That Rasputina is beautiful. The use of subdued colours is really nice and the green sash is a fantastic touch. Any chance of a group shot?

First of all, those bases are wonderful. The painting is awesome too, I like the little details such as the 18 on his shoulder.

Here is the start of my Kirai crew which I've been slowly working on (read: owned and left unpainted) for a few months now.

I knew I had to paint him in red and have him as the "heart" of the force. He is Kirai's 1-up after all.

The model is still WIP as I'm not happy with the face. I'm tempted to make his eyes and the heart glow, any thoughts?

Kirai Herself will have slightly more contrasting highlights (they are barely visible in this picture) and the flower pattern will be added to bloth sleeves and the back of her kimono. I wanted her to look like a blood splattered maiden and I'll have a seperate miniature for her spirit form.

As I have never fully liked the Ikryo miniature (the strange bend in the cloak). I changed her to this:

Much more imposing. She will be much paler when finished, almost white cloth splattered liberally with gore.

Together they look a little mishmash right now. Hopefully as the rest of the crew is painted in the green/cream/purple scheme the vividness of Lost Love will stand out nicely rather than looking like he is from a different crew.

I'll probably be starting a blog after my exams are over to try and motivate me to get at least one of my crews finished.

I'm trying to read the Wheel of Time series as I have some friends who highly recommended it. It isn't pis*ing me off but its boring as hell so far.

The only books in recent years that I have given up on have been:

- The Elder Gods by David Eddings.

I loved his other series and this was a pile of s**t.

- The Helconia Trillogy by Brian Aldis.

The writing was brilliant, the story was massive in scape but at the end of the first book it builds up to a massive battle for ages and then..... a few thousand years later at a different part of the world...... BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CHARACTERS I LOVED? Someday I will go back and finish this series.

Those are amazing, especially the Silent one... I need to get me an arcanist crew.

The wording on swirling spirits is even looser as it just states :

'switch two friendly spirits within 12"of this model'

Kirai fulfils this criteria in my opinion.

as for the critical strike... normally with maths you multiply/divide before adding/subtracting, which is how we all used to play it and probably what your opponent was thinking as the rulebook mentions divides before addition... but it was ruled on another thread you half the TOTAL damage

That's what I was thinking, the rules manual supported him by its mathematics segment, glad to know I'm not the only person to encounter the problem.

It's not that I think Kirai should be able to swirl herself (if she can then she is ridiculously mobile) I just wanted to know if I had missed something from the rules (which is very likely as I still keep making big mistakes each game).

I didn't mean it in any negatory way! Hehe, usually if I have no idea which way a rule could sway I play by others understandings. Also Hans may have played more of a role had we played past turn 4...

@hippieshopper: is this (re 3 & 4) a general rule from somewhere in the manual or a precedent set by certain models rules?

And if the damage is not from a joker but from the critical damage trigger how would this affect #1?

I was certain that spells which caused damage were magical (Its obvious!) but looking through the magic section of the rules manual I couldn't find anything which actually specified that the damage was counted as magical.

We did play it as magical however, I'm not that pedantic.

As for critical damage I assumed that the 'bonus' damage was added before halving (spirit negates half of the incoming damage) but my opponent thought it may have been the other way around. I played this to his advantage as it only happened once or twice and his shooting was damaging his own models thanks to Immediate revenge.

Another final (for now) clarification, Kirai can use soothe spirit on herself when in spirit form can't she?

Probably not the best idea to start playing Kirai after only 3 games with the simple Viks. A few questions popped up that will probably be really easy to answer but I can't seem to find the answers.

When someone is attacking a spirit and triggers critical damage, will the damage be totalled and then halved or will the damage flip be halved and then critical damage added?

Are spells magical damage? This seems obvious but I can't find it stated anywhere in the rules manual.

Is Spirit Kirai a valid target for her own Swirling Spirits action.

Thanks, I'll check the Cmon database, didn't know that existed. As for Black scorpion I have a few of the western models but the scale is slightly smaller than Wyrds.

The clan wars models look good for some other elements of this force but I wanted very plainly dressed models for the kuroko. After more research I'm probably best looking for some ninja models and going from there.

I'm currently working on a Kirai group themed around kabuki theatre. For the seishin I want to have a daemon mask brightly painted held aloft by Stagehands painted all black.

The oni masks will be made from WFB ogre heads with extras sculpted on. As for the stagehands themselves, I have no idea.

At the minute the only thing I could think of is sculpting these completely from scratch or using some old ebob-armatures I have and saying that they are children.

Any one know of any models that might be easy to work into a role like this?

I've not played a game yet but I would probably sign up for this if I wasn't on holiday at the time.
