  1. Very nice! Like the canals.

I've come to find apparently the cork tiles are less common in the US. The home fix-it stores don't carry them. I'd have to special order. :(

I'm not sure if it's the same thing you're looking for, but I found 30cmx30cmx5mm cork tiles for custom corkboards at Wal-mart in the office supplies section.

  2. Tried the local wine supply place, and the ones they have are the straight ones (no taper). It would seem to matter a bit what shape they are for the purposes of getting them to stand. Currently I'm using craft sticks with alligator clips attached, and standing them in a piece of floral foam (havn't started on terrain, yet, so didn't have any sheet foam). It works OK, but the position it leaves me holding them in tends to be a weak grip that causes a little shaking.

I don't have a supply of paint pots, as I've only recently gotten back into minis again after about 6 years, and about 8 since I painted last.

My local Michael's just sucks, really. Kinda small compared to most of their stores is the problem, methinks.

  3. Very cool. I doubt I'll copy your bases but, not being much of a base modeler, I'm leaning heavily toward borrowing your technique.

Have you considered gluing the green stuff stamps to something hard and flat, like maybe a wooden block? It seems it would help keep the stamp flat and provide better control.

  4. No reason you can't have a forested area terrain piece with individual trees on them being fixed, blocking cover.

I generally use smaller trees to represent and larger trees, rotted trunks, boulders and the like for actual cover.

  5. Simple pieces of cloth to form an outline can account for a lot of area terrain and take almost no storage space. Not as aesthetically pleasing, but you don't need actual tree models or water effects to create a wooded area, pond or marsh. They're generally easier to play with, as well. I've always that, with maybe a few small, freestanding, single trees for aesthetics (that I move around to allow model movement) and left solid terrain pieces for actual blocking obstacles.

  6. Never been much of a wine drinker, but my last GF was, and it seemed like they all had the round-topped corks, too.

Tried the soda caps and had problems with the glue not wanting to hold.

Now that it's mentioned, though, I do think there's a home-bottling supply store nearby. Just not one of those places that springs to my mind. Thanks!

  7. Where do people buy plain, tapered corks for mounting minis on while painting? I tried Michael's and all I found were decorative corks with rounded tops, narrow stems and writing on them.

  8. Those gears are pretty awesome, and I can easily envision them being found somewhere like Malifaux. Like Ratty, I may well have to... um... borrow(?) the idea.

I'm really struck by your trees, though. You've given a lot more care to the roots than most I've seen, and I think it really makes them stand out. Also, you've done a great job in capturing that twisted feel that I see when I think of Malifaux flora. Especially the first one.

I'm not a religious man, so I'll content myself to say good luck and get well soon. I expect and look forward to seeing all this stuff and much more completed.

  9. I'm not sure if there's more than one printing of the book with different wording, but mine says:

    (0) Leader: Target friendly Freikorps model within 6" of Von Schill activates after this model's activation ends.

Nowhere in there does it even suggest an extra activation.

    The rules specifically state:

Each model may activate only once during a turn, unless otherwise indicated by a model's ability.

Thus, if a model has already been activated, it cannot be chosen to activate again at a later time without an ability specifically giving it an extra activation. Leader gives no such ability, so cannot activate a previously activated model unless some other ability would grant an extra activation.

  10. One thing I'll say is you don't want to go with Sonnia Criid and Rasputina. They are too similar imho.

I'd have to disagree, here. Not with the statement, but with the reasoning. While I can't really comment on which crews might or might not be good for a beginner (beginner, myself), I do think using crews that are very similar in play is a positive point for demoing a game, if not for building a collection. It creates a more balanced feel and reduces game-swinging surprises for those not intimately familiar with each crews abilities.

    IMHO.
