  1. No such thing as too much Seamus! I really like the muddy bases. Sybelle is by far my favorite of your models. I like the two-color corset, and her wounds look like they are weeping pus. Wonderful! Jim
  2. Also, here's the diorama (and sole entry for that category) for the "Summer Showdown" in Wyrd's latest painting contest. As it was the only entry in it's category, it took first place (and, technically, last place) in that category:
  3. Thanks for the kind words, all! My style is definitely different, and it's actually gotten more and more stylized and extreme over the years. It doesn't always suit everyone's taste, but it does stand out. IMNSHO, it looks particularly marvelous when playing at a table-top distance. Everything can look quite harsh up close, but from a reasonable distance, the hyper-highlights really pop and let you see more detail at a distance than you would be able to otherwise see. Glad folks like the limited palette. As someone who usually paints large armies, I've always tried to use a limited palette in order to create a sense of coherence without needing for everyone to wear a standard uniform. Re: tutorials, there's not much I could say. I (obviously) use black primer, and generally pick one color (a little darker than what I want the main color to be) to use per area, and then add white to each successive layer, ending with pure white when possible. I don't mix a lot of colors, and keep good notes of all my recipes when I do. One exception to this is the pale green. I'm pretty sure that it's GW's Camo Green, green ink, and then blended from camo green through rotting flesh to white (I'd have to check at home to be certain). I'm looking forward to working on some more Malifaux minis, but will likely be suidetracked with updating my Warhammer armies for 8th edition for a bit. I do, however, have plans for expanding my Vik and Seamus crews, and adding the Dreamer to the mix when the new book comes out. Jim
  4. Got some new Malifaux stuff painted up that I thought I'd share. First off, I added a Copycat Killer and a Convict Gunslinger to my Seamus crew, along with a corpse counter and a couple of "Shafted" markers for the Crooked Men. Next up for Seamus I have a trio of Crooked Men and some more Corpse Counters. I also finished up the 25 SS version of my second crew, the Viktorias. I'm particularly proud of the bases on these - I'm planning on doing a small display base for them with a waterfall, rocks, and a stream. Viktoria Sword Mistress Viktoria Bounty Hunter This is an Iron Kingdoms model from Privateer Press that I'm using as a Convict Gunslinger: And the obligatory 3 Ronin My next crew will be The Dreamer - I'm still trying to figure out the color palette, but I've settled on a suitably "Nightmarish" basing scheme. It might be a bit before I work on more Malifaux, though - I still have to update one of my Warhammer armies for 8th edition. Jim
  5. For skirmish-level games like Malifaux, I'm a big fan of the oldie-but-goodie chessex hard plastic case: http://www.chessex.com/figure%20boxes/Figure_Storage_Boxes.htm For my bigger armies, I've always used Sabol. I'm a fan of the pick-and-pluck foam for customization on the fly. Jim
  6. I searched but couldn't find anything on this. I'm working on assembling my Crooked Men, and realized that the sledgehammer doesn't fit the model. Namely, the hands on the hammer are too widely spaced by far for the wrist-stumps on the model. Normally I don't mind a bit of tweaking, but this seems a far bit off (a good 2 or 3 mm). Given the issue, I can't imagine it just being a bad cast. How have other folks dealt with this issue? Much obliged, Jim
  7. Not sure if this has been posted before, but a great little western/zombie horror/comedy film: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vHU_38NET8]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vHU_38NET8[/ame] It's available on Netflix for instant viewing, as well. Fun stuff! Jim
  8. Also, Run through is a push and ignores disengaging strikes, while charging does not. Lots of good reasons to still use run through. Jim
  9. Gotcha - the official-but-not-yet-fancy errata. Honestly the change seems a reasonable one. I'm working on a Viktoria crew, and got my first game in with her the other day. To say they were potent would be a gross understatement. I imagine with one run through and the pushes from the trigger that they'll still be plenty mobile. Jim
  10. Scratch that - found it in the no-yet-official errata:
  11. Am I missing something? What changes are you speaking of? Thanks, Jim
  12. Wonderful color scheme. I'm a huge fan of limited palettes, as they really add to the cohesiveness of a crew (or army) without being forced in to a "uniform" look. The colors have chosen and the basing create a stark, clinical look. I can imagine a set of glaring lights above them, and the smell of disinfectant and blood in the air. You've captured the morgue look wonderfully! Jim
  13. I absolutely love what you've done with both crews - lots of nice details on both crews. I'd love to see some close-ups! Jim
  14. Simply stunning! The water effects are top notch, and the overall effect is beautiful. A few minor questions/suggestions: The rusted metal looks good, but I'm not certain that it is realistic for everything to be coated in a uniform layer of rust. I'd suggest adding some more metallic highlights, so that you can see where the has worn away in places. Also, do you find this set-up a bit open for your games? I'm used to more vertical terrain breaking up line of sight. Incredible work! Jim
  15. Perfect! The look suits him well. The blood on the knees is likewise nice. You've gored him up nicely without going over the top. Brutal! Jim
  16. Beautiful! Your painting style is very smooth and well blended. You've done a nice job of making the details of the minis stand out with that final, sharp highlighting layer. Strange, I never noticed before that Francisco is wearing a ruffled tuxedo shirt - classy! Looking forward to seeing more. Jim
  17. Stunning brushwork! I love that you've carried a consistent, subdued color-scheme throughout your models. The layered blood effects come across beautifully. I've seen plenty of "non metallic metals" before, but this is the first time I can recall someone doing a glossy wet effect with flat paint before. Wonderful and innovative! Jim
  18. Absolutely stunning. Epic. Wonderful. Can't wiat to see it painted. However, there is one major fault... The terrain is in the UK, and I'm in the USA. This means my chances of playing on this board anytime in the near future are pretty slim. I don't like that. Any way you could give a description of the Hirst Art Molds you used? Jim
  19. I start with a mixture of GW's rotten flesh + camo green, hit it with a green wash, then more camo+rotten. I the highlight with successive layers of rotten flesh with more and more white mixed in. The end result is so:
  20. I agree - the glowing runes on the cherub are great! Fantastic-looking crew. Jim
  21. Great to see you on the boards! As I've said before, I really like the combination of purple and blue. Jim
  22. Stunning. These minis have it all. Original, coherent colorscheme. great blending. Beautiful freehand. Interesting, evocative basing scheme. Outstanding work! Jim
  23. Justice is blind ... and has no fashion sense! Unfortunately, whenever I hear "Lady J" I think of the women's camping accessory. Hopefully Malifaux will eventually overcome that image. Jim
