  1. Aaron, we are totally on the same page there. I paint when I can, but I'm not going to let that stop me from enjoying a game. and when all else fails, bone-headed game play can totally throw off your opponent and swing things back in your favor. That, or you're laughing too much to care that they're being overly competitive.
  2. my models won't get knocked down. they will be victorious. and when they fall in the line of duty, they will instead be lifted from the field to return from whence they came.
  3. Mid-August, eh? Might that coincide with a certain convention in Indianapolis? I'd hate to run after hours demos without cards for my crews, after all.
  4. You know us, Kel. we'll find all the problems. and if we can't find any, we'll make them up.
  5. well, what happens when both undefeated armies are painted? There's always going to be rooms for "the simple joys of a monkey knife fight."
  6. Redstripe's brought up a good point. None of the tournament stuff was ever intended to compete with the painting contests. The Wyrd painting contests are totally separate from any painting prizes that might be involved with a Malifaux tournament. Malifaux might be Wyrd, but Wyrd is not just Malifaux (see Twisted line).
  7. What we'd been discussing was a bump just for having a fully painted and based force. there was nothing subjective about what we've been thinking about and discussing so far. merely an objective "is it fully painted or not" type of thing. The subjective, "best painted" side of things will be completely separate. We've just been looking at things where 2 people could go undefeated, but one has a fully painted army, and the other has a completely bare metal or primer army. They both played just as well, and there would just be a nudge from being fully painted. We feel there should be an incentive to paint, but certainly not a requirement. Best Looking Crew would certainly be a separate prize than the Tournament Champion, although the same player might win both.
  8. Already confirmed by Eric yesterday. As for the future, once TBK and I get the draft ready, it will go over to Eric for him to tweak as he sees fit, I'm sure. Like Nathan said, nothing is set in stone right now at all. Well, nothing except the fact that there will be a tournament, and that there will be a prize for the best painted crew. That means you should order your crews now and start painting so they're ready for Gen Con.
  9. My only regret is my small gaming budget prevent me from buying all of the new Supremes as soon as they get released. Pulp City is a lot of fun, and like Redstripe said, there is a ton of depth you can get out the system, especially with recent releases. A.R.C. is just sooo freakin' cool! I'm going to have to break down and pick them all up at Gen Con. Guerilla, Chimp Chi, Spyder, VIRUS, and now Howler. Love it!
  10. possibly. TBK is in charge. I'm just helping to prevent all of the power going to his head.
  11. Steve, they're looking nice. It's going to be such a shame when they all fall down.
  12. First of all, the painting will not be a factor at Gen Con except in the case of ties (most likely). This is a tournament that we're running to get people even more excited about the game, and to give people an incentive to buy their models early, play, demos, and join us for the other after hours events to get some games in. If you're running bare metal and blue tac at Gen Con, we'll probably look the other way. Speaking from an inside perspective on whether painting will or will not affect where you stand in a tournament, I can say that both sides are being considered while we're working on this. In a game where your crew in a Scrap sized tournament can be 5 models, expecting fully painted models is not unreasonable. They will not, however, be required. There will be a significant incentive to run a fully painted and based force, however. We're still working out details for this, but we know that some players don't care about painting, and some players care about painting as much as playing, if not more. We are also working on rules for proxies and conversions. We've seen a few sets of rules for organized play that, by the R.A.W., put pretty severe restrictions on that side of the hobby. We're going to leave a lot of room for players to get the models looking exactly how they want, but we're also going to have some very clear guidelines to keep everyone on the same page. blkdymnd is pretty close to what we're shooting for. You might slaughter everyone at the tournament, but if you didn't take the time to paint your army, you're not going to score as high as someone who maybe have a few less VP over all, but brought a fully painted and nicely based army. I'm confident that TheBugKing and I can get the rules pretty much straightened out in the next week or two, depending on work schedules and such.
  13. Penis-enlargement emails are so appropriate here.
  14. I could I have sworn I typed 9pm to 12am. fixing now if not.
  15. Play a demo and buy a book, and you'll be pretty well off for the tournament. This one is geared towards new people and anyone who wants to show up from the playtesters. Like TBK said, come on down and join the party.
  16. NEWS BULLETIN!!! This just in from Eric. There will be a prize for the best painted crew in the tournament. Painting won't be required, and it will probably not affect your standing, but it is encouraged, and you stand a chance to win some more loot. As for Nicodem, he does just fine with Punk Zombies and Flesh Constucts. In fact, he does more than fine.
  17. We've got some of our best agents still looking into that business with that young woman at the funeral. We shouldn't also have to babysit our guards. And while we're... Would you please keep it down? I'm trying to have a conversation here. What are you moaning abou-AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
  18. I've never been known to have alcohol with me when I was playing Warmachine at 12:30 in the morning at Gen Con. Nope, not me. No sir. I'm sure there's going to be some drinking. In fact, I've already got a few people who have claimed time to partake of fine spirits with me on Wednesday night. :vb_cheers: :friday:
  19. Nick, I'm sure general insights into the twisted minds of the inhabitants of Malifaux will suffice.
  20. I heard that rumor too, actually. but I chalked it up to more of Ramos' lies.
  21. Well, there has been some chatter about this here and there, but we realized last night that this hasn't been posted anywhere formally yet. There will be demos in the booth all day while the dealers' hall is open, and there will be 3 after-hours events. These are all free events. The table space is being provided by Table Top Gamers in Room 201. (This is the same room where all of their other events will be.) The times are so late because we had to work around existing events, sorry. Thursday, August 13 Malifaux Demos and Open Gaming 9pm - 12am If you didn't get to try the game out in the booth, we've got some extra demo time going on here. We'll have crews available, but bringing your own is welcomed and encouraged. This is also a great opportunity to get in some starter set games with the models you purchased earlier in the day. There will be a few Henchmen around to help you out and show you around Malifaux. Playtester & Henchmen grudge matches might be going on as well, so you might even learn some dirty tricks before the tournament. Friday, August 14 Malifaux: Play with the Designers 8pm - 11pm Eric, Dan, and Ambrose will be on hand to give you some insight into what went into creating Malifaux. Learn about the history of some of the models. Get the story of how things evolved from what was shown at least year's Gen Con into what we've got now. Nick might be around with fun bits of back story that didn't make it into the book. Who knows what might happen? Eric, Dan, and Ambrose will also be showing off their favorite crews as they take on all comers. There might even be some goodies for anyone who can beat all three of them.* Maybe the infamous Decap (10) will show up, too. Saturday, August 15 1st Annual Malifaux Gen Con Tournament 9pm - 12am This will be a 25 Soulstone Scrap tournament that is perfect for the starter sets. We're looking to have 3 timed rounds for this one (it might run a little later if it has to). Nathan has said that there will be some prizes up for grabs here, but I don't know anything more than that right now. Knowing Wyrd though, they're sure to take care of whoever wins. This might be the first tournament at a Gen Con, but it's not going to be the last if we've got anything to say about it. PROXY RULES PENDING If you're looking for something to do at night that isn't sleeping, bring your crew and flip some cards. Your fate is in your hands. *goodies are not certain right now.
  22. Oh, I just meant that if you don't want your big regenerating mass of rampage, 2 packs of 3 Sillurids can be pretty fun too. Like TBK said, if Zoraida can see you, you're in trouble. And Zoraida plus gremlins makes for a balanced breakfast.
  23. Those were better than good. They were awesome!
  24. I thought we had the copies of that book under lock and key. It must be time to "remind" our Guild Guards about the importance of keeping such things from slipping out. [out of character]I'm leaving Gen Con with the Nicodem starter, and probably Sybelle and another pack of belles to go with Seamus and his ladies that already live at my place.[/out of character]
