  1. I don't know what's happening but I can't get the pictures to full size! If anyone knows what I am doing wrong then I will edit the posts and get some decent pictures on there. Help! Please.
  2. I want to have a steam powered beam engine pump on the second board so I have raided the bits boxes and found an old wooden display stand (for the wheel), a copper pipe fitting, some washers and a paintbrush (for the pump) and a triang bridge girder, some toy bridge supports ,a curtain hanger, some dowel, a bit of MDF and an eye rivet (for the beam). Now i have to figure out the furnace, boiler, stack and drive. Later... Thanks for following my thread. I hope it inspires you to have a go at some terrain boards because they are great fun to design and build, and great to play on! More soon...
  3. I have added a few fences, gates to the lower mine entrance and buffers at the end of the tracks. The fences are made out of the candyfloss sticks, sharpened to a point, dipped in PVA glue and then driven deep into the polystyrene. Then they are clad in the coffee sticks and given a bit of wear and tear. The gates are made from sticks from and old placemat and some coffee sticks and will be painted as rusty metal. The buffers are both made from off-cuts of wood. I am trying a new idea with the stream. I have made the bank out of a thin strip of the polystyrene and shaped it. I want the stream to be rough and in full flow so I have textured the riverbed with 'Forget Nails' instant grab adhesive. I intend to paint washes of greens and browns, layering the colours, drybrush the high points with white, and then clear gloss varnish the lot to give it a wet look. The stream will drag some of te slag heap with it so that will be murky and discoloured along that area. Sounds good in principle so I hope it works out! Well that's it so far. Hope to do some more in the evenings this week and I will keep you posted on the progress. In the meantime I have started work on the Beam Engine for the second board - next post...
  4. I want to have some pieces on the board that can be moved to change line of sight etc. I raided my bits boxes and found an old Lesney tipper truck, a plastic HO guage train tender with one bogey still attached, and a clockwork Hornby wagon chassis with only one set of wheels. I dismantled the tipper truck and tender and added a few bits of lollipop sticks and made the slag-truck. It will have some rocks in it and a few more details when I get round to it. I found another axle and a pair of wheels for the wagon and carved out a basic shape for the coal heap and screwed it on. I made the sides out of more coffee and candyfloss sticks, keeping it rough and slightly damaged. I thought it would be an idea to have a drop side so figures could get in. The wagon will be painted in bright colours and then weather worn, and probably have Guild markings on it. Later... Next step: Detailing the mine and making the stream.
  5. Hi Jasonfly I intend to give a blow by blow account of the project with how I am doing each stage and what materials I am using, but if you want any more details then I will be happy to help if I can. Good luck with your project I look forward to seeing some pics! All the best Chris
  6. Next step was the drop ramp. I wanted this high enough to take the clockwork engine underneath and also to allow figures to stand in the wagon. It had to be sturdy enough for gaming so I made the frame out of 4mm ply. and pinned and glued it to the board. I then bulked out the support frames and started detailing it using candyfloss sticks. I painted the hill with a mixture of black emulsion and PVA glue to set a hard coat on it. The decking and chute were made from coffee stirring sticks and lollipop sticks. I want the mine to look used and slightly run down so the timbers and jointing are ragged and damaged. The timberwork will all be stained later to darken it up. Next Step - the carriages.
  7. Thanks for the encouragement. Project on! I can lay the blame for this project on Mike (Tograth). He and I were discussing ways of demoing the game to new people to get them interested and enthusiastic. An idea was to have some crews made up (balanced in Soulstone points) of just a Master and a couple of minions to keep it simple. Each person picked a crew including Mike and he would talk each person through their options and help them as it was their turn. Five of us tried it out at Mike's house and it was fun. http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26470 The next step was how to do it at venues. We decided that the 'mini' games would play well on an 18" board and then two boards could be put together to allow two players with a couple of extra minions each to play each other, while Mike helped. So I said I would start making him some boards for a Christmas/birthday present... All I had to do was find the time! Construction: The boards are 4mm ply for strengh and lightness and the hills are made from high density polystyrene to take a lot of bashing! I am consentrating on the mine board and the beam-engine pumping station board this side of Christmas and hope to get them done in time... Here's the start of the Soulstone Mine Board: I have some old Hornby OO Guage track for the 'slag' rails and some very old O Guage clockwork train track for the branch line. The idea is that the branch line train brings in coal for the pump engine and supplies, and takes the rubble away for 'hardcore'. The minetrucks can dump into the carriages or into slag heaps. Next post - The Drop Ramp
  8. At Last! Finally found some time last weekend to start building a terrain board for Malifaux. I've had the ideas brewing for about a month and construction is now underway. The four boards are 18in square and can be used individually or together...more details to follow. Here are the basic plans: I will post pics of the project as it develops and would welcome any comments or ideas! Thanks
  9. I would thoroughly recommend going. I had a great demo evening at Micheal's house on Saturday with Phil, Matt and Abbie. We are all novices at the game so Mike set out a simple objective game of get more characters within 3 inches of a central objective than anyone else and/or have characters within that piece of area terrain (basically Stake a Claim and Claim Jump). We each had a Master and two minions. Phil had my Lilith, Terror tot and Young Nephilim; Matt had Von Schill, a Friekorpsmann and the Specialist; Abbie played Rasputina, a Silent One and an Ice Gamin; Mike had Marcus and two Silurids; and I had Ramos, the Gunsmith and a Steampunk Anachnid. Mike took us through the basics of the game - which did take a bit of time - but we were soon up and going for it. Each turn the highest draw went first and either went clockwise or anticlockwise round the players. Lilith's crew and Rasputina were soon hammering it out with the young Nephilim matured up and the tot frozen away and the Ice Gamin shattered. Rasputina kept casting a biting chill until the Mature Nephilim was down to one wound, but Lilith fought back with whirling Death and took out the Silent One and nearly finished off Rasputina. On the other side of the board the Silurids raced to the centre only to face Von Schill and the Specialist. One Silurid dropped immediately and Marcus strove in to take out the Specialist - and failed. After some tough fighting the Friekorpsmann, the Specialist and Marcus had all gone to a better place - with a bit of help from my Gunsmith. Von Schill then took some potshots at my Gunsmith and wounded him severely. The remaining Silurid raced passed Von Schill to finished off the Gunsmith but failed in the attempt and was eaten by a spider and shot at close range. My Arachnid then latched onto Von Schill and Ramos Detonated him giving a couple of wounds to Von Schill. I made an Electrical Creation which I sent over to the Rasputina / Lilith melee but they scarpered before it could do any harm. The game ended with a call to dinner from Amy with Von Schill by the Objective and Lilith on the terrain. Full points to Matt and runner up to Phil! Mike led us through our characters, giving us advice on how to use the crews to the best advantage and explaining casting, melees and shooting when we needed it. He showed us how to interact with terrain and helped us to understand the stat cards and how to make the most of our hands. He probably could have wiped us all out but instead used his crew to get us into situations where we could fight and use our crews to their best advantage. We all had a great evening and Phil is going to paint his Hamelin crew (Mike gave him some extra rats), Matt and Abbie are borrowing some Neverborn crews of mine and paint them up to use them and I am going to pull my finger out and get some painting done too! Can't wait for the next game! Amy's dinner was fantastic and we all went home tired but happy. Thanks for a brilliant evening!
  10. Yep - Isabella - another desperate mercenary - but having second thoughts as she is a very delicate resin model and has lost her cigarette already. Stunning though. I would like to see how you paint her!
  11. Haven't done any painting since the middle of March as it's a bit disheartening when you can't see the details, but I have 62 figures impatiently waiting for some serious attention and terrain boards to construct, so I guess the holiday is over. Hope to be posting some more pics soon...
  12. Finally got the brushes and paints out again, so here is my first foray with new contact lenses. A proxy for a Desperate Mercenary - Bonnie-Anne Just need new lenses for the camera now!
  13. Sam (my son) has joined the afflicted. Signed up as Afterthought

  14. Congratulations on joining WAG (Wyrds Anonymous Group) for those who cannot decide whether they are Addicated or just Obsessed. Treatment can be obtained in small boxes and blister packs. No cure has been discovered but help can be found on the dedicated forums. WARNING: Highly Contagious!

  15. Fantastic! - and REALLY love the bases.
  16. Sorry about the pics - it was very late and the eyes were propped up with matchsticks so i could finish painting. I'll post some better ones later. Thanks for the comments!
  17. We'll be there Looking forward to a game and grub!
  18. I thought this would make a nice proxy for Nekima. The base is made from a large cork and the skeleton is from GW Vampire Counts Skeletons. The figure is the Freebooter Succubus.
  19. Definitely the modelling and conversions... but the models are so detailed they are a joy to paint and then when they're done you have got to get them out there and play with them. It's just Wyrd!
  20. Just kitted my sons out with crews, rules etc for their birthday (19) and wondering if there are any Henchmen or players in that area, or clubs that play Malifaux. I am in Ireland so I won't be playing them very often! Thanks
  21. Just started making a series of Supply Wagons for the factions. This one is a Paddy Wagon for the guild. Still needs the decals and some touching up but its getting there.
  22. Just put together Von Schill and his crew. Hope they turn out half as good as this! Fantastic paint job!
