  1. Mike,

hit me up on google chat or something and I can help you.  It's mostly pretty easy but for the one strange piece that, as Ratty says, goes behind her right should on the machine itself.  Once you see the spot you recognize the shape immediately.

The only other part which was minorly questionable is the hands, but they go together pretty easily.

The censor ball hand, the finger with the chain is on the outside...

The book hand uses the middle finger to secure the other two...  and the index finger has the extra hole for the thumb to slide into.

The only trouble I kinda had was I didn't shave down Hannah's feet and it was a tight fit into the boot.

  2. Hey guys,

finally got around to watching it... love the new format.  If you could figure out a workable angle for the camera, it might be easier to tell what is what... that said, with the narration it is probably overkill.  I would still love crew shots when you go over the beginning of the game!

To the game itself... it devolved into a mash up in the middle pretty quick, what happened to MaliDave's "I'm gonna use some of the Viks shooting?"  ;)

I do find the Viks very shooty when you go outside of their starter box.  In this game we saw Hans and Vanessa, both great examples, but I've moved away from Ronin in favor of Convict Gunslingers and Friekorps Trappers.   Though against The Dreamer shooting can be particular ineffective because of the ease of Healing the crew has.

Couple observations that I can't be sure how they were played...

    - Vanessa's heal is a (2) action.  I think turns 3 and 4 she first healed and then attacked and then the next time healed while slow.  Again, I wasn't there but her heal, while very powerful, does eat up her AP.  (a good reason for the SoC or an Oathkeeper)

    - DId you put Slow on the Dreamer when LCB got killed?

Overall, a nice watch, still love the before and after commentary, you guys should podcast a bit, I'd listen to you two ramble on about this game, no problem!

  3. Instead of getting a new box with updated sculpts that I can use to complement my existing Freikorps with, I'm now "forced" to buy the very same box I already own with identical models just so I can get the new totem. That, in my mind, is a really bad design.

    This times 1mil.

I can get over NE LCB being redone and my metal beauty being a paper weight, the model is unbelievably awesome.

I don't think the Friekorps "basics" should have been just moved to plastics.... Wyrd screwed the pooch, and us VS players, on this one.

  4. I agree that it's a bit of a disappointment that the Freikorps are mostly just ports of their metal versions.  I'm glad to see VS himself get a new sculpt as his metal one is the worst miniature in the box but even the new one isn't that great IMHO.  It's difficult to justify a buy when the only thing really needed from the box is the trunk.

This. A crew box for the totem. They did right by switching up the Master model, but why isn't he ripping off his shirt? alt VS better be.

One last complaint, the box should be VS, his trunk, Hannah and three friekorpsmen. Then they should done a support pack, a la Nephilim, with trapper, specialist and librarian.... But it's water under the bridge now. They should do "open Betas" for crew box and minion boxes!

  5. (note I play in PeregrineFalco's Meta)

We went around and around on this and due to "fun" and "playability" we had to come up with a workaround.

We like our 1" walls which can force 50mm models to see them as impassable if you play the straight "failure" rule.

So what we've done is allow for models to complete multiple "Climbing" walk/charge actions that would end with "floating models" between AP expenditure, but not between activations...

We don't mark "how high a model has climbed" because we don't allow floating models.

It does make high structures, which we play with a lot in our Meta, daunting possibilities of sniping glory, but oh well, that's part of the terrain phase and we all believe in the mantra, the more terrain the more fun...  or, terrain should effect the game as much as strats and schemes do.

go go New England Henchmen, you band of rapscallions!

  6. February 5-8 in Warwick, Rhode Island....

TempleCon is a long running, well run Convention in Warwick, RI.  It covers a whole host of "geek culture" attractions, from live performance, cosplay, video and table top gaming.   Wanna know more, click here  http://templecon.org/15/

But what is important is two things.  First, Malifaux will have a strong presence there.  MJungledog, InquisitorWall and myself have teamed up to offer a host of Malifaux and Wyrd oriented events...  and with so much to see and do at the Con, we are concentrating on keeping the events quicker and spread through out the weekend.

The highlight will be a Gaining Grounds tournament on Saturday afternoon (02/07/15) into the evening!

We are working hard to secure our space and the event schedule is currently up in the air, this thread will be updated as we firm up the weekend....

But, the second and most important thing is securing lodging.  The Crown Plaza, where the convention is being held, sold out is rooms almost instantaneously.  Fear not, the Holiday Inn Express, which is about 2 minutes from the Plaza and has 24 shuttle service to and from, is taking reservation.  So if you think you want to come to Warwick, RI, for the Convention and join in the Malifaux goodness, then go book yourself a room!  Check out; http://templecon.org/15/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=89&Itemid=111%C2'> for reservation information!

I know I'll be there,  I know a lot of other Malifaux players will be there...  will you?

  7. CaptainCon was one of those events where it was what we made of it.  The New England area, with help from a pair of adopted New Yorkers, all showed up with great attitudes and a love of a common game.  The end result was two extremely smoothly run events in which a lot of people got to showcase those attitudes and share the love of the game.

For a first go-around both the Con was amazing as were my games all weekend long.  I could not recommend to people enough to attend next year, where we'll continue to grow the event and make the Malifaux scene even stronger!

And it was really cool to be "in the middle" of the ballroom opposed to shoved into a corner.

A shout out to @Truaskew and @mperry1701 for all the amazing terrain they lent, same to Will @Urbanlasercraft for his continual support of our Malifaux functions and continual access to his great terrain!

Thanks again to Wyrd for their generous support.  Between their donations to the Con's reward/prize system and the hard work of the team of (amazing, hardworking, awesome, generous) Henchmen Malifaux was brought to the forefront, put on display and did not disappoint.

Now, to try and figure out how to replicate the whole shebang at TempleCon this winter....

  8. So the Alien models are amazing.  As are the Predators and the objective stuff.

But the Colonials just look, wrong...  between silly weapons and really bad right arms, I am very disappointed.  Agreed with above that not only will most people want to play one of the Xenos versus good old humans, then the sculpts for the humans are by far the weakest.

    Too bad.

That said, I'll probably not play the game, but I will snag a few of the minis just to own... the Berserkers Pred is just awesome!

  9. RE: Ophelia, my experience has been once you settle out things like; how her rules actual work, the obvious errata fixes to her rules, wrangle out M2e terrain rules/amount and just see her on the table a bit, she is just another Master.

However, until the above gets sorted, I can see how players would be frustrated by her, just as they are by Perdita and other shoot-tastic Masters.....

The above is a reason I am a fan of cautious, yet continuous monitoring of all models and what "they can do," because it takes a long time to sort out what models can be capable of. I always use the example of the Blood Bowl and the BBRC. that process gave us a very, very balanced yet multi-style game to play... It just took years to get there!

  10.

Since now you are considering errata more strongly, I've felt lately that McMourning's Expunge with the Abra Cadaver trigger is a bit over the top, massive damage + summoned model at full health that happens to have 13 Wd and no need for any suit to get the summon is starting to seem like too much. Don't know if anybody else has raised this flag.

    This.

While I understand things can become a slippery slope in the concept of as each "top" upgrade/ability/attack gets a power downgrade, I do feel that there are still a slight few Wave 1 "really's?" floating around, and that happens to be one of them. (Woke up with a Hand was another)

On to the actual document, most stuff is how we had house ruled it (Dumb Luck for instance) or interpreted a rule....  which is always nice.

I do particularly like the specific ruling that includes a "universal concept" mention.  Just clears up multiple things in one easy read without having to hunt.  That said, you can run into the reverse where some players aren't aware of these universal rulings and continue to muck things up.  But I would still support the current method, as most TOs/Henchmen/thatrulesguy are OCD enough to be aware of them.

    Thanks!

  11. Don't overlook that the hodgepodge is also a Df 6, armor, HtK significant model.

The SAS is just that good. He is a 10 stone beat stick that moves, hits and tanks really well. It is the best Swiss Army knife 10 stone model I am aware of.

Honestly, with the balance in M2e and the fact Levi mostly uses his crew versus working with them, it's hard to go too wrong with any selection....

  12. Line in the Sand is actually a good take in Flank or Corner deployment, IMO.  The centerline gets much longer so it gets easier.

I almost never take Take Prisoner myself, though that has more to do with my Master/Crew selections...  I have done it with Dreamer a few times when I left my lovely Outcasts!

Inq Wall, if  you like Distract, Cursed Object is just an easier version of it!

Vendetta is great if you have access to a shootier model and an obey Master....  Hamelin and my Convict Gunslinger generally get the 3 VPs each time.

  13. I, too, play the rotation of Viks, Levi, Tara, Hamelin and VS.  All competitively, too.

Von Schill competes with Leveticus for Turf War.  This is particularly true in Close or Corner deployment because his crew is overall tougher than Levi (funny to actual type that) and moves better as a whole.

Squatter's rights is a consideration.  It's usually scheme pool dependent vs the Viks, Hamelin or him.

I favor him against Neverborn, Ressers and Guild.

For Schemes, if I see Murder Protege I usually move away from Levi because of A&D...  However, I will not play VS if Distract/Cursed Object are available.  Too few, elite models that.  If I see lots of Marker placement Schemes I gravity towards VS.   There are so many schemes that it's hard to list... but these above are usual the ones I keep in the front of my mind.

A side note, IMO the two most important models in your VS crew are the Trunk and the Specialist.  Though I act like it's either VS himself, or often Hannah/Librarian combination, in the end those two models are extremely key to many of the "counters" that I like above.   The Specialist is a game winner by himself if the opponent decides to drop Breakthrough or Power Ritual Markers because he can remove that at range, as long as you can get an (unimpeded) Freikorpman or a (relocating) Trapper near to those Markers.  Anecdotal: I won a game once because my Gremlin opponent did the whole Reckless/Scheme Marker dash for a turn 5 Breakthrough, only to have my Trunk drive right between them and get hit with a very low Crow (?) triggering Wildfire, removing all 3 VPs for the player....

back OT, Reckoning is finally a consideration, but I agree that the Viks do it really, really well.  I might consider VS in Reckoning against Gremlins, though, because my local player makes great use of the Pigapult against my poor Viks....

Stake a Claim is Tara all day and night...

and I haven't got anyone to succeed in Recon regularly.  I am hoping Daw with so much board control can really handle it.   Outcasts just don't have a solid summoner to keep up with other Faction's best Recon Masters....

So, I agree that VS is not my go to Master in many games.  That said, I never feel like I am helpless with him and love playing him.  Try the SAS, too.  That thing offers up a lot of what the crew is missing, a giant beater that launches itself reckless into the fray... only to come out victorious when his friends are backing him up with heals...

  14. Two other things.

First, Hannah.  She is one of my two favorite Henchwoman in the game right now.  Rusty being the other.  Both are amazing!

Two, Kirai is a hard match up for VS, no doubt.  Most of their stuff ignores Armor and are Incorporeal, both unattractive things to face iwth Friekorps.  And I prefer VS against most Resser masters, too.  But being bad against one other Master doesn't mean the crew is poor overall....

  15. VS crews definitely struggle against massed Incorporeal.  They are a bunch of dudes with guns and knives in a world of monsters...

I agree with most of what has been said here in defense of VS.  What is missing, and can not be overlooked, is that VS (and his crew) have numerous hard counters to most other's "tricks."  I find the Friekorps crew has the most success when they are defeating what the enemy does while slowing achieving their own goals.

For instance....  (going from particularly general to more specific cases)

    - are a melee crew that relies on killing the enemy?  Friekorps has access to a ridiculous amount of healing in a "base" crew as well as almost universal armor...

    - run a shooting crew to do damage?  Same as above but has theme'd access to (strong) shooting on every model.  And I'll mention the enhanced HtK stopping sniper one-shots here as well...

    - like to summon off Corpse or Scrap markers?  Friekorps Specialist remove them

    - make use of Black blood or other Pulse damage?  The suit ignores it.

    - make use of Blasts to hand out significant amounts of damage?  Again, the suit ignores it.

    - attack WP?  VS buffs and the starting stats are above average to start

    - hand out slow/paralysis?  Move or Burn (and ignore the damage, btw)

    - you running Schemes?  We burn them up?

    - have low WP, well, we can cause Horror duels

    - Can't Lure Hannah who is a great roadblock piece to center a crew around.

    - Do you utilize Poison or Burning to great effect?  Yeah, Friekorps can remove those.

    - Have a giant "beater" model that cornerstones your attack (except A&D) or hands out amazing synergies to the rest of your crew?  Friekorps bury those.

I am sure I am missing some, but my point is this.   A "basic" VS crew brings a solid hard counter to whatever the opponent is doing, the secret is identifying it and putting it to good use (and protecting it) in each match up.  People say that VS is a "starter friendly" crew, to which I agree, the rules are straight forward and "what they do" is very easy to comprehend.  But I think really mastering VS is just like any other Master, you have to know the crew, how it works and how it deals with the opponent.

And I don't know about your VS, but mine does so much killing that I have moved to taking Tally Sheet with him as his third upgrade... (The Shirt and Engage as the others)
