  1. My wife and I were glad to see that you reaced your goal, and especially that Alex is adapting so well to his new hearing aids. It's too bad that some people didn't pay for the auctions they won, but I guess that's the reality of doing business on eBay.

And on the subject of food hiding, one of our neighbor's kids hid an opened package of hot dogs in a hole in the back of their couch. It took quite a while to figure out where the smell was coming from.

  2. I won a local painting contest and I've posted a couple of pics in my member gallery. It's not an amazing piece of work, but it was good enough for this contest. I still have a lot of stuff to learn when it comes to painting minis.

  3. And, as far as the bouncy animation goes, here's a quote from the wikipedia entry.

The song, popular in Finland but previously unknown to the rest of the world, became better-known on the Internet in spring of 2006 because of the flash animation Loituma Girl. The animation starred the character Orihime Inoue from the popular Japanese anime Bleach. For the cartoon the second half of the fifth stanza (four lines) and the complete sixth stanza (eight lines) are used; they have no meaning and are therefore not included in the official lyrics. This is overlooked in most cases by the users who post the lyrics, often causing confusion.

  4. Hi and welcome!

220 minis and about a year? That's quite a quick pace!

You like fantasy sports? If there are more people interested in playing fantasy sports, we could open up a league to add more to the already existing (friendly) competition here. Fantasy Football in September anyone?

A large number of those 220 minis are basic troops for armies, which I do in an assembly-line fashion. They don't get a lot of bells and whistles, so I probably end up averaging 1 1/2 hours per model for them. I'll spend probably 4+ hours on special characters, and I worked on my Warhammer Giant for two weeks last month. But the bulk of my minis are basic troopers used for gaming. It seems that the focus here is more on individual miniatures done to a high standard with very nice basing, which would naturally result in a smaller output. The short version of this paragraph is that I am not some amazing speed-painter, just a moderate painter churning out units.

I love Fantasy Sports. I generally have four teams (Yahoo! only allows four teams per sport) for all of the major sports (American Football, Baseball, Basketball) and dabble in the Golf, NASCAR, and March Madness stuff. I've started running leagues for The Miniatures Page, and would be open to competing in any leagues based here as well. It's always more fun to play against people you know.

    Welcome to Wyrd!

So what's the story behind your user name?

"Chonk" is a word my sister and I used to use when interrupting each other. It's quite bothersome to have someone repeatedly yelling, "Chonk!" when you're trying to tell them something. The 34 comes from basketball. It was Hakeem Olajuwon's jersey number. He played basketball for the Houston Rockets and led them to two championships in the 90s.

  5. Hi all,

I found the site based on the Femme Fatale announcement on The Miniatures Page. I was lured in by the promise of prizes for people who voted and commented on every entry in the contest. I'm a sucker for prizes.

I've been painting miniatures for a about a year now, with approximately 220 minis finished at this point. I consider myself an okay painter, but there are about a million things I need to learn to do better. My focus is mostly on painting units of figures for gaming, although I take extra time trying to make special characters stand out from the crowd.

Other hobbies for me include World of Warcraft, looking for stuff that my Basset Hound steals, fantasy sports, and wasting as much time on the internet as possible.

It seems that you all have a pretty good community going on here, and I hope I can add something to it.

  6. She's a keeper. :D

    Congratulations on making Sergeant btw.

I see that you're located in Georgia. My wife grew up in the Atlanta area, but I dragged her off to Idaho. You must have also taken a look at my blog. Promotions are pretty nice, especially in a Guard unit that doesn't see a lot of openings. Sorry there aren't more pictures of minis on it, I've run into a bit of a dry spell in my painting. I've mostly been planning and prepping figures for the last week or two. Hopefully I'll have a unit of Battle Nuns finished sometime next week.
