  1. Alright- I am frustrated.

I have lost three consecutive games to the Victorias, and I need some advice on how to bring them down.

I'll admit that I overextended Seamus in a couple of the games, allowing them to charge in and kill him. Otherwise, I am able to seperate them pretty well, and can usually kill at least one. At 25 stones, I am running Seamus, Sybelle, 2 Belles, Copycat Killer, and Bete Noire.

The crew seems to run well and has a lot of synergy, but they just don't have enough damage output to meet the Vickies and their outcast retinue head on. Lady Hammerstrike (with all of her glorious underboob) is a tough nut to crack, and there is so much magic that Bete is never around for long. Plus, the Cb and Def stats on the Vickies are so high that I have a hard time attacking and defending with my comparatively awful stats. Copycat killer can only land a hand cannon round on a 10+ flip on average, and I have to cheat half of my hand just to avoid getting nailed by crazy boosted swords every turn.

What can I adjust in my crew in order to meet this Outcast threat head on? I can't focus on my Strategies when my whole crew keeps getting wiped out by turn four.

  2. I really can't say. It might be the glare. It might be too close in color to the jacket. It just seems out of place. It doesn't take away from the overall appearance of the mini, but my eyes keep gravitating to it for some reason.

Thanks. Perhaps I should have chosen a less reddish wood tone, considering the proximity to the red coat and blood. I'll keep that in mind with future projects- color coordination can be difficult at times.

  3. If you have a decent hand, cast (1)Distract. Instant slow, your CA versus their WP.

If you don't have a good hand, lure the Gunslinger into somewhere stupid and far away.

Use Madame Sybelle's Shriek. Its ranged, deals damage, and forces them into a WP duel.

Use Seamus' (1)The Face of Death.

If they're taking a ranged heavy crew, section Hans off away from the rest of the pack and kill him quickly via mass companion with Sybelle and her Belles. Once he's within 2" of madame Sybelle, if you have any Belles left over, hit him with an Undress or distract, or both. And then have Madame Sybelle flurry her Riding Crop and hit him with Rough Trade, or hit him with yor fan and stack Fester.

Rough trade forces him to beat a WP duel to act again, making life a wee tad easier.

Fester reduces he Wk/cg by -1/-1, cumulative, and lasting the rest of the game. If you're unable to take him out that turn but manage to reduce his wk to 3 inches or less, next turn hit him with Seamus' (1) Undead Psychosis, this will force him to pass with Hans for the entire turn, allowing you to finish the dirty work.

The Convict is relatively easy to ice, using the same strategy. Against the Convict, feel free to use Seamus' .50 Flintlock against him and the hit a Mistaken Identity and do it again with his totem.

Feel free to read my tactica on Seamus, scroll down to the general tactics for all sorts of cute things to do.

Or, just ignore them and get your strategy / schemes done as fast as humanly possible.

Thanks. This was helpful. So was your Seamus tactica.

I think my biggest problem was flipping the "Rubble" event so early in the game (end of turn one) which occurred after my opponent had his shooty models in place and I was stuck behind some hard terrain with no way to get out. I tried to shoot my shambling belles forward to take out Hans, but it just wasn't fast enough. With what you guys told me (and a little more luck with events in the future) I should be in good shape (esp when I add Bette to the mix).

  4. I don't understand how two models could take out your entire crew while in hard cover the whole time. With lure, the most they should get is 1-2 rounds of shooting. In my opinion, you're eith exaggerating, or you spent the whole game running in circles.

My problem was this- turn two, we drew the "Rubble" event, halving all of my movement. Seamus actually got killed by the VIctorias, but because he was pinned behind hard cover and couldnt escape effectively.

  5. Alright- I just finished a game vs. the Victorias where my basic Seamus (him and his belles) list got literally shot to hell by a convict gunslinger and Hans. I used terrain to the best of my advantage (I had hard cover almost the entire time), and yet I got shot to living hell. Lost the game without making any real contact. Granted, part of the problem was that I didn't know Hans could make undead explode by just looking at them, but my low Def stats had me hamstrung.

What else can I do to keep my Ressers from getting blown to pieces? I know- run Nico- but what else?

  6. Wow, those pants are crazy. Excellent work. The gun looks... IDK, "wrong" for lack of a better word, but I can't say why. Looking forward to your Belles.

Can you extrapolate on the gun? It could be the lighting (there is a kind of odd glare on it) or it just might be "off." In either case, I would like to know what I could do to make it better. Feel free to constructively criticize.

  7. Did you give Seamus a Snidely Whiplash mustache?? Kudos. Well done, sir.

I'll be replacing my Nurse needles with rods as well. One is misshapen and the other broke clean off. And really ... the longer the better, especially for the massive syringe (which I actually prefer to the other model, though I seem to be in the minority).

I like the big-syringe nurse better as well- that model was actually one of them that drew me into the faction. My other nurse didn't have a syringe either.

And yes, I gave him a snidely whiplash mustache. After I gave him the mustache and settled on the paint scheme, I was afraid me might start looking like a circus ringmaster, but I think he came out alright.

@ Doc Warlock- What did you use for the details on that base? Printouts or painting? The Dr. Pepper can just looks too perfect- if that is freehand, you are a god.

  8. Greetings, all!

As I am going to be working on my new Ressurectionist force for a while, I figured I would consolidate all of my pics under one roof instead of spreading them out in a thousand threads.

As of 19 July 2011, I am just going to update the OP, as opposed to tagging onto the end of the thread, so everything is in one place- Enjoy. I took new pictures of everything too.

    Thanks for checking everybody out!

  9. I too would love to know how you did the Stockings!

Anyone else think the big syringe Nurse looks like Bettie Page!

Thanks! I was going for the Bettie Page look, considering the hair style. I think the winter completion is more becoming than the studio paint scheme.

For the stockings on "Bettie," I added a little bit of P3 Umbral Umber to my Reaper Tanned Flesh base to do the top of the stocking, and used a thinned out mixture of P3 Bastion Gray and acrylic retarder to add the coloration for the stocking over the leg (which I shaded previously as I would any other skin tone).

On the other nurse, I just hatched the fishnets with an 18/0 liner brush and some P3 Thamar Black. I will definitely use the same technique with my Collette crew (once all the relevant stuff for it releases and I pick them up).

  10. The warm flesh tones and white 'whites' are winner on these. You have really enlivened these minis.

Care to share your recipe for the whites and flesh tones?

    Thanks, everybody!

Painting whites has always been a challenge conssidering that too much shading can make it look gray or dirty instead of "white." For these minis I primarily used Privateer P3 paints. I did a basecoat of Menoth Highlight on the dresses, and then shaded my midtones with Trollblood Highlight and picked out the deepest shadows with Bastion Gray. I then went back through with my base coat color and cleaned up my highlighted surfaces and finished off by picking out my highest highlights with Morrow White.

My flesh tones are from the Reaper Tan Flesh triad pack, with P3 Umbral Umber added for deep shadows and P3 Khardic Flesh used as an accent in the cheeks and whatnot wo "pinken" up the flesh and make it look a little more lively (and hence contrast with my other less-living ladies in my Seamus list, which I am still waiting on at my LGS).

  11. Here is another angle of the big-syringe nurse, so you can see the detail in her stockings. The shadow on her face looks kind of weird in this picture though- she doesn't look that much like a drag queen in person.

  12. Greetings, all! I am new to the Malifaux community, and I thought I would post pics of my first Malifaux minis! I am an experienced painter (mostly with Privateer Press lately), and I am excited to get my hands on more Malifaux stuff (so much variety!).

Anyway, here they are- the naughty nurses-

Looking at the pics now, I realize that I could have made some of the lines between the high contrast areas a little crisper, but overall I am pleased. I replaced their syringes with wire and brass rod for stability, and sculpted the bases to roughly resemble the "Victorian" inserts. I'm particularly pleased with the way the bubbles in the big syringe and the stockings look- Good practice for the Colette crew that I hope to pick up some time in the near future.

Anyway, let me know what you think, any questions, etc.

  13. Nice- thanks. I'm not in love with the punk zombie minis, but I might pick them up someday anyway. I've done enough research (and seen enough of the rules and gameplay) at this point to be reasonably sure that I am going to like the game, so I am going to pick up about 45pts starting off. Even if I am not in love with the game, I am primarily a painter and modeler, and I have high hopes for these minis.

Here are my initial purchases (to occur later this week via the war store)

    -Seamus Box

    -Rules Books and Fate Deck

    -Bette Noir

    -Nurses

    -2 packs of canine corpses

    -Copycat Killer

-extra pack of Belles (for summoning)

My theoretical starting 25 SS crew would be...

    Seamus

    Copycat Killer

    Bette Noir

    Nurse

    2X Rotten Belles

Since the consensus seems to be that belles and Seamus do not have enough damage output on their own, Bette and a Nurse could help boost my damage output. I worry about a limited number of corpses generated by my crew, but hopefully my opponents will provide those (my local metagame, all of whom are starting along with me, are all Guild and Outcast so far, and non-constructs at that).

Anyway, let me know what you guys think. Is that a good starting crew, or should I just run Belle spam until I get a little more experience?

  14. Wow, thanks for the response guys! I think I am going to like being a part of this gaming community!

Alright, based on your recommendations, I will pick up the Seamus box, some Canine Remains, the Copycat Killer, A Nurse (just to test her out), and perhaps Bette Noir.

A couple of quick questions- do I have to run the Madame in order to run the Belles? Also- how many Canine Remains would you recommend?

  15. Greetings, Wyrd World!

I am just getting into Malifaux, and I was immediately drawn to the Ressurectionists. It was literally last night that I committed to start playing, and I wanted some help before I started buying up all sorts of miniatures that I may not use.

For the record: I am completely unfamiliar with the rules, and I have scanned the other posts in regards to list building, but I wanted to get some advice from the old veterans.

I think that I am going to start with the Redchapel crew box (Shamus and crew), and I am wondering where to go from there to get to a nice 25-35 point range. Everyone seems to be all aflutter about the canine corpses, so I was thinking about picking up some of those as well. Additionally, I might start with a Copycat Killer, as it seems to work with Shamus. Since the consensus seems to be that Bette Noir is an amazing damage-dealer, I thought about picking her up as well.

Finally, the consensus seems to be that the Nurses are overpriced and underpowered, but I really like their miniatures, so I would like to include at least one.

Help me out- I don't want to waste money on models that are going to gather dust, but I also want to put together a solid crew that will help me learn the game (and school my opponents at my LGS who are starting along with me).
