  1. I'm going to be running all my tournaments on TP (ie, win/draw/loss) and Strength of Schedule. It's the best way for a huge number of reasons. ---------- Post added at 06:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:21 PM ---------- I think this must be a personal thing. You have a personal issue with me or maybe some other posters, that's fine, but "a great many people" seems like an exaggeration. Look, I'm not a nasty person (and neither are others like pockets whom you may be aiming this comment at). I'm opinionated, and yes, I'm not afraid to tell people when I think they're wrong. That doesn't mean I'm not a nice guy, and you shouldn't let forum arguments get to you. I don't let them get to me and I don't take anything that anyone says as offensive. It's the internet, things are a little more pointed than real life, but you have to realise that no one is out to ruin anyone else's day (at least I'm not). If I've genuinely upset you to the point where you feel that you don't want to get involved anymore, then I apologise.
  2. Really nice list. Agree with all of them except point 1 - Malifaux has a huge luck component, even moreso than dice games. Cards are a lot more fun but a lot more prone to extremes.
  3. Speed can stop you being dead in the first place. Speed can let you hang back and get involved only when you need to, or it can get you out of trouble you got in to. Speed can ensure you can commit to fight in one area, and still shoot out to grab an objective in another later. And so on. It's by far from the only requirement, but a low speed is crippling. For example, against good player, Nicodem will often enter combat on the "engagement turn" having had to spend 1ap on movement, which is a big deal, and once he's committed he's not getting out until the fight is over.
  4. Read the previous blinding flash thread. It's not quite that easy (at least, I dont think!)
  5. I fully understand that not everyone really gets the extremely self-confident stance that some people take (such as myself); a lot of people even have genuine issues with said personality type (in real life as well as on the forums). That does not, however, translate to it being Hubris whenever someone says "I'm right, you're wrong".
  6. I agree that that is literally all it needs; a rewrite so that effects expire. However, it's not our job to prescribe specifics, hence why I steered clear

I'd do it. Not your fault the model is broken
  8. Actually, the conditions for a good master - and model - in Malifaux are pretty simple: Maneuverability. No matter what else your model does, if it can't maneuver effectively, it has to be very good in some other area to be viable. A model can be weak in any number of areas but if it is weak in maneuverability, it is pretty much instantly relegated to the naughty corner. That's maybe a bit more specific than the scope of this thread, but it is pretty much the main thing that holds Rezzers (and Guild) back from being better factions.

    Killjoy

Infinite Mosquito loops are abusable, more at 11! He'll do serious damage wherever he pops up. That's a given really. And he's not *reliant* on suits. Three attacks at Cb7 4/5/7 will put the hurt on anyone, even if he doesnt hit a single Onslaught (which is relatively unlikely given your hand and 3 attacks). Masters, as usual, may not be the best target but then again, a lot of masters have low Df and soulstone flips of low numbers happen plenty often. Furthermore; even if you attack a master and all you do is burn 3 SS off him, and then soak up 3-4 attacks (or maybe more, thanks to HtW 2) and then die, then black blood wounds, terrifying tests and Slow to Die action all combined can still mean that he was a valid use of points if you have appropriate stuff going on whilst it is happening.
  10. Run, RUN WHILST YOU STILL HAVE A BANK BALANCE
  11. She's only difficult to kill if you're willing to burn stones on her, really. Her Wp is on the low side of average for Pitiful duels and her (0) action to regain it eats one of her action-modified actions. She's about average survivability overall for a 9pt model, I'd say, possibly even a bit below. She's definitely going to get some love in some of my lists soon™, albeit grudgingly.
  12. The only fluff you really need to read is The Dreamer's fluff. He has the best fluff. It's the main reason he's hugely popular.
  13. But the Scalpel slinging move is not necessarily an effect, and hence isn't necessarily paused. Read back on some discussions of the word "effect" to see what I'm getting at.
  14. Is damaging the defender an effect though?
  15. Hi! Pretty much everyone knows about this issue, so I won't go into detail about it. I'd like to ask in this semi-official format that bury is reworked so as not to be as abusable as it is now. I/We all know that you guys are horribly busy and have *lots* of rules that need your attention, but this mechanic in particular is being abused by a lot of different models (and causes a lot of rules queries and negative play experience) and is almost certainly not working as intended; it's probably the most clear cut problem rule out there right now, hence the request for a change to this specifically. My apologies if this is a little too forthright but it seems like a whole pile of abusive game mechanics could be fixed in one fell swoop! Yours hopefully Friendly Neighbourhood Calmdown
  16. True. But then, as with any business, the emphasis isn't on the customers to not complain about something that's broken; it's on the company to fix it
  17. Exactly. Some people confuse "can be made to win via skill/luck" with a master being good in actuality. And that's why they get upset when you put Nico in tier 5
  18. Don't push it Two of the top 10 ranked players in the UK is hardly easy players, tbh. If people would listen to me regarding tournament formats rather than sticking doggedly to VP difference as a differentiator, the "noobapult" (as mythicFOX calls it) wouldn't happen.
  19. Definitely make it a two dayer and make it good enough (professional enough, if you will; take advice from other TOs and the community on this) that it's worth the trip. Things like speaking to local hotels to get deals on rates, organising group train fares, and all that go a long way towards keeping costs down and making these trips viable.
  20. Holy moly, this is an epic interaction! I dont think there is any precedent or rules to cover it since both interactions happen at exactly the same time. Most games have an "active player chooses" or "active player effect happens first" rule to cover situations like this. Whatever the ruling on this is, will set the precedent for future rulings on simultaneous occurrences I believe.
  21. Importantly, anyone reading threads containing negative opinions should remember that if those of us that voice said opinions didn't care about the game, we wouldn't bother voicing them at all. These criticisms are borne of passion, and for a game to inspire this level of passion it has to be pretty damned epic. Malifaux is the best miniatures game I've ever played.
  22. What you should ask yourself, is if I was playing a master that was higher tier, would I have won the tournament instead of coming second? I havent posted the final report yet, but the answer is almost certainly yes. Nicodem with bad luck could only manage a draw. Had I been playing Kirai and had a bit of bad luck, I still would have likely not lost her because she has a proper defense mechanism and the main resason I lost is that Nicodem can't take a hit. So you can look at it as "Tier 5 managed second, that is great!" or you can look at it as "Only managed to get second thanks to master being Tier 5". I look at it the second way, personally.
  23. Yeh Rafkin is pretty average to be honest. His combat stats are not amazing, he's slow, and all of his buffs/utility are short range and cause him to be slower since theyre (1) actions.
