  1. On Wednesday 23rd March, I will be running an Enforcer Brawl tournament at York Garrison Wargaming club, from 1900 onwards:

    York Garrison Wargaming Club

    The Folk Hall

    Hawthron Terrace

    New Earswick

    York

    YO32 4AQ

We've had a number of new players locally, so I thought an enforcer brawl would be a fun way to get people playing together, even those with a limited model collection.

Rules will be as per the Official Enforcer Brawl format (http://www.wyrd-games.net/s/Organized-Play-Formats-17km.zip):

    Wyrd Official Enforcer Brawl Format
The Enforcer Brawl is an arena deathmatch where players take their favorite Enforcers and wreak as much mayhem as possible!

    Rules
Each player selects one Enforcer and attaches up to one Upgrade to it. The Upgrade must be something the Enforcer could have attached at the start of a normal game considering its Faction(s). (Leader only Upgrades may not be selected, for example.) The Enforcer must be one with a Cost which may be hired (no Coryphee Duets, for example).
The game is played on a standard table. Each player flips a card to determine deployment order; the player who flips highest deploys first, followed by the second highest, etc., until each player has deployed their Enforcer. If two or more players are tied, they reflip amongst themselves. Models may be deployed anywhere on the table which is more than 6” from another model.
Play proceeds for 6 rounds. Each round, all players flip for initiative; the player who flips highest must go first, followed by the second highest, etc. until all players have gone. If two or more players are tied, they reflip amongst themselves. If a model receives Reactivate, it receives a second Activation at initiative -1 (if multiple models Reactivate, they flip to determine which goes first).
Before the game, assign a suit to each table edge. On a player’s initiative, if they have no models in play or buried, they must flip a card which may not be cheated (reflipping jokers). The player places a new copy of the model they chose at the start of the Brawl (including its Upgrade) within 6” of the board edge corresponding to the suit flipped and then proceeds with their Activation as normal.

The Enforcer Brawl has the following restrictions/rules:

Players have a hand of 4 cards, instead of the usual 6.

Any Actions, Abilities, or Triggers which summon models are considered to be “blank” (they may not be used and have no effect on the game, as if they were not printed on the model).

When a model is buried, it may choose to be sacrificed instead (in which case it counts as sacrificed by the model which forced it to become buried).
    Scoring
At the end of 6 Turns, the player with the highest Victory Points wins. Players score VP in the following manner:

3 VP for each opposing model killed or sacrificed. A player scores 4 VP instead if the model they killed or sacrificed had a higher Soulstone Cost (including the cost of Upgrades) than their model did.
1 VP for dealing 1 or more damage to an undamaged enemy (this may stack with killing the model). A player scores 2 VP instead if the model they damaged had a higher Soulstone Cost (including the cost of Upgrades) than their model did.
-3 VP for each time the player’s model was killed or sacrificed.

I'll run it 4 players per table and we should have at least a couple of tables running.

No entry fee (other than the usual club night fees), so there's no prizes just bragging rights.

  3. Thanks to everyone who cam yesterday, it all seemed to go smoothly from my perspective.

I'm always interested in feedback though.  For example:

-Round timing - Too short or enough, did people get through 4 or 5 turns?

-Raffle prizes - All hobby this time, did you like that, do prefer models, or a mix of the two?

Speaking of raffles, we raised a brilliant £95 which will go to the British Heart Foundation.  Sam's doing his Prudential RideLondon 100 bike challenge again this summer on behalf of the BHF, so it will go towards that (we'll be running Heartfaux for the same cause on the 14/5

  4. Strategies and schemes are now posted in the first post.  Giving a bit of notice to speed things along on the day since there schemes are new to everyone.

I will print out some reference sheets for the new schemes, but if you have your own to bring that would be marvellous.

I will put a list of players on the front desk so you just need to report their when you arrive.  I believe we are on the 2nd floor again this year, not sure which side (hopefully same as last year so we have it to ourselves).

  5. On 30 January 2016 at 2:51 PM, Huwbe said:

    Hi there,

I've got a mate who wants to come along, is there any space left?

It's sold out in afraid.  He can go on the reserve list if I get a cancellation in the next week (I need his forum name or real name).

Alternatively he can come in the day if there's a no show he can play.  Can't guarantee him a game though.

  6. Sam (Secondbreky) and I are going to be running Heartfaux 3 charity tournament on Saturday May 14th 2016 at York Garrison Wargaming Club. This is the third Heartfaux charity tournament, following last two years successful events where we raised (over both years) around £900 for the British Heart Foundation (last year's totals:  https://www.justgiving.com/heartfaux/).

In August Sam will be taking part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 event which is a 100 mile cycling race from London out into Surrey and finishing on The Mall. It has "leg testing climbs" and part of it was used in the 2012 Olympic Cycling events, so rather him than me ;).  He's riding the race on behalf of the British Heart Foundation which is a charity that has been incredibly important to him.

It's a fairly straightforward format, 3 rounds at 50SS per round, fixed faction.

The tournament aim is 2 fold:

1- Play fun games of Malifaux

2- Raise money for the British Heart Foundation, which will be done via Sam's JustGiving page (https://www.justgiving.com/David-Wood59)

I'm sure we'll have some other stuff going on on the day, Artist Dave may be making an appearance again this year, and there will be the usual prize raffle.

Cost of the event is £15, but this doesn't include lunch (same as last year). This will be split to cover room costs, prizes and the rest going to the BHF (aiming for £5 per player donation). Payment details are in the rulespack (make sure you send the money AS A GIFT), and payment is the way the secure your place.

Lunch-wise, there's a cafe on site (still sorting out the details for that what will be on offer), but there's also Tescos/KFC/BK/McD within a 5 minute drive.

I'm starting with 32 places, since we have enough tables already at the club and I'll take it from there based on interest. We sold 28 last year, so I'd like to do even better than that this year. I will more than likely need some assistance with terrain however.

  7. As we get closer to the event, I need to confirm final number with the show organisers in the next couple of weeks, so if you would like to play then please buy a ticket.

Obviously with the numbers at the moment it doesn't make sense to split the tournament into two divisions, so if it remains at these numbers I will revise the rules pack into a more conventional tournament format.
