundation. The wings are separate, and it wouldn't take much GS-filling and smoothing if you wanted to leave them off, so that you could have her bare backed. BTW, where can I download stat cards for her, and also the Black Blood Shaman? I want a different model for him too, and their stats aren't in the "NeverbornV2" download on www.Malifaux.com?
  9. Well, I got the rules manual, and they had no decks in stock so for now I'm going to deface a cheap pack of regular cards. From the above advice, I was decided on either Lady J or Lilith, as they both seemed robust starter choices, and I love a woman in a corset! In the end, fate decreed that it was Lilith, as Lady J was out of stock. I've actually had an exquisite picture of her and a tot on my computer since 2008, so it was destiny! Thanks for all your input, now to try and learn the rules! Probably won't get far until I get a demo game! Oh, and Heroes and Legends were very helpful!
  10. My Skaven ARE naughty rats in the 41st millenium! My Rat Ogre/ Tyrant Guard carries a stolen Rhino door as a shield to defend his master! My pinning skills are sufficient to take on trickier models, I'm already leaning towards Lady J as a good beginners faction. Right, I'm off to Heroes and Legends in Kingston right now! Shiny things await!
  11. Tomorrow I am going to do my first Malifaux purchase, although I have a few assorted Wyrd minis from years ago (I like proxy armies!) 1) Where do I start? I presume the new rules manual, rather than the old book, or do I need both? And a card deck, yes? What about the puppet deck? 2) Until I have chosen my faction, can I manage with any miniature figurine, with a sticky label name tag? 3) How did you choose your faction/build? Start with a boxset, or individuals? I know nothing yet, so I probably won't buy figures tomorrow, just books and cards, but once I'm there, is it safe to just choose based on liking the models and fluff? Are there any turkeys to avoid? My background is 6 years of 40K, Renegade mixed gender Space Marine first, then Skaven-Counts-As-Tyranids, and I love both my proxy armies; my son however tried Necrons, Tau, and DA before finally realising he was a Guard! Expensive learning curve! I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could give me a link to a good 'How to choose your gang' article. Thanks, and I hope I'm welcomed to the game! Commander Sasha
