  1. Ah. Ok, so every game I basically started out with McMourning casting Wracked With Pain and 0-Slicing the Canine Remains for 2 parts and a corpse, then walking. Generally I'd go for a few lesser activations like the Spirit linking to the Dead Rider, random Shambling and whatnot- to try get my opponents to commit models first. Whenever I had an abundance of bodyparts, I didn't have the Crows. Or when I had the Crows, I didn't have the body parts- or I was having to burn cards to do things like keep McMourning from suffering from Pacify. Hamlin was at -4 Ca when he respawned. But by that point, most of my stuff was already Insignificant. I had few models. Against Hamelin, I concentrated on trying to kill the Rat Catchers.. then once I realized what they did, the Stolen. Even McMourning was Insignificant at the end.. by then, I literally could not win. Every time I killed something, he made a new one. Constant recursion of models. I probably could've killed the only Stolen in 3" first. Against Pandora, my vague plan was to avoid Pandora herself and kill anything I didn't have to take a WP duel to target. Shikome chose the combat Leiu/Litu twin as Prey- but my screw up resulted in being Lured and eaten. McMourning walked up 5" and from then, he was under constant (and frustrating tbh) assault from Pandora. All I managed to get to grips with, was 2/3 Sorrows. The game with Kirai could have gone differently, if I had realized how much life she had to pay for to summon the Shikome. Or that she could even summon a Shikome. Absolutely came down to the wire. One of the mistakes I made here, was attacking in melee instead of using spells. Spirits. Magic. Hoorah. Game vs. Somer, I just killed stuff. Yay. I have been reading up on the other Masters. But there's a huge amount of information to digest- and even then, a lot of stuff doesn't click until you see it in action. I'm a Warmahordes player, I know I learn more from having my ass handed to me than a win. As for my list, it's pretty much all I own. I've played like 3 games before the tournament- now 7. What's listed, plus a couple Nurses, Necropunks, another Remains, Sebastian and Chihuahua. Literally been playing McMourning for like 2 weeks. I'd pick up more stuff, if I knew what I needed. Dogs and Necropunks would've been useless against Hamlin. What I needed was blast weapons. Against Pandora, I've heard Jack Daw and Hanged are the way to go. But that's a lot of points for a "maybe." As for faction jumping? Meh. Just because I want to play Dreamer, doesn't mean I will. My crew is painted, I may as well play it for at least as long as it took to paint.
  2. So I had my first Malifaux tournament today, something like game 4 with my Crew. The tournament was a 50ss pool, with 30ss games. Schemes were unique during the tournament, so no spamming Kill Protege for the whole tourney. McMourning Shikome Dead Rider Grave Spirit Canine Remains Belle, Belle 7 Stones. =30ss As I'm pretty new, I just took along the minimum points I needed. As I didn't know what I needed to sideboard against, or what is good against things... eh. Round 1 - Simmo. Hamlin vs. McMourning. - Shared Claim Jump, Stake Claim, Bodyguard I thought the game was going awesomely, when I cheated in a Red Joker to kill Hamlin. Turns out he can butcher a Stolen to keep alive. The game just went downhill from there. Simmo kept casting stuff, making my few models Insignificant. I ended up losing a war of attrition and being unable to score or attack stuff. Loss. 2/6pts I think. Round 2 - Luke R. Pandora vs. McMourning. - Shared Slaughter, Hold Out, Exterminate (Nightmares, Leiu, Liitu, Madness) From the start, I was losing. I didn't realize Leiu (or Litu, I forget) could spam Lure and it cost me my Shikome. I also kept having to blow my hand to prevent McMourning from being affected by a spells that forces a WP duel for every action/negative flips for WP- or try to stop Incite/Pacify. At one point, McMourning had to skip his activation due to having like double negative flips to WP duels. While taking 3 damage per duel loss. Finally got initiative. McMourning managed to eat two Woes and heal back up to full, reducing the amount of damage he takes. But at that point- really didn't matter. Virtually everything was dead. Loss. 2/7? Round 3 - Ash B. Kirai vs. McMourning. - Shared Claim Jump, Assassinate, Breakthrough Turn 1, Ash summons a Shikome and charges my Shikome. Awesome. I managed to cheat to keep it alive. I Mounted Combat a Night Terror over near McMourning to provide him a stepping stone. Ash changes places with a Shishin. Shishin bounces to Kirai. McMourning hops into a Forest and slings his Scalpel at a Night Terror, bouncing over to the pair of Shikome and the Terror. I blow my hand to do like 8 damage, halved to 4 due to Spirit. Ugh. Dead Rider spends the rest of the game scooting around, messing up Ash's placement with Drag Along. End of the game came down to a mad rush for Claim Jump. But his extreme mobility won out and had 1 more model than me in the zone. Boooooo. Close, close game- but still a loss. Had I known what Kirai did, I wouldn't have taken Assassinate. 2-6, I think. Round 4 - Kurgan. Somer Teeth vs. McMourning. - Contain Power, Kill Protege, Stake Claim (oops!) Turn 1, I lure his Warhog down the board- as it's my Prey and Protege. 18" is stupid. Dead Rider charges it and does a hefty blow. Warhog gets angry and moves through the Rider to swing at McMourning, I take a good chunk of health. McMourning carves up the Warhog and heals back to full. Pull a Mosquito to a Belle, who spends the rest of the game swinging at it. Literally whole game. Next turn, Shikome charges Somer and bounces. McMourning walks, hurls his Scalpel and appears beside Somer. He's all like, hi. These are shiny. Gets Somer down to like 2 wounds. Somer chugs, heals a lot. McMourning cuts him up the following turn. Kurgan kept exploding his own guys, and I kept flipping like 11+ and 10+ cards to resist. Again and again. So end of the game, I killed everything but the Mosquito. I'd have gotten 8pts, but I used Claim Jump twice. Ooooooops. 6/0 ... So- I was expecting to get tabled the whole tourney. My biggest problem was that I didn't know what my opponent's armies did, resulting in me losing. Also made a bunch of mistakes. Chose wrong schemes due to not knowing what people's stuff did. But yeah. First tournament, didn't know what to expect, roll with the punches and stuff. Just glad I didn't get the wooden spoon. lol. Winner was Victorias with Von Schill. Guy scored max points in every round. 8+8+8+8. 20 player event. ... I'm a little eh about McMourning at the moment. Knowing that top tier crews like Pandora and Hamlin exploit willpower- which is his weakness.. makes me want to buy a Dreamer crew. So, before I get to that step- let's discuss what I could've done better. From what I can tell, the top crews were Victoria, Dreamer, Pandora and Hamlin. I tried to go after stuff I don't need WP duels with Pandora, but she just kept stacking crap on McMourning and scooting around the board on her magical hoverboard. Next event is 30ss and the one after 35. Possibly fixed lists. Wanna give me some tips on lists/tactics?
  3. Sooo... next two events are 30 and 35ss. Basing it off the starter box.. Dreamer+LCB 3 Alps 2 Daydreams Copellicus Stitcher Together 8 stones =30 Dreamer+LCB 3 Alps 3 Daydreams Copellicus Stitcher Together Insidious Madness 7 stones =35 Am I on the right track?
  4. This is actually a really interesting thread for me, as a McMourning player. I have my first Malifaux tournament on Sunday and there's like 2-3 Pandora players. So long story short- I should avoid going after anything that needs WP duels, including Pandora, and take out her support units. Anything else I need to know?
  5. But.. Alpbomb. Wanna give me a run-down of a general alphastrike turn?
  6. Sooo... I'm thinking about ordering a Dreamer crew. He looks like a lot of fun. The next couple of tournaments are 30ss- but his list seems to function better at higher points. Like, you need multiple Daydreams. You need 3 Alps to Alpbomb. That's 15ss right there. Then you need things that actually do something. The best list I've seen, was 40ss. Dreamer/Chompy 3 Daydreams 3 Alps 2 Stiched Together Coppellicus Insidious Madness As I'm new to Malifaux, I don't quite understand how the Dreamer's list functions aside from alpha-striking. Summon Nightmares, eat stuff, bury them again to avoid retribution. Anyone wanna give me an idea of what a tournament caliber 30ss Dreamer list looks like? Thanks =D
  7. I play McMourning. Flitlock isn't an option. ;D However, I see myself taking the pain and healing up as always.
  8. So Pandora. I've never played against her and she's got a horrid reputation. 3 Pandora attending an 18 man event. Chances of me playing her are pretty high. Also, I'll probably try for a practice game on Friday evening. Any tips against Pandora? The list I'm playing is above.
  9. Ah... so that's the point of Belles. Just spam Lure to force discard. If I was planning on doing that, it might be worth using Bette Noir too- slit jugular with minimal cards. And that's a horrible, horrible point. Draining Souls to deny me points. =(
  10. So I've got 3 games of Malifaux under my belt now. I feel I have a decent grasp of things and am debating playing in a tourney in a couple weeks. I know I'll have both my buttcheeks handed to me, but meh. The event is 50ss, one master, 30ss games. Reason for the post- I'm trying to work out what schemes best suit the crew/situation and how to best play whatever scenario. I won't be bringing a full 50ss crew, because frankly- I don't have the models. I can definitely get 30ss done by then. McMourning Dead Rider Shikome Rotten Belle Rotten Belle Canine Remains Grave Spirit (Linked to Rider) 7ss Cache. McMourning, Dog and Shikome are done. Belles and Flesh Constructs are 80% done. Last couple models are basecoated. I might have time to paint an extra Dog and a couple of Necropunks. Also have Sebastian and another Belle assembled. Against heavy anti-magic like Sonia, it might be worth trading the pair of Belles for the Necropunks and an extra Dog. As for Schemes.. Kill Protegee - Probably my #1 scheme. Put it on the same model the Shikome sets as Prey. Pity Shikome doesn't ignore armor. Hold Out - Against crews who will be sitting back. Generally I'll be on the assault, with my two beatsticks and McMourning, who is awesome in melee. Resser schemes? Army of the Dead - I don't see this as viable. The only model that cares about corpses is McMourning, and he's chugging them like energy drinks or summoning things. Death After Death - McMourning doesn't seem to do that much summoning. You're not going to have that many corpses until mid to late game- and at that point, I've scalpel-slung my way into combat and am spending all my action points cutting things up. This One's a Keeper - 5 body parts from Masters, Henchmen and Totems. I suppose that's 3 hits and a corpse. It's managable. He does assassinate fairly well, ignoring Armor and Hard to Wound. If only he stopped healing/burning soulstones. I've got a partial list of expected masters, too. Arcanists - Marcus Arcanists - Collette Arcanists - Rasputina (x2) Outcasts - Somer Teeth Outcasts - Hamelin the Plagued Guild - Lucius Guild - Hoffman Guild - Sonnia Criid Resurrectionists - Kirai (x2) Neverborn - Pandora Anything I should look out for, or any tips for playing the doctor? =D
  11. Played against Ramos today. Lost. He's surprisingly annoying with the Spider spam. And the combined ones are harsh. o.O But a question. Claim Jump. - More models than your opponent within 3" for 2pts, twice as many for 4pts. Opponent has 1 model. I have zero. Counts as double, yes?
  12. Also, random question. My opponent was doing this during our game(s).. I'm sure it's legal, but it's total bs. McMourning shreds Von Schill. Dies, Slow to Die, burn a Soulstone for a healing flip. Kill him again. Burn another stone to stay on the board. I'm pretty sure that was the interaction. Is this correct? There's no negative wounds or anything?
  13. I need to own Nekima. Awesome, awesome model. I'd probably go with something like, Lilith, Nekima, Leiu, Litu, remaining points in Terror Tots. But I suspect the list will play a little like my McMourning crew. What about the Dreamer, is he tournament caliber? I don't want to play Zoroida, because she's obnoxious. Pandora is apparently fairly ridiculous too. Leaving Lilith and the Dreamer. Colodi looks kinda silly. I've seen a gencon tourney report with the Dreamer, that looked pretty neat. The guy was running Dreamer+LCB, 3 Alps, 3 Daydreams, Coppelicus, Insidious Madness and 2 Stitched Together. That's everything in the starter box, plus a two packs (alps, daydreams) and a Madness.
  14. So had my game. And a second, but we didn't get it finished. Opponent had Sonnia, the Henchman Merc with no spells, some Witchlings and the construct with a minigun. He got Destroy the Evidence, Hold the Line and... I forget. I rolled up Reconnoiter. Chose Hold the Line and Kill Protege. What did I learn? Turns out that Kill Protege with Shikomi is pretty solid. She has trouble getting through armor though. Shikomi is actually surprisingly fragile, too. Need to keep it safe. Skitter behind buildings and use Agile to scoot out and get a charge vector. McMourning is a monster. He must have taken about 30-35 damage over the course of the game. Didn't try to summon once. Too busy going nuts with Scalpel Slinging and such. It was tricksy trying to cast with all the anti-magic. Sonnia isn't that much of a threat to him. She can do damage, but some decent flips or burn a couple of stones and he's still good to go. Then he's back to full in seconds. So first game, Shikomi shredded the construct. Got 2pts. I got wiped out to a man, but my aggressive playstyle ment that my opponent was far back. Another 2pts. Opponent scored like 2pts total and I won. Surprising. The second game we didn't finish, but the last turn was nuts. McMourning Slings into Sonnia and a Witchling. I win the flip. Cheat in Red Joker. Flip a 12. 12 damage. Sonnia dies. I heal up and continue slashing at the Witchling. Another severe for damage. McMourning is REALLY fun to play.
  15. I see that the Belle's are going to struggle. Unfortunately, the list is all the models I own. Plus the Necropunks that just came in the mail- but they're not assembled. I can't actually use Rogue Necromancy. I don't own one, plus people are playtesting for an event. Wyrd doesn't let you proxy models that are yet to be released. Also with the V2 change to Canine Remains.. bit harder to pull off. Space out a lot. Check. Try to keep the spirit in cover. Check.
  16. So I'm finally going to get a game in with my 30ss McMourning crew tomorrow night. The crew list.. McMourning Zombie Chihuahua Shikomi Dead Rider Belle Belle Canine Remains What schemes/etc would be best to take with this list? Any general tips for playing against Sonia Criid? The only thing I can think of, is keep McMourning away from her.
  17. So I'm a Warmachine player, starting up Malifaux for a change of speed. I'm in the process of painting up a McMourning crew at 35ss... and Lilith is calling to me. Her play style seems really interesting, with the illusionary forest and teleport shenanigans. Debating picking her up as well, because Malifaux is so cheap. There's a bunch of tournaments in my area. So I'm wondering, what goes into a competitive 35ss Lilith crew? I've read the article at Pullmyfinger- but it's not quite specific enough. I don't know what mix of Nephilim is best, how many are really needed to grow up.. you get the idea. Like trying to summon stuff. As for models. I like the idea of running Lelu and Liitu. Nekima looks cool. Bit of a beast, but a little eggs/basket. Wanna show me what goes into a good 35ss crew? Thanks
  18. So what's the deal with Avatar forms? Do they cost stones or what? I know they enter the field by meeting requirements..
  19. So Wyrd's stance is no proxies. Boo. Here's a WIP shot of McMourning. The basing theme is "McMourning's Radioactive Graveyard". Left to do: Bloodstains Lichen on the rocks Possibly a bit more highlighting The goo was pretty easy. Deneb stone. Scorpion green and water. Scorpion and Badmoon. Wash heavily with Thrakka green. And... straight PVA glue over the top. Dries mostly clear, making it look goey. The white bits under the rocks will go when it dries. It's basically the same thing I'd do for Cryxian necroventing, minus the PVA. Gonna pick up a Grave Spirit and some Necropunks tomorrow.
  20. Ok. So Grave Spirit. What is Wyrd's stance on proxy models? I want to use something else in events.
  21. Man. The "Get the stick" changes suck. Between the Chihuahua needing existing tokens and the Grave Spirit not giving McMourning the armour buff, I'm not sure it's worth giving him a totem. Giving it to the Dead Rider makes sense. What's Wyrd's protocol with proxies? The model for Grave Spirit is just terrible. I might pick up something that looks more suitable.
  22. Um. V2 changes? Should I have V2 cards for all my stuff? I didn't really have a plan for the Chihuahua. He just seemed like the right totem. edit: Also, looking at Grave Spirit.. he doesn't give +2 ARM to McMourning, because he's not undead. Kinda pointless totem?
  23. My crew arrived, yay. I've started work on McMourning's Radioactive Graveyard. Craggy cork bases with tombstones. Going to paint green sludge, using paint/inks, like I do for Necroventing on Cryx stuff. PVA glue over the top makes it look slimy. Turns out the next event is 35ss - No sideboard, single list only. McMourning Zombie Chihuahua Canine Remains Shikome Dead Rider 2x Rotten Belle Cache of 6 29ss at the moment, add 6 to come up to 35. Being a total noob to the system, what do I need to add to cover my bases? A pair of Necropunks for some speed/objective taking/etc?
  24. I'm in the same boat. I quit just after Rising Powers came out. I'd only played a handful of games. ... and now I'm back too. Just basecoated my McMourning crew.
