  1. Right, so. I'll be playing in my very first tournament ever this weekend if all goes according to plan. I'm debating playing Guild or Arcanists. Guild because I have two masters, Arcanists because Colette is easily my best master.

Anyhow, I figure it all comes down to how competitive I can be against different factions with what models I have. So, for the guild I have:

    Lady Justice

    Sonnia

    Judge

    Samael

    Executioner

    Death Marshals

    Witchling Stalkers

    Scales of Justice

And for Arcanists, I just have the typical Colette crew (Colette box, Coryphee, Doves).

So what do you think? Is my selection of Guild models adaptable enough to do them, or should I just stick with the less adaptable crew that I know so much better?

Edit: It occurs to me that I posted this in the Guild section, when I meant to post it in the general section. Could a mod move it, please?

  2. Right, so I just got $50 in the mail (woohoooooo!), and I plan on spending it on Malifaux. I want to get a new crew, but i'm having a hard time deciding. I am looking at either Kaeris or Sonnia right now.

    Currently I have:

    Colette box + Coryphee

Justice box + Scales of Justice

    Seamus box + Copycat Killer

Got any advice for which of the two boxes to get next?

  3. As I was perusing a friend's copy of Twisting Fates and reading the excellent story in it, it occurred to me that I have quite a few friends who would love the story presented in the three books, but have no interest whatsoever in mini wargaming.

Does Wyrd have any plans to release the storyline as a separate novel at any point? I can't speak for everyone, but I think that'd be awesome.

  4. I was answering the OP. Which was Raspy and Kaeris. Colette was not mentioned in the OP.

    Ah, whoops. My bad.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. Without some way to generate soulstones, that combo seems like it'd have resource management nightmares.

  5. Just remember when that list turns out to be highly competive(and maybe even OP)...I was the one who named it :)

Dunno if there's a chance of that. I think that the second Sonnia shows up, it's all over.

    Still, though, lots of fun.

I worry about the number of ss that you'll go through...both Raspy and Kaeris seem to need them.

Hence Colette. She'd probably just be hanging out by herself, cranking out soulstones. Maybe, maybe one or two showgirls, but that's it.

  6. Now all you need to do is figure out how to use a showgirl in the list and it can be

A Song of Ice and Fire :)

Not gonna lie, I've been thinking of how feasible it would be to have a Colette/'Tina brawl with Kaeris in the list. I imagine that Colette would have to relegated to soulstone factory duty, though those doves could be pretty damn handy.

  7. When Hiring its 1SS per model Correct? excluding masters.

Oh, no, no, no. Each model costs a certain number of soulstones that is written on the card. You subtract that from the point value you're playing (ie: a 25 ss game, a 35 ss game, etc). Any leftover points are added to your master's cache to determine how many soulstones you have for use while playing.

    An example:

In a 25 SS game, a list I wold take would be:

    Colette

    Cassandra - costs 9

    Performer - costs 6

    Performer - costs 6

    Mechanical Dove - costs 2

This leaves me with 2 soulstones left over which is added to Colette's cache of 3, giving me 5 soulstones to play with during the game.

  8. we both just do Assassination since thats what we are used to doing as War Machine Players.

Well, right there is your biggest problem. I can tell you right now that you are, in fact, limiting yourself quiiiiite a bit by doing this. Malifaux is definitely not just a slug-it-out fight. In fact, for many crews, this is the absolute worst thing you could pick. Try the game out with a couple different strategies and schemes, you'll find that the gameplay changes considerably.

And I do mean that this is a huge change.

  9. Its possible but I don't think the Dreamers Nightmares have a Lovecraftian feel to them.

To me Lovecraft is all about god like alien creatures that are so much greater then ourselves that they don't even notice us. Nyhtmare seems to involved in whats going on.

Although I guess it could be a Avatar of Nyarlathotep

I actually see the Dreamer himself as the most lovecraftian thing in the crew. He has phenomenal cosmic power to twist reality to his whim and doesn't even recognize us as anything more than playthings - mere figments of his imagination.
