Alright- the final "official" models of my Leveticus crew- The Hollow Waifs and Desolation Engine

Basing used similar methods to earlier models, just with some Mordheim bits to liven up the Desolation Engine's base (so it looks kind of like he just burst out of a tavern wall or something).

Anyway, thanks everyone for all the compliments. You flatter me.

I am going to post the "best of" on the original post so everything is more consolidated.

One more final shot of the whole family...

I still have four more SPAs and Ryle to paint, but I am probably moving on to other projects for now (as painting necrotic flesh is getting tiresome for the moment). I'll keep you posted.

Absolutely amazing work! There is a line between a painted mini and artwork, you crossed over to artwork miles back! Simply amazing!

Have you painted the Hollow Waifs or Desolation Engine yet? When there done please post pictures of them also.

The minis are finished, but I am putting the final touches on the bases. Pict to follow in the next couple days.

Leveticus is a much nicer sculpt than the photo on his card betrays- but be forewarned, Alyce is not. Her head is TINY, and she is overall very lanky and bizarrely proportioned.

Guardian was a basecoat of Reaper Scorched Metal, a wash/shading of Brown Ink and PP Cryx Bane Base, then highlighted with successive layers of Scorched Metal and Reaper Tarnished Brass. Same for the Watcher.

And the big sister helmet even comes off? Man, this is an awesome conversion. Big kudos on concept and execution (and it is still steampunk!)

How in the world did you do that with your Guardian??? Sand down the shield? Even so, your free-hand for doing letters is downright astounding. I tried doing some small letters on a recent figure and they didn't come out looking ANYWHERE near as nice. Wow.

Thanks, man. To get the guild crest off, I used a flat file and sandpaper. I had to remove and then resculpt a couple of the rivets, as they got in the way.

I know I said my waifs would be next, but I got motivated to do some other stuff first... Behold, my Guardian and Watcher.

For my eyes, I use a Reaper 10/0 brush (the cheaper one) for most of the details like the whites and corneas, and I use a Reaper 30/0 for the eyelashes. Make sure you mix in a little acrylic retarder (available at any art supply store), because the paint tends to dry on the bristles quickly when the brushes are that small. Plus, it gives you more time to work with the paint, or brush it off if you screw up.

In response to the source lighting critiques on the lamp, the pictures do make them a little wonky- the lamp is definitely the brightest element on the model. However, I did go a little strong on Levi's coat, and just didn't feel like fixing it. The light does draw the eye away a bit, but I feel like the lightness of his skin and face detail helps balance that a bit (esp. in contrast with the base).

Good eye though, guys. That was my own personal critique on this model as well. I guess it shows more strongly than I thought.

Yeah, sorry the pics of her are a little fuzzy. I have yet to master keeping extended bits of the minis in focus. Anybody who knows how, please share.

So, I decided to throw down my hand with Leveticus. Here is my progress thus far on my basic crew box...

The models are all stock, except for Alyce's gun arm. I straightened her aim a bit, and gave her a nice, big, steampunky targeting device. The zombie on Levi's base and the arm on Alyce's are from the Mantic Zombies unit (with some modifications), All of the rubble is just crap from my various bits boxes, the bricks are little plaster casts (in the case of the walls, stacked), and the wood is all strip styrene textured with a file and frayed with a hobby knife.

Top tier stuff- very impressive (especially Perdita)

That is a very beautifully painted model. But I have to be that Guy and say there is something off:

And actually the only thing that's off is the crow on the sign, it seems like it draws away from the model as it blocks some of backside of the model. It is still a very good astetic piece don't get me wrong, but I think maybe a smaller crow or none at all would be a good choice.

But don't listen to me it looks very good as it is, I just think it may cover to much of the beautiful mini behind it.

Overall I would give it an A+++, great job and I agree you gave the model plenty of justice.

Thanks for the honest critique, and while I certainly understand your point, the addition of the crow where he was is quite intentional. The part of the model that the crow is covering is one of the only open 'fields' on the miniature that doesn't contain much detail. As opposed to having this large, light-colored horse flank diverting the eye from the most striking parts of the sculpt, I feel like the dark detail adds flavor as well as channeling your immediate attention elsewhere.

That is incredible, what an awesome job! Do you a time estimate? How long it took to do? That's amazing how much difference the black and white backgrounds make! Love the black backdrop pics more, please say you are entering this in a paint comp somewhere!

I feel the same way about the black backgrounds, but the extra light reflected from the white background brings out more of the details.

The actual painting process took about three days- maybe 12 hours total. The base took an evening to build- maybe three hours.

I just finished my Hooded Rider and I wanted to share. I think this is one of the nicest models in the Wyrd line, so I wanted to do it justice with some nice custom basing.

I tried to follow the color scheme from the Rising Powers artwork as closely as possible. The base is all custom built w/ some various bits from GW and old Confrontation stuff. The bricks and paving stones are cast resin, the soil is Sculptamold with dirt and sand sprinkled in it (then painted), and the roots are, well, roots. I scavenged them from a little banzai tree I picked up a while ago, killed, and dried the remains. The trunk is actually part of a stick, glued to the roots, with the bark sculpted on.

This is one of my favorite minis ever, and it was a blast to paint. A great, detailed sculpt, highly recommended to anyone (Neverborn player or not...).

Thanks, guys! I picked up a Guardian the other day for said pro- and anti- Levi shenanigans.

Can a Guardian cast Protect on Leveticus and then suffer the Wds that Leveticus suffers for spells like Desolation or Necrotic Unmaking? Granted, it is probably going to cost you a Guardian a little earlier in most games, but the wording of the "suffers # Wds" makes me think this is kosher.

Okay, I know I am probably going to get berated for asking this, as I am pretty sure it has been clarified elsewhere and I just couldn't find it, but I want to get official confirmation-

Let's say that Leveticus dies, as he is wont to do. Lets say you have two Hollow Waifs in play when this happens. At end phase, Leveticus comes back, and you sacrifice all Hollow Waifs. At end close phase, both Hollow Waifs come back.

Am I correct in this assessment?

Hence, both Hollow Waifs will pretty much always come back unless Leveticus and both Waifs are killed or sacrificed before Closing Phase?

If someone could even point me in the right direction, I would be appreciative.

Again, just an 18/0 brush and a magnifying glass. For that little detail work, I mix in some acrylic retarder to give me a little more working time (in case I screw up, I can effectively "erase" with a moist brush).

Basically, just an 18/0 liner brush and a lighted magnifying glass.
