  1. Here's a quick update. I really need to pull my finger out and get my Resurrectionists finished - but Red Dead Redemption (Xbox) is kinda getting in the way! Anyway, not far off finishing McMourning now. He's got some natty stripey trousers on the go and you can see the effect I'm aiming for with the face. Still a bit of blending and detailing to do there but I think it should draw the eye and look suitably sinister.
  2. Ah yes of course. I've always dismissed them as I don't particularly like the sculpts (I think it's the shoes). However the tray bearing one could definitely work as Harley from the recent Arkham Asylum game. Hmmm. Food for thought.
  3. Heh. Interesting. The Belle sculpts don't really lend themselves unfortunately.
  4. Here's my take on McMourning, in progress: You may spot a clear reference to a certain comedic villain. I just couldn't get over how closely the sculpt reminded me of the nightmarish Dave McKean rendition of Mr J in the Batman Arkham Asylum graphic novel.
  5. Heh. We're still finding blobs of dried paint on walls and bookcases from when a friend did exactly the same with one of my paints during a painting session!
  6. What I do when using GW style paint pots is to just use my brush to pick up a couple of drops. I mostly use Vallejo paints though which have a dropper bottle and allows you to deposit a small amount as needed on the palette. I then have a small plastic dropper/pipette thing which I picked up from Muji which I use to drop in water to the required dilution.
  7. I've got some Kerr & King dockside and Celtic bases for my Resurrectionist Crew which look like they'll fit very nicely - particularly with some resin water added to the dockside ones. There's a pic of them in preparation on my blog
  8. Cool stuff. I've been wondering about a paint scheme for my Sorrows as I'm not a fan of the bright green. The purple-blue works well, I like it
  9. They look great. Also loving the red stripey stockings on Sword Vik and the freehand flower pattern. If I was being critical I'd say the faces could do with a little attention here and there. Faces are the focal point and really draw the eye. But it's only a small nitpick on a nicely painted crew
  10. Really nice paintjobs with a great sense of fun. Good stuff
  11. Have to agree with the comments so far. The purple, blue and green hues really distinguish these minis. Great job.
  12. I mostly just use water also. Blending by using very thin layers to build up shading/highlighting, or glazing. Occasionally I'll add a spot of flow improver, particularly for fine detail work such as lining or freehanding. I've also played around a bit with a magic mix of matt medium and flow improver for washes. Results came out fairly well but my painting style has shifted more in the direction of the thinned blends/glazes technique. That said, the Ozpainters link Macgowan posted has given me pause for thought. I do find myself constantly having to re-stir my paint well to keep the paint evenly suspended so perhaps I will re-visit the matt medium. Another interesting medium people haven't mentioned here is PVA glue. It's possible to replicate the properties of the (lovely) GW washes by mixing a bit of PVA in with the water and paint. Seems to work pretty well in my limited experience.
  13. No need to be gentle. Lovely job
  14. Awesome. I envy people with the dedication to finish up their armies like that to a consistently high standard. Great work.
  15. I've recently obtained some gothic scenery from Fantascene and plan on doing a gothic graveyard / halloween themed terrain set with pumpkin patches, etc. Figured that would fit ok. I do like the idea of getting some Western style buildings though. Maniple, your stuff is excellent
  16. I wonder that also. I just saw a press release on Tabletop Gaming News and I thought I'd pop over and take a look a the other April releases. The hyperlink just goes to the Wyrd frontpage and there's no mention of them there. Nowhere obvious in the forums either - eg the announcements forum. Is there anywhere that has the April release previews all collected?

    Hello

Thanks for the welcome Just got back from watching my first game being played and really enjoyed it. Can't wait to get working on my Resurrectionists and Neverborn (once I've got my Salute London painting compo entry out of the way) and getting them on the table.
  18. Ooh very nice, both minis. In answer to the original question I'd have to say I initially thought they looked like cutthroat razors. But looking again, the handles look a bit thick and the blades are maybe a bit too curved?

    Hello

Hello all. New member here. Based in London and keen to get up to speed with Malifaux. I have a couple of starter sets (Resurrectionist and Neverborn) and I'm looking forward to getting them all painted up. I play many games including 40K, Flames of War, Infinity, and love to paint also. Until recently I was probably more of a modeller than a wargamer but that's changed in recent years. Anyway, hi. Oh here's my recently started wargame/miniatures blog: Max Von Deadlock's Miniature Madness Pop by and leave a comment
  20. I've taken to using 3mm foamed PVC for my terrain bases. Really easy to work with as it can be cut with scalpel blades and can be filed to smooth edges, etc. Also solid enough to provide a really sturdy foundation.
