  1. Could be.

In almost every game system I find myself involved in, I gravitate toward the undead. I've played more zombie-centric armies than I can remember. Almost without fail, game developers tend to put too large an onus on the ability to create and/or recycle troops. They balance against it, often in a heavy-handed fashion that ultimately undermines competitiveness.

I can't say I blame them. On paper, the thought of Player A pooping out new units while Player B struggles with thinning numbers is a dire consideration ... but it rarely plays out that way. With so many variables to consider, I don't envy them the task, striking the right balance between thematic undead-ish-ness and the basic, fundamental utility that wins games.

  2. Hey, i just placed an order last weekend at the site Fading memory linked, but have had no emails from them yet regarding it, i am just wondering if anyone knows if this is normal, or how long they take to ship items usually?

I ordered on Sunday, received a Paypal confirmation but nothing directly from the manufacturer. They're a pretty small operation, so I'm not surprised. I'll update the thread when I receive my counters.

  3. C) even with this ability it hardly puts Nicodem, which to be fair is really the only Resser master who can effectively use the resources Rafkin Provides, in the top tier of Masters, but it does make him vastly more competitive, and actually makes it possible for at least one Resser to actually reliably achieve any of the Resser specific Schemes.

I admit, the statement was made in a vacuum. It rings like a RAW versus RAI debate just waiting to happen. That said, Rafkin definitely helps with Nico's standing in the dread tier system. I'm not a fan of HAVING to include models in order to fix a perceived imbalance (see: Snowstorm), but I takes what I can gets.

So many shenanigans and aNico dropping in April. Good times, good times.

All we need now is more dog and zombie sculpts.

  4. 1 Dog picks up all the Corpse counters and Discards them to give them to Nicodem. (+6 BP for Rafkin)

This is the only part of the plan that stinks of cheese, to me. It's absolutely legal, but I wouldn't be surprised to see errata indicating that a corpse counter needs to be "removed from the game" or something similar in order to trigger Preserve Bodies.

    But until then ...

  5. Convict Gunslinger

Hard to argue, but I also really like Night Terrors.

I don't like the sculpts so much though I dig the artwork in Rising Powers. Super fast, easy to hide, hard to kill, great in pairs with (0) movement shenanigans, give me a mask an I hobble you. THREE STONES.

My only beef: the Dreamer has access to them.

  6. I would put the onus less on "Dreamer Grief" and more on "Book 2 Grief". Kirai, Hamelin, Dreamer, Collette, they all have the reputation of being more than a little bent. The only faction that didn't benefit from the Book 2 power shift is Guild (though Hoffman is fun and cool, he doesn't rank). The majority of Book 2 masters overshadow most of their Book 1 counterparts in terms of overall utility, speed, lethality and value per soulstone (minion-wise).

Disclaimer: This is my opinion and only my opinion.

But meh. I don't want to turn this into "Another One of Those Threads". You either decide to play Chompy in all his glory or you don't. Some opponents will give you grief, some will enjoy the challenge.

  7. Arcanists have their fair share of cheap minions, but you can't really get away with "take 1-3 of these in most of your lists and you'll be fine." Arcanist crews in general are something you really need to develop a "feel" for, and one of the things that makes that so tricky is that you don't really have a cheap base to work off of, if you don't have a clue where to start.

    Point taken!

I always struggle to qualify the oddness of the Arcanist faction. As a Henchman, I'm often asked to explain the factions; how they play, their theme, etc. I tend to waffle when it comes to the Arcanists. Speaking purely from a meta game perspective (as opposed to fluff), they don't have a shtick, a cohesive theme that ties the crews together or informs how they are meant to play - nothing that's immediately obvious, at least. That alone can make them a bit daunting, I suppose.

Even the Outcasts have "versatility" as a lynchpin, which is the only logical way to explain their nonsense. *smug*

  8. Terraclips?

Yeah. A buddy of mine has a set of Terraclips streets. The counters/tokens/markers are quite nice.

I just placed an Advanced Deployment order for a the Victorian set, 10 body part counters and three blast markers. After sleeping on it, I opted for the wood. It suits Malifaux, looks stylish and ultimately has better contrast than the acrylic stuff. Easier to read and identify.

  9. Oh nice, I've seen these wooden tokens in batreps. Very stylish, though I'd almost prefer them in acrylic (nice and green, for my Rezzers).

EDIT: Oh wait. There's a treasure trove of acrylics under "Acrylics", oddly enough. YAY!

    Thanks for the link!
