  1. Hmm. All of the M2E Outcast crew boxes and models I've purchased have been good: The included cards are obviously yellow and very consistent. Only the Generalist Upgrade Deck has been a big departure from what I've seen thus far.

Could you post comparison pics? It would be interesting to see.

Yeah, you bet. I was actually going to include one with my previous post, but I couldn't figure out how to swing it on my phone.

I took this pic under the brightest light possible, which washes out the color somewhat and makes the difference LESS noticeable. So this is your best case scenario. Under normal or dim lighting, however, the difference between the two colors is even more pronounced.

  2. Recently purchased a Generalist Upgrade Deck and, upon opening it, I find myself a bit disappointed. The colors of the cards (red for Guild, etc.) are quite a bit different compared to the colors found on the stat cards and upgrades that come packaged with the models.

    Is this normal?

It is especially noticeable on the Outcast cards (my current faction). Whereas the Guild cards a bit darker than normal, it's not that drastic. The Outcast cards, on the other hand, are a sickly shade of yellow that borders on green. They are much harder to ignore.

It's a minor gripe, I'll be the first to admit it ... but I still consider it an unfortunate flaw.

Has anyone else noticed this, or am I a special brand of OCD?

  3. Thanks for the response! Good to have a baseline price to work with.

Truth is, I totally forgot you can search completed auctions on eBay. :P

For anyone interested in the models, I'm giving my local players first dibs. Seems appropriate, and maybe I save some $$$ on shipping. I'll be posting on Facebook tomorrow. If there are no takers after a week or so, I'll be back here looking to sell.

    Again, thanks for the help!

  4. How about we add a Green Joker that, when drawn, wins the game for you 8-0. It's just random and that's how it is. Sound good? No? Then you must have a limit on how much effect a random thing should have. For some people the limit is lower than it apparently is for you. This shouldn't be a huge revelation, really.

Exactly. Everything else is quite moot. I feel the current RJ injects too much randomness into an already very random game. I don't mind that is can trump a negative flip--as well it should--but the extra damage is too much, the potential to swing a game on pure luck is too great. That's all there is to it (at least from where I stand).

  5. Big minion hit little minion -> Big minion lands a good hit -> makes a :+fate flip -> flips Black Joker -> Little minion lives

    = Balanced

Life versus death. In one instance, a model is obliterated and removed from the table, possibly turning the game on a dime. In the other instance, nothing happens (effectively).

    = not balanced

Sure, maybe you needed that model to die to win the game. The BJ screwed you. But, more often than not, losing a model is far worse than failing to kill a model.

    I voted yes.

... but as expected, those wanting a revision are in the minority. No surprise there. :)

  6. I'm wondering if the greater majority are saying "No, this is fine."

Probably. Though I fall firmly on the side of believing that severe + moderate/severe is simply too big a swing--and it has nothing to do with my love of HtW Ressurectionists--I don't believe it will ever change. I've always thought the RJ was OTT. Y'know. Back "before it was cool".

    That's right. I'm a joker hipster.

It's a core mechanic. It's clear that the designers want swings of this magnitude to exist. Bad Things Happen, and all that. I'm happy to toss in my two bits whenever the topic arises, just as I do whenever someone suggests that leaders be announced prior to hiring crews (something I strongly support, and have for many years), but I always assume I'm in the minority when I do.

And *I* think the greatest imbalance in game play right now is in Strats/Schemes and model costing. Not that the game is unplayable or anything like it. But if there was not this forum, and you simply asked me what I was looking at, that's what I'd say. Jokers wouldn't even be on my first page.

I agree with this entire statement. Schemes especially need work, and current model costing is ... not ... good. Simply adjusting stone costs would make a large number of models viable again, without needing to tweak stats, and there are definitely models that need to cost more.

Both issues would appear in my top 5, jokers wouldn't even make top 20.

  7. RJ as severe + weak, I could get behind, though. I would say that if that change were made, I would want it to be that way in all circumstances. I do not want to have the jokers doing different things depending on how many of what kind of twist they have. That's too complex.

Indeed, that was my intention. Change it across the board, not just in the case of a negative flip, etc.

However, I'm still fine with having the RJ count as just severe. The fact that it can be any suit, counts as a 14 and trumps a negative flip, that alone makes it quite beneficial and special. True, on top of being the mirror image on the negative side of things, the BJ can also reduce damage inflicted to zero ... but the black joker SHOULD be slightly more "powerful" than the red. Black trumps red, after all, and I don't believe the jokers need to be perfectly symmetrical (from a design standpoint).

  8. While very few models are truly useless, many are simply outclassed by similar/cheaper/outright better models, or are otherwise too niche to hire without first knowing my opponent's choice of leader. While I realize this is not a priority for the designers, it remains my single biggest gripe about the game, as it currently stands.
