  1. Awesome... I've been toying around with Ratty's excellent crew creator and threw together the following for a starter 25ss list McMourning - 6SS cache Sebastian 4x Canine Remains Nurse Convict Gunslinger This is the list I'll likely be trialing first as working from the box it's nice and easy to expand to (particularly as i have an awesome mini to use as a gunslinger in the short term) Now i know there's no totem in that, but would it be worth swapping the Gunslinger & a starting dog in favour of a hanged or would dropping the Gunslinger & 2 Dogs for Bete Noir & a totem be the better option
  2. Thanks all for the warm reception Eric, i'm sure you're right, just haven't found them yet Ghostwalker, I haven't checked through the opponent finder properly yet, and had a few issues with the google map and trying to get a pin on it (though no pins nearby) Clousseau, good to know OneWhoFell, yeah, i'll get there on crew choice, a McMourning crew has dropped in to my hands very cheap so for now it's them to start... but i'm sure it won't take long to get a 2nd, 3rd and more crews, it's just such an awesome system
  3. Most of our games will be against Lilith, Lady J, Rasputina, Marcus & likely Gremlins... now Lilith has already set herself up as something of a benchmark, particularly trying to deal with Lilith herself with her insane Def8 OK, so a bit more research and i've come to these conclusions I know the dogs will be a big help against Lilith to potentially lower her DEF I know nothing really about the Guild Autopsies, any advice on whether they'd be a good option with McMourning would be appreciated From looking through the V2 card downloads it would seem the crooked men could be a very good option even without Belles for some innate board control (not a big fan of the Belles minis or having to get a pack of 3 when i'd likely only use 1, maybe 2) The Punk Zombies seem like they'd be amazing for dealing with Neverborn def values, Cb7 & paired but from what i've read on the forum they might be a bit fragile (particularly as our Lady J player is already eyeing up the Ortegas) Hanged and their WP abilities seem like they'd be a good option, just not quite sure about neverborn and their stuff already being terrifying countering what it can do Necropunks, they definitely have the speed but as Hookers said, it seems like adding too many fragile models to a list if i already had 4 canines (unless i went 2 dogs & a couple of necropunks) And finally the gunslinger, he just seems 100% awesome, i'm definitely going to give him a test run i think, but if there's any reason i might have overlooked as to why he might not be great with McMourning then i'd like to hear that too Edit - Another quick question (sorry i'm bombarding the thread with them but McM seems to be an expensive setup and i'm a bit limited on what i can get straight off) if i get Bette Noir will i particularly need anything like the Hanged or Punk Zombies to be a hard hitter or will Bette & summoned Golems be plenty alongside McM & Seb?
  4. Ok, all sounding pretty good Osoi - thanks re the grave spirit, managed to mis-read that point about the armour Seems to me that McMourning is a very in your face playstyle but what about ranged options - Hanged, Autopsies or even a Gunslinger? or some board control from the crooked men... or is this where McMourning doesn't really care what gets bought along
  5. Thanks guys... so with McMourning if you're getting the box and some doggies what's a good way to go to round out 35ss? Bette? Crooked Men? Hanged? Punk Zombies? or are belles going to be flat out the best choice And is the Chihuahua that good compared to using the Grave Spirit to get McMourning some armour?
  6. Hi, so i'm not the one that'll be running McMourning but one of the other people locally may and asked me to put up a couple of questions as they don't get online that often 1) Can McMourning run effectively with no canine remains? If so which other minons should be his go to option(s) And if not or if it's really hamstringing yourself to do so is it ok to run just the chihuahua and 2 or will he really need more than just 2 with Sebastian on the field potentially summoning more 2) As it gets mentioned ALOT in write ups of McMourning and presumably with good reason just how good is the Rogue Necromancy (we're working from just the rules manual at the moment) is it really an essential or are a couple of flesh constructs enough to lay a beat down on people, particularly as they don't cost as many parts to summon
  7. Well i've already been posting a little in the faction forums while i'm finding my feet but thought i'd put up an introduction too Long time gamer but just started playing malifaux locally in Hastings, East Sussex... i know there's a small group playing malifaux in Eastbourne too but if there's anyone else feel free to drop me a pm Still personally trying to decide which crew to grab first but a nice selection is cropping up already with Marcus, Lilith, Lady J & Rasputina and i'm likely going Neverborn with Zoraida and i'll definitely be getting Ramos in the future And glad to be part of what has been a great community so far
  8. Well it's good to know it can work True Collodi is very nice background wise from what i know, and very handy to know that maybe he's a little easier than Ophelia to get to grips with... I'm just not sure yet, I'm suffering massively from wanting to run just about everything at the moment so until i sit down and actually force myself to buy the minis i'm very much up in the air between pure Zoraida with an alternate setup or one of the 2 mentioned Henchmen and then adding Zoraida to it to give me more options... particularly as the other options will probably be bought over the next couple of months And thanks for the welcome
  9. OK, so i've done some more research (Rathnard's tactica on Aethervox is awesome) on Zoraida and with the possible exception of the mini i'm absolutely sold, and i don't really mind the mini all that much That said because of the other local players (Marcus with Silurids/Waldegeist & Lilith with Neph) i'm still going to go with other options so i think it's either going to be the above - Gunslinger, Stitched & Copellius or the LaCroix box which i hadn't really considered before but i've had my eyes opened on thanks to Rathnard, my only question now would be is while i'm gathering minis is a pure LaCroix build with Zoraida doable and if so even remotely effective or would it be better to add a couple of LaCroix alongside some of the other Neverborn options And thanks for all the advice, this is a great community
  10. I'm only going to be running one or the other at first while we're all learning locally, but at 35ss i definitely want to run both or at least have the option to That said so far it's all been about Zoraida... how good is Collodi straight from the box to learn with?
  11. Allidor, cheers for the extra lists, i'd rather steer clear of Nephilim for now as we not only have a marcus player but we have a Lilith player and i'd rather not have too many models that are appearing in their crews too That said that final list that includes Coppellius i really like the look of, what do people reckon of: Zoraida Coppellius 2 Stitched Convict Gunslinger
  12. Nice, i really like all the models in that list actually... the stitched are one of the Neverborn models that particularly caught my eye, the gunslinger and doppelganger just look great... ok that said i haven't found many Wyrd minis i don't like the look of but with someone like Zoraida it's tricky to know where to start
  13. Oh i'll definitely be going magnets/modular for the spiders, have read far too many threads advising it @Lobo - yeah, pullmyfinger has become something of a bible for those of us getting into the game for some starting inspiration
  14. Hi, I'm new to playing malifaux and even though i'm seriously considering other masters as well Ramos is a figure that caught my eye when i first looked at the system and will likely be an early purchase regardless of anything else so i thought i'd ask a few questions Considering the other local players are starting with Justice, Perdita, Lilith and Marcus how hard a time might Ramos have against these mostly fast melee orientated masters as he's more of a back field summoner? Am i likely to find myself on the back foot early or with being able to summon more spiders am i likely to be able to hold my own and force opponents into an atrition game againt recycling forces? Aside from the box set, the electrical creation and a mobile toolkit which seems to form the core of many Ramos crews on here are there any other options that should be seen as pretty much a must have for a starting Ramos player? Thanks
  15. Well, as the title covers i'm a new player to malifaux (completely new, one test game in about to order a crew) and i'm seriously considering Zoraida or Collodi as my first master and figured i'd ask some questions First off, which is the easier to use/learn? Second, with a starting Marcus player locally i'm not particularly interested in running Silurids with Zoraida and therefore would be looking for other options, is there a relatively straightforward build for 25ss that can be used instead of the box set? (and i'll admit this is also why i started looking at Collodi) Third and finally, how reasonable is Collodi's box set for a new player? I know with so few options available to him currently there's nothing particularly missing but other than a pack of Stitched will i find myself needing anything else quite quickly? Thanks
