  1. Unbury

    Some effects will unbury a model. This is usually

    Described in the action that initially buried the model.

    When this happens, place the model back into play as

    described in the unburying effect.

    Emphasis on the underlined part, Tara's ability should be able to unbury any model. The phrase you quoted only states that in most cases the model unburies due to the same ability but this doesn't always need to be the case. After all, Echoes of the Void would be pretty useless if all burying effects prevented unburying through any other methods.

  2. Thanks for the comments. I have spent roughly the last year to make the buildings, and I still got some unfinished ones (no hope they will all fit on the board at the same time).

    The board is still a little WIP. As already stated most interiors are unfinished. Also I would like to add some barrels and piles of crates to the street, maybe even a stagecoach. I already ordered some resin kits for that. That should also make the board a bit more interesting gameplay wise: currently there is very few forms of cover besides the total blockage of LoS due to the buildings. Adding some extra bits here and there should help that while making the board more lively. Another plan is to make wooden platforms and walkways for the houses, to get some more western feel.

    I must say at first glance I thought they were laser cut mdf kits I applaud your skills with scratch building.

    Actually, more than one person at the 'Con asked where they can order the stuff. They were kinda disappointed when I told them that the answer is "Nowhere" or "well, if we negotiate on the price..."

    Some people also asked how I got them to look so much like real wood. It could be because the main material used is real wood.

  3. Spent the last weekend at Ropecon 2013 (largest RPG convention in Finland) where I demoed Malifaux and played some other games too. Thought I would share with you some pictures of the terrain I built for demo games during the last year. The pictures were taken by a friend of mine.

    Since my main crew is the Ortegas, going for a Wild West town as terrain felt natural. I built a bunch of buildings from foamboard and balsa wood and bought a gaming mat from Zuzzy. Most of the buildings have separate roofs and interiors as well, but most are WIP on that part.

  4. Was hoping the photo to end up in the newspaper would be a larger picture of the board we used to play on, with a demo going on, instead of a single miniature. I spent the last year building and painting western buildings. Guess I got to post some pictures myself (as soon as I get some from the guys with cameras).

    Got in a bunch of demos in during the weekend. About a couple of dozen people were interested in the game and almost everyone gave positive feedback after the quick demo games. Quite a few people who had only played 1st edition came to ask about Malifaux 2e and it was generally well received. I didn't have the entire weekend to spend on demoing Malifaux since a friend had asked me to help run his home-brewed Call of Cthulhu investigation game. That one had a stunning terrain setup and I got to post pictures of that one too.

    There was also a TV reporter from Finland's biggest commercial TV channel in the con and they filmed all our gaming boards. Ropecon was a topic on Saturday's evening news. The clip that ended on air focused on our Dystopian Wars board right next to the Malifaux table. So no Malifaux on TV sadly.

    This must mean we have to prepare even more enticing terrain to draw more attention next year :P.

  5. I stopped reading that argument halfway page 3 but here is an answer to you:

    Definition of effect: anything applied on a model during the game which changes their attributes from what is written on their card, except for Wd loss.

    This includes stuff like: modifications to stats and additional Talents from Talents and Spells, debuffs applied on the model by another model's Talent or Spell (Censure, Undead Psychosis, Hex, etc.), states of models (Defensive Stance, Falling Back, etc.) and ongoing Auras (the effect must be removed from the model the Aura originates from). Maybe some other stuff too which I don't remember at the moment. The point is that effects are temporal and change the model from what is written on their card.

    Stuff that are definitely not effects are as follows (but not limited to): Wd loss, model's position on the board, Counters and Tokens (the latter get a specific mention in the spell so all is well), anything written on the model's stat card originally, attributes of terrain (you can't remove Severe or Impassable from a terrain piece), instantaneous Actions like Pulses (though if they have lasting effects those effects can be removed).

    Note that in some cases an effect on a model originates from a lasting effect on another model (for example an Aura) or a piece of terrain. These can be removed from the affected model but they will be immediately reapplied by the lasting effect.

  6. A failed cast Action is still an Action used. Thus you will lose the AP you used to cast the spell and a (0) spell counts for your (0) Actions. However, failed casts don't count towards casting limits so you can attempt Obey, Ice Pillars, Flame Wall, etc. again if you fail your first attempt.

    If this wasn't the case and failed casts didn't count for Actions, models with a (0) Spell could just attempt the cast over and over until they succeed.

  7. Whilst not necessarily the optimum choices I have ordered extra stat cards so I can proxy Canine Remains as Guild Hounds and Guild Autopsies as Guild Guards.

    This way I can have a complete Guild crew of living impaired miniatures :D

  8. Hamelin cannot hire a model with Soulless and Construct, since he is forbidden from hiring Constructs. Disabling rules trump enabling rules in hiring your crew. Same reason why you cannot hire Steampunk Arachnids with him: the disabling rule (no Constructs) trumps the enabling one (may hire any Ht 1).

    Also analogous with Hamelin the Ratcatcher in a Viktoria crew: he is allowed to bring any Ht 1 model, but Viktorias limit him to Mercenary models only.

  9. Ryle is a Construct, and his special rule states that he is also living. Since rules on cards trump general rule, he is a Construct which is living instead of non-living. Thus he will be affected by all effects that affect living models, as well as all effects that affect Constructs. He also has all the rules for Constructs, including immunity to Morale Duels. Anything that targets non-living models has no effect on him as he is living.

    He can be targeted by Hallucinations no problem, as he has the Living trait. Same goes for anything that begins with "Target Construct..." or "Target living model...".

    When facing a Terrifying model (let's forget Breach Psychosis for this example) he is affected by the ability since he is living, but will pass automatically since he is immune to Morale Duels due to being a Construct. This is in no way different from living models with Frozen Heart or Lifer: they would be affected by Terrifying if they didn't have an Ability that made them immune.

  10. Multi-model Masters count as one Master for the purpose of Strategies and Schemes which reference Masters. To fulfill Assassinate or make your opponent fail Bodyguard you must kill both Viktorias or both Dreamer and Lord Chompy Bits.

    For Strategies/Schemes referencing Models you can choose only one of them.

  11. Lady Justice: Very high damage output melee Master who also buffs her allies fighting prowess. Her Crew is adept at both melee and ranged combat. The Guild is the shooty faction of the game (almost every model has a ranged attack) but a mostly melee based Crew is very possible.

    McMourning: A very durable melee Master who heals himself as he deals damage. He has a few debuff spells and can summon Flesh Constructs and a Rogue Necromancy (undead chimera, not released yet). His Crew usually consists of a bunch of cheap Undead which his Nurses buff by pumping them full of steroids.

    Seamus: Also very durable and doesn't like melee as much as the other two. He has a big gun which is quite damaging and some spells to scare his enemies. His Belle minions are adept at controlling enemy movements and distracting them while Seamus does most of the killing.

    Nightmare Justice will of course work with both Seamus and McMourning and gives them a few extra options for Crew building. From your preferences (prefer melee, don't like gunlines and mages) it sounds like the Ressers are more of a Crew for you than Guild or Neverborn. Their playstyle has similarities with Trollbloods and Orcs: strong in melee and very durable, with spells focusing on curses, buffs and summoning more undead models.

  12. Myranda does get prey as soon as she transforms into the shikome. It's probably best to wait to transform to be able to pick your target to get the combat bonuses.

    No she doesn't. Shikome receives Prey at the start of the game or when summoned. Shapeshifting into Shikome is neither.

  13. Her weakness is direct damage which ignore her Immune to Influence and insane Df. Pulses that do not offer a resist flip (Immolation Demise, Shatter, Controlled Detonation, BOOM!, etc.) are a nightmare for her as she has a low Wd stat and can't sustain many of them. Blasts are less ideal due to her Evasive ability.

    Of course tossing an Armored high Cb (ideally paired) beatstick at her works too. Peacekeeper comes to mind from Guild options first. She does have Df 8 but will need to cheat and SS her Df flips if she wishes to continually dodge attacks. She does not have a high SS cache to begin with and once she runs out she can't play as aggressively.

    Also make sure that you have enough terrain on the board. Shooty Crews like Perdita's will dominate on an empty wasteland board.

  14. EDIT: Another question that I just remembered: When a Flesh Construct is summoned, does it's Dumb rule allow it to act normal if a card is discarded, or the Slow from summoning rule takes precedence anyway?

    Check the wording: You can discard a card to avoid receiving Slow due to Dumb. This does not remove your Slow due to being summoned so it's quite pointless to do so, unless you discard a Joker for Fast (in which case Fast and Slow cancel each other).

  15. 1. The models gain the benefit while in base contact with the Nurse.

    2. Yes, because resisting a spell is defending in a Duel. Immune to Influence will make you pass that Duel automatically.

    3. If the effect doesn't specify when it ends, it ends during the Resolve Effects Step within the Closing Phase. However, a note on Ice Pillars: the Pillars are terrain pieces and not spell effects so they are permanent and last until destroyed (they also cannot be dispelled etc. for this reason).
