  1. I think it's way, way too early to add another faction ...

I definitely agree with this. While I'm not at all opposed to additional factions in the future, it's a bit premature at this point in Malifaux's fledgling existence.

  2. Awwww, thats kinda disappointing about the Graverobber errata.

Apparently Res was a little off the hook pumping out corpse counters. I don't have any personal experience with it (never had a chance to play pre-errata), but I can see how it would be. Nicodem and McM would be a gong show given a surplus of counters.

  3. Like the Graverobbers ability, if I use this does the model automatically gain the tokens even if they're none on the board?

    Another important piece of errata.

    Search Action (p.45)

Remove the (all) Search Action and replace with: “(all)

Scavenge: Scavengers Only. The model gains 1 Scrap Counter.”

In effect, they've removed the Graverobber ability to Search for corpse counters. Whereas before a Graverobber could "dig" for corpses, that was too overpowering (so I'm told). Several models have the ability to manufacture corpse counters, and anyone with Graverobber can collect corpses counters, but no longer are Graverobbers able to Search and create counters.
  4. With soft cover it only provides a -flip to attack and the Ht: 5 is only important for determining if a model will benefit from the soft cover or not. The only way LoS is blocked is if an effect or terrain piece states any type of "Blocking" effect.

Good post, Unlisted. One niggle is that "Blocking" is no longer a valid game term according to the most recent errata (pg. 5):

    Blocking Terrain (p.84)

    Delete Blocking Terrain Characteristic

They've since replaced it with "Obscuring":

    Obscuring (p.85)

    Add new terrain characteristic:Obscuring: Obscuring

terrain grants models in the area soft cover. Obscuring

terrain blocks a model's LoS if there is more that 3” of

obscuring terrain between it and the target. Models can

draw LoS into and through obscuring area terrain if the

distance is less than 3”. Multiple seperate pieces of

obscuring terrain do not stack to block LoS

Same difference ultimately, at least with regard to The Fog. The description of the Spell does not mention Obscuring ... though maybe it should.
  5. They are cool and I had them sitting on the sideline for proxies but as Gav has pointed out they are 54mm scale so waaay too big.

    Still nice models tho...

Absolutely. Is there a game system attached to them? I didn't even think to look ...

Hm... Well... I can say I agree with you on the model: too cheerful for my tastes. However, I've found that a few simple transfigurations can make him a little more inspiring of the less-than-mocking reactions. For instance, my friend is an excellent painter/sculpt manipulator, and regretfully I don't have a picture of his Seamus figure, but he made a few fairly simple changes which I thought suited him quite well. He added a big scar running from forehead to jaw, with a sculpy eyepatch, and kind of "toned down" his wardrobe, making the hat smaller by cutting off a section from the top, the gun sleeker, and replaced the "bag o' tools" with a fairly wicked razor a la Sweeny Todd. Coupled with a darker, gorier paint job, and a base complete with bleeding corpse, Seamus became a face of death true to his reputation. Maybe I'll ask if he has a picture handy...

Please do! I'd be very interested to see it. Since my Seamus will be gathering dust on a shelf, unloved and unpainted, there'll be no rush to get him table ready; plenty of time to consider different ways to convert him.

Not sure I'd add an eyepatch, but the rest sounds interesting! :)

A proxy would be nice, obviously I'd prefer to convert in the interest of being tournament legal. I'm just not that talented when it comes to modeling, the thought doesn't fill me with confidence. But, I suppose, if I'm gonna mutilate someone ... it might as well be Seamus.

  6. Would it totally upset the fabric of the game to have two factions sharing a suit? I realize each suit is tied to a particular faction, or moreso a particular aspect of a specific faction. Each represents a source of magic with a Sphere of Influence: "Control, Deception, Defense, Speed" for Masks (for instance). So long as a new faction identifies with a certain suit thematically, and is different enough compared to the pre-existing faction, I could see there being at least two factions per suit.

  7. I'm fairly certain Thwart only applies to strategies, not schemes, so it wouldn't be a reason to avoid it.

Oh snap, does Thwart apply to Strategies? My read-fu is weak (original post edited).

As it stands, there's no downside to failing a Scheme. They represent potential VPs, zero risk. Lucidicide is correct; selecting the legal maximum appears to be the obvious, optimal approach. There's no reason NOT to.

Is this by design? Or is there something I've failed to consider?

  8. Two quick things:

    1. Schemes. When would a player NOT take the maximum number of Schemes permitted by the size of the game (2 or 3)? I mean, besides avoiding Thwart? (( EDIT: I realize now that Thwart applies to Strats and not Schemes, thanks Lucidicide. )) So ... one should always take max Schemes, unannounced or otherwise. Right?

    2. Multiple Masters in a Brawl. Generally, are the 10 additional Soulstones considered a worthwhile trade-off compared to a second Master with their own cache of stones? I look at a guy like Leveticus who can only join with Ramos, or Som'er Teeth who can only side with Zoraida (are there others I have missed?). If the player doesn't own and therefore cannot field the legal counterpart, will they be at a major disadvantage during a Brawl facing two enemy Masters? I simply wonder what the general consensus is.

    Cheers!

  9. I highly recommend Killjoy, - and if you're buying necropunks, then they work as a brilliant delivery engine for him. I mainly use them against people who have models capable of easily 1shotting SPAs. Hard to Kill means that you need to invest a fair bit into breaking them. Main reason for Killjoy though is that he gives you a solid use for masks, then you have every suit covered. Tomes/Ravens on Levi, Rams on Alyce and Masks on Killjoy. Then you just need to flesh a list out with room for soulstones dependant upon how much resistance you think you're going to get from the opposing master, and then some kind of low-cost guys with slow to die =)

I appreciate the recommendation! Killjoy is definitely shortlisted. I had my eye on him even before I took an interest in Leveticus. With some speedy Necropunks in play, he's an ideal way to sew confusion and panic near enemy lines while the rest of my shambling horde progresses (in the case of my Res Masters).

I only wish Leveticus had more options with regard to Brawls. Beyond Ramos, there's not a lot of variety when you move into high ss play. I'd thought that maybe Nico and his Embrace Death ability would somehow circumvent Leve's Pariah ... but no dice.

  10. Might want to correct that, Its you can hire models (not faction specific) that have the mercenary trait. These models will be a +1 soulstone unless the have alternate rules otherwise. (this includes hamelin Ht 1 include)

I simply assumed Outcast models were the only ones with the mercenary trait. I could very well be wrong, I'm not 100% familiar with all the stat cards.

Are there non-Outcast models labeled as mercenary? If not, what exactly did I state incorrectly? I'm not being defensive, I actually want to know! The last thing I want is to misinform someone or make a mistake while building a crew.

    Cheers.

  11. There are a number of exceptions, Leveticus can't hire most of the other outcasts but can have any undead or construct, zoraida can hire any model with wp4 or less, etc. Most factions have at least one master or other model that can hire (or summon) out of faction in some way.

    Too true. Thanks tenabrae!

  12. As an aspiring Leveticus player, this thread is delicious. I haven't had a chance to sit down and read it all the way through front to back, but I intend to.

Even so, I'm facing a bit of a time crunch, scheduled to submit an order for a bunch of minis in just a few hours (not all Malifaux, but some). I'm hoping someone wise in the ways of Leveticus can provide me with the abridged version as I strive to make an informed purchase:

As a budding Leveticus player, what models do I absolutely need?

    1. Leveticus (duh)

    2. Hollow Waifs

    3. Rusty Alyce?

Is there anything else? I have access to a big pile of Resurrectionist models, tons of Undead to choose from. I guess Steampunk Abominations will be go-to once they're eventually released. So many Constructs to choose from, so little time.

If I could get away with just Leve, Waifs and Alyce, great. Suggestions?

P.S. I figure this is somewhat on topic as it has to do with optimal Leveticus crew building (albiet from a noob perspective). Certainly not worthy of an entirely separate thread.

  13. Oh hey, The Sweeney mini is nice. Replace his razor with a gun, add a satchel to his other hand, somehow get a top hot on there ... done deal. I make it sound easy on paper. It's likely a conversion well beyond my current capabilities.

25mm base? I assume he's a little on the small side?

Holy crap Chucklemonkey, those Smog sculpts are awesome. Tim Burton's frontal lobe in epoxy. The Ripper model is certainly cool, maybe a tad too feral for Seamus but a wicked piece otherwise (it would definitely justify his Terrifying).

  14. When hiring outside of your faction (assuming you're not Outcast), you can hire only Outcast models with the "Mercenary" attribute for +1 ss cost. Outcast crews can only hire Outcasts, but are not restricted to Mercs. You can play with any model within your own faction obviously, with the exception of some Totems that otherwise need to be attached to a specific Master and certain summoned models that again are Master dependent.

Generally, you could not hire Arcanist models for a Guild crew ... though Hamelin does present an exception in that he's a Merc who can be hired by anyone, and in turn has the ability to hire Ht1 models from other factions.
