  8. The Summer Malifaux Escalation League at Art of War will be a 4 month long ongoing league in which everyone will begin with a small scrap crew and through the course of the league will grow it into a full brawl crew. For this league, players will need to declare a faction to play for the entire league. You will be allowed to hire crews permitted within your chosen faction. Due to some issues that have risen in other leagues, I have been asked to keep League play to Thursday evenings as the “official” night for the league. Each week you may only play the same person for the league scoring once. You may play as many games as you want on Thursday, with only your two best scores counting. The Monthly Sunday tournaments (beginning in June) will also be an official League night, allowing those participating to earn a better score for that week. Scoring will be based on the rankings of the opponents. The schedule for the league will be: May 5th – League begins at 25pts Scrap May 26th - 30 pts Scrap June 16th – 35pts Scrap July 7th – 40pts Scrap July 28th - 45 pts Brawl August 18th - 50 pts Brawl Sept. 1st - League ends Entry: $5 Models whose stats have be released, but have not been released by Wyrd Games will be permitted through the use of Proxies. Any proxy should be explained prior to the start of the game to prevent confusion. Once the model is available, proxies will no longer be permitted. This allows those wishing to include models from Rising Powers that haven't been released yet. Similar to past leagues, I will award additional Soul Stones for players who wish to donate terrain pieces to the store. For every 27 square inches (3 3x3s, 1 3x9, 1 4.5x6, etc...), you will be awarded 1ss to be added to your Master's Cache once the your crew has been purchased. No player will be awarded more than 5ss through the course of the league and your master may not begin play with more than the maximum number of soulstones they are allowed. Once earned, you will access to those Soul Stones for the remainder of the league (just like we did in the previous leagues). If there are any questions, please post them here as someone else may have the same question you do and may benefit from seeing the answer to your question.

  14. Reminder! This Thursday kicks off the start of our Casual Winter League at Art of War. Choose a faction - 35ss crews will duel it out over the next 8 weeks.
  15. Well, timing is everything and our tournament just happened to fall on the same weekend as the store's Army-in-a-Weekend event. As a result, we had only 4 players with the energy to duke it out in Art of War's first Malifuax tournament. After 3 rounds and a little cheating of fate, congrats to the following for their performance: 1st Place: Aaron (Lobostele), Arcanists 2nd Place: Nick, Arcanists 3rd Place: Louis, Guild I am not sure if Nick or Louis frequent these boards to include their screen names, but speak up if you do so credit can be given. Art of War will be hosting a Winter League beginning on Jan 13th! More details, please visit this post.
  16. Apparently I have two accounts....I never knew! Anyways, the above message was from me and all of the information above is correct. Sorry for any confusion.

  19. It is not too late to join the Malifaux League at Art of War in Cincinnati, OH. This is a quasi-team league where the factions duel it out among each other for control of Malifuax. We currently have a dozen people playing in the league. The league will go through November with a giant brawl to end things the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. League Rules are listed below: Malifaux League Rules There are two parts of the League: Campaign Games and League Play League Play These are any games that you play against other people who are participating in the Malifaux League. Track your victory points at the end of the game for each player, and reporting to the employee running the store at the time. League Play games may be played with any Master from within your chosen faction. Campaign Games These are ‘moves’ that you and the other players in your faction plan together, and then play games accordingly. Each faction is assigned 5 territories. One territory is your main territory, and cannot be lost. For instance, for the Guild, this location is the Governor’s Mansion. The other 4 territories can be attacked by the other factions. Each faction gets to make one “move” per week. As a team, decide which territory from the opposing faction(s) you would like to attack. Each of the 4 main factions turn in their “orders”. The Outcasts and handled a little differently, and will be discussed below. Factions being attacked decide who is going to defend their territory, and then games are played. If the Defending player loses, then the territory is ceded to the attacking player. The attacking faction retains that territory until someone else defeats them in that territory and wins it. The Outcast faction is handled a bit differently. The Outcasts have a total of 12 Territories, 3 territories for each of the Masters (Viktorias, Leveticus, Hamelin, and Som’er). All of these territories may be lost. Each of these Masters do have a main territory, but unlike the 4 factions, this main territory can be lost. If an Outcast Master loses their main territory, they cannot attack any other territory until they have won back their main territory. Outcast main territories cannot be attacked by the other factions until both of the minor territories have been taken away. Outcasts may make campaign moves themselves to recover their lands, but they may also accept “Contracts” from the other four factions. The factions place bids, using Campaign Points (more on this later). The Outcasts then choose to accept these contracts if they wish, and then play the game. For instance, the Guild could offer a contract to the Outcasts for 4 Campaign Points, to go attack the Arcanists’ Research Facility. If the Outcasts take the contract, then the Guild must give them the Campaign points, regardless of the outcome of the game. If the Outcasts win that Campaign Game, then the Outcasts earn the territory. During the next round of Campaign Moves, the Outcasts could choose whether to cede the territory to the Guild. They could choose to hold onto the territory, though doing so would obviously anger their Guild contractors! Factions could also hire the Outcasts to defend their own territories. For Campaign Games only, each player should select a single Master. They should be the only player using that Master during Campaign Games, and they cannot play with more than one Master. Henchmen are allowed and may lead crews, they just don't have territories. Territories So why attack each other’s territories? Well, that’s the whole point of Malifaux! Everyone wants control of Malifaux. The Guild wants everything under the thumb of their law. The Arcanists want to be free from the Guild. The Resurrectionists want to be the only living things in existence, surrounded only by their undead minions. And the Neverborn just want everybody else gone so they can go back to the way things used to be. So in order to that, they must chase each other out of Malifaux! Campaign Moves, as described above, are used to attack each other’s territories. When you win a campaign move game as the attacker, you take control of that territory. If you win as a defender, you retain control of your territory, and nothing happens. Territories are all designated as specific locations in Malifaux, as outlined in the Encounter section of Rising Powers. So how exactly do you win the territory? The Attacking player must complete their strategy, first and foremost. If both players complete their Strategy, then the Attacking player must either have more total VP at the end of the game, or the Defending player’s pieces must be all defeated. The Defending player wins the game if he can prevent the Attacker from completing their strategy, or if they can complete their own strategy AND have more VPs at the end of the game. 3-Way fights or Brawls are possible if more than one player attacks or defends a territory. If two players from different factions both choose to attack the same territory of a third faction, then a 3-Way fight would ensue. Only one faction can come out victorious and either win the territory or succeed at defending it. Also, an attacking faction may 'Up the Ante' and try to escalate a Campaign match into a 'Brawl' with a two-on-two game, where each player controls their own Master and crew. In this instance, the Attacking players must ‘bet’ one of their other territories, and (if the Defender agrees) the Defenders must also add a second territory, in addition to the initial one being attacked, to the pool. The game is played in only the initial attacking location, but if the Attackers win, they earn both Territories. If the Defenders win, then they gain the one territory that the Attackers offered up. The Defenders have to agree to this. If they don't, the 'Brawl' doesn't happen and a normal match is played. In addition, since each territory directly correlates to one of the locations from the Encounters section of the book, then each territory has special terrain features that go along with it. So, when players are setting up their game, they skip the Location flip of the Encounter rules, but they still flip for the special terrain feature (for instance, the Theater location has possibilities of Drink Up!, Growing Fire, Pool of Aether, etc.) The Defending player always chooses where to set the terrain feature and this is done after deployment zones are chosen. This is to give the Defender a slight edge, and represent them fighting on their home turf. Territories may also be ceded to another faction. The faction giving up that territory must lose 2 Campaign Points to take this action. This is the primary way Outcasts can help the other factions. The Outcasts take a contract to attack another faction, and win the territory. Then, the following week, the Outcasts cede the faction to the contractors. Ceding can also be used if two factions each have taken one of the other’s territories. The two factions could basically cede their territory back to the original faction (each losing 2 Campaign Points in the process). So Who is Winning? We developed a unique point scheme for this League. Hopefully it ends up working the way we think it will. There are separate Campaign Points (CPs) and Victory Points (VPs). Campaign Points are only for an individual faction. Victory points are for individual players. Campaign Points are awarded on a weekly basis. For our League, the week ends at 7pm on Thursdays, and the new week begins at 7:30, with the first thing being the faction teams deciding their Campaign Move for that week. Each faction gets Campaign Points for the territories they control. 5 Points are awarded per territory. In addition, factions get double points for controlling their own territories. So, for instance, at the beginning of week 1, the Guild would get a total of 40 points, 10 points for each of their 4 Territories. If during their campaign moves that week, they acquire a new territory from winning against one of the other factions, then they would get a total of 45 Campaign Points for that week. Once again, Outcasts are slightly different. Since they have 12 territories total, theirs only count for 1 or 2 points each, but they do get double points for holding them. Since they can lose their main territories, these count for points as well. So they can get 32 points total per week. This puts them at a disadvantage to start with, but by accepting contracts from the main factions, they can easily gain more CPs and be even with the other factions. Victory Points are determined in each game according to the normal Malifaux playing rules. Completing a Strategy gets you 4 VPs as usual, and Schemes are worth what the book indicates for each of them. So, typical games would have a max possible VP of 8 points. Players will earn Victory Points throughout the League that will be tracked on a per player basis. Any number of games may be played per week, but only the top 2 VP scores will be added to that player’s League Score that week. This is to provide balance between people who can only play one night a week versus people who are there every evening. At the end of the League, a player will generate 1 Campaign Point for their faction for every 5 Victory Points that they have accumulated. At the end of the League, the faction with the most Campaign Points will be the winning faction. Within that faction, the player with the most VPs will be the individual winner for the league. This way, the individual winner is based on not just winning League Play games throughout the week, but is also dependent on helping your faction succeed.
  20. Here's a couple pics of the proxy I made for Ryle. I included Sonnia in the image for scale. He's based on a primed Dragon Forge 50mm base. I will probably wait until Jan now before finishing the base. Might as well wait for the real Ryle. Sorry on the pic quality...I am limited to only my cell phone...
  21. Sorry - I need to check here more often...Yeah, no worries on the clean-up, but you probably already knew that by this point. :)

  22. Complete rules for the league can be found here. Week 2 is wrapping up. We'll try to get more pics up as well as the week 2 update. ...No Fate but what we make...
