  1. Really nice Billy, the colourscheme you have chosen really suits the model too.

Like the base you have used also, and would like to see a better shot of the freehand too.

I have the whole set of these guys with display base, but have not been able to pluck up the courage to do them yet!

  2. I have found dullcoat givea a dead matt finish (from a spray can) to the extent that if I gloss varnish things like gems before spraying even they will be dead matt and need re glossing.

I have found it can either totally kill some levels of highlihjts but makes others pop a bit more. Fore some strange and unknown reason I do also think dullcoat can help the blending to appear more seamless too.

I have had a bad experience with dullcoat where the spray made the purple paint leech into the flesh areas. This was on an extensive bit of freehand on a tank too! If it is ok with Nathan, I had started a thread about this leeching over on CMON and here is the hyperlink to it.

If this is considered bad forum manners then please feel free to delete it Nathan, but hope it helps!

  3. Is this the same guys behind Illyad? if so I am sure they will be doing everything to make their stuff available worldwide because I reckon thats what killed Illyad off- some gorgeous models that you just could not get a hold of.

I also agree with Wren- it will be much better to wait for the game to be translated correctly rather than churn out a hald baked effort that plays poorly.

  4. beautiful stuff so far, the only critique I can offer is that the hai, flesh and dress are all very similar tones IMO, and I would not change a thing with the flesh and hair...

Hope this has been helpful, this is just my two pence worth, you have the start of a vert beautiful mini.

  5. Well your english is definatley better than my russian so please don't apologise!

Welcome to Wyrd, this place has a real friendly and homeley atmosphere to it and I am sure you will enjoy it here.

Your work looks really good- especially for quick tabletop jobs, and its good to meet a male russian painter too!

  6. I also have 'pokemon fever' whenever Felix has a new AOW release, but I must say that I really do not like this one. I hope it is a very early WIP and felix blows my socks off again when its finished. But as it stands, as an england manager once said, do I not like that! Matty hit the nail on the head when he said it looks all barreley- even more so than the new ltd dwarfs that are getting a right slating on here! Who am I kidding though, I know I'm gonna buy it!!!

That dark elf sounds superb though, I love Mark Gibbons concept art, and he and alex Boyd are my fave GW artists. Marks concept and Felix's sculpting should be worth the hype. Maybe, just maybe by the time the Dark elf is released my goblin would have been posted out to me!

  7. I personally love felix's figures (although his despatching times leave a little to be desired!) but I would not class any of them as original- they all have a very distinctive GW feel about them ( this is probably deliberate from him working in the GW studio and also from a marketing point of view). In fact the elf is probably the most original sculpt of all 4 AOW figures!

I can certainly see Mattys point looking at the picture, as thereare too many similarities to just be coincidence (the armour, winged helm, chainmail cloak etc). However the picture in no way looks like an Elf to me! Although the sculpt may share similar qualities I personally reckon the sculptor has done enough to 'elf them up'- especially the sword armour and helm, as well as the overall build and bulkieness of the mini.

There is also the question of how original can you get now when sculpting an Elf ,Dwarf, orc etc? there are certain features and characteristics that define fantasy races and if you stray too far from these you run the risk of missing the mark completley! The fantasy genre has been about for many, many years now- in art and literature before miniatures, and people have very distinct images of how fantasy races are supposed to look.
