  1. from what I've heard... you incite/pacify one of your units, who then willingly fails. Pandora then uses Fading Memory, which pushes her 4" in any direction. As that's a move action, any sorrows linked to her will snap to her. You cast it again on another of her units, and gets another 4". You keep doing that until you get near the opponent's figures, where you can then start using incite/pacify on them, causing them to lose wounds each time they fail (plus more for each sorrow around her). I think that's basically how it works, although I'm probably not exactly right. :/
  2. I'll let my friend know about the gremlins, see if he'll go for the guild, I hear they are pretty good for starters. That and Seamus. I do like Zoriada, so maybe I'll go for her first, pick up Pandora's crew second, and then mix and match. That's the beauty of the starters, if I get all three neverborns, I'll (in theory) not need to buy any figures a while.
  3. I haven't even managed to start 40k (50 guardsmen and a leman russ) and I've shelved it for Malifaux!
  4. I always found that I paint better on metal figures, however I believe it's more psychological. "this figure cost me so much, if I slip up...." Plastics however, would be great for scenery, tokens, maybe even base inserts (or at least resin), which means lower prices.
  5. I'm looking at Pandora's Crew as my first set, however I'm worried that if she is a bit hard to beat, that the other two people will get sick of playing and just either stop, or I'll end up buying *another* crew and keeping Pandora to gather dust. Is she that difficult to deal with? So far my opponents are looking at Rasputina and Sommer's crews. I guess this sounds a little daft, but I've been on the receiving end of a player who "played to win" rather then for fun, and every game I lost. It got to the point where I dreaded playing games with him.
  6. I like the lady death look. Been ages since I saw that comic!
  7. Thank you! Really liked the book too. Bought it in a charity shop, mainly for my partner, then started reading. It ticked all the William Gibson boxes and more! It's just a shame that I'm not into tattoos (and especially not on my face/near my eyes with pointy things)
  8. After the easter holiday (and after revising for my exam/getting the report of a project done) I'll take the pdf to the uni printing dept, and hopefully get it printed out and laminated. If I make a few copies, then they can be handed out in games.
  9. I'll have to get this printed out at Uni and laminated too. Excellent work!
  10. There's so much out there so far for Malifaux (the different factions and crews), that it will be some time before I start looking at a figure and going "oh if only that could be recruited into my crew!", so no worries! I do need to try and make a reference sheet unless someone else has already made one, so that I can speed up gameplay. I hate it when me and my partner sit around Pandemic, and then have to reference the manual because of some silly thing or another. Also, do you know if counters will be available later on? Like, say the Galeforce 9 ones for Warmachine and such? And thank you for the welcome! I like how active the community is on here

    Heya!

Hi, I'm Ritual, a guy from the UK who's finally got sick of what's on offer game-wise and turned to the alternative. I've been trying to find a decent miniatures game for a while, not only with decent rules, but one that other people would be interested in, and finally managed to settle on Malifaux. I've shown it to a couple of people so far, one of which then signed up to this forum, and the other is hopefully not far behind. I had decided originally to buy a figure to paint (rusty Alyce) then ended up walking off with the rulebook too, which I have to admit is rather nice. The fluff works well, the rules seem pretty concise, and once they are understood it can be played purely from the stat cards (with the odd check back). Nicer than other game systems that require you to carry codexes or supplement books to keep referring to. I've not decided on a crew yet, I do like the fluff regarding Viktoria, not to mention Pandora and her scary collection of freaks and woes, but from lurking in the forums, Pandora and the other Neverborns seem either more difficult to start with, and then later on, a little overpowering? I'm trying to find a nice, easy but easily expanded crew instead, so might drift to the guild. The nice thing is, dipping into two crews/factions isn't really bank-breaking either, so I could end up with two crews easily. Is there going to be rules or allowances to have minions from other factions, where they are counted as "fallen"? Like, a death marshal who has fallen from grace, and now is an outcast, a witchling stalker who managed to escape the bonds and has joined the arcanists, a woe that has realised that without humanity they won't exist, so they are trying to stop their former masters, etc. Anyway, hope to see you all around the forums!
