  4. Kuang Shi Kuang Shi was the name given to soulless zombies in Southern China. The current incarnation of the Kuang Shi are quite similar, political or reoffending prisoners who disappear from the jails of the Celestial Guard to endure a deep brainwashing process, being reduced to mere human shells repeating the Information Ministry’s propaganda. The Kuang Shi are condemned to a delayed death sentence that is most useful for the system. The judicial specialists turn them into resolute soldiers who are capable of sacrificing their lives for he who they once most despised, the Emperor. In this way, the Son of Heaven gives them the chance to become loyal subjects and redeem their mistakes by giving their life for him. After the process of “political teaching” and training, they are loaded with incendiary explosives, provided with a cheap Chain Rifle and assigned a target. Their explosives are equipped with a remote activation control. The Celestial Guard responsible for watching them carries a control device allowing him to detonate them whenever he wants. If a soldier falls, the explosives go off automatically. If the Kuang Shi go out of control or withdraw, the detonation device is also activated. As can be supposed, they don’t usually survive their missions. However, a Kuang Shi’s death is usually a cause for joy amongst other Yu Jing troops, as it doesn’t just mean there is one less traitor, but also that, when exploding, he may have taken a good number of enemies with him. Asawira Regiment The Asawira Regiment is a formidable attack force in the service of Haqqislam. A small group chosen from among them comprises the personal guard of the Shah. The remainder act as elite heavy troops and are one of the tools that keep the Hassassin sect under the supervision of the Haqqislamite High Command. They are equipped with the finest light powered armor on the market, provided with aiming and target acquisition devices and with the most efficient automedic systems. But beyond their equipment, the Asawira are a select unit, expert and very well trained. They fulfill all kinds of combat missions, be they aggressive or defensive ones. Their members are recruited from the Alamut region, where the climate and environment are so harsh that, without specialized medical attention, 70% of children would die before reaching adolescence. The Asawira are tough, arrogant, confident and brave men; a real race of warriors. Their military training emphasizes tenacity in attacks and a disdain for self-preservation. As an elite corps, they do not let themselves be killed any old way. They die as their reputation dictates and the expectation is it will not be until they have drawn rivers of enemy blood. Their skill as warriors cannot be compared with that of other elite units because they are, simply, superior to all of them. The word is that an Asawira can face in close combat any three expert fighters of the Human Sphere and he will come out victorious. Fighting and wining against superior numbers is the truest hallmark of the Asawira. Loup-Garou, Groupe Mobile D’action Spéciale “Le Loup Désire, le Loup Obtient” (What the wolf wants, the wolf gets) Motto of the Loup-Garou. Merovingia is the Ariadnan region with the smallest area bordering the Antipode territories, which is why its Dogface population is minimal. Nevertheless, being an important nexus for Ariadnan communications, it has some itinerant Dogfaces who work as drivers, carriers and escorts for convoys and merchandise caravans crossing the region. These Dogfaces are just travelers and their stay in Merovingia is short, but some nights too much alcohol, drugs or women, or a combination of them all, causes them to become violent. If the situation gets out of control, or if they turn into Dog-Warriors, then the Loup-Garou step in. The Mobile Group of Special Action is a self-sufficient rapid response team, specially trained and highly disciplined, able to react to emergencies in Merovingia as well as any other place inside the Ariadnan territories. Created as a special riot squad of the Merovingian Gendarmerie, it has a paramilitary nature and receives its training alongside Ranger and Para-Commando units. All its members are volunteers and serve as full-time agents of the Gendarmerie, in detachments spread across the entire country, available to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day. The group also keeps a small full-time operative team in the Tactical Operations Center of the Gendarmerie in the Haie d’Étigues, where all its agents undertake extensive training focused on special weapons and tactics. These agents have to satisfy rigorous standards of physical and mental ability. Though they have special ammunition to neutralize violent Dogfaces (the so-called Silver Bullets) any such interventions have a high threshold of danger. But as they say: “You need a Werewolf to stop a Dogface”. When the police aren’t enough to handle a situation, it’s time to call in the Loup-Garou. As a mobile group, it is capable of reaching crisis locations swiftly and is usually the first special unit on the scene. Their primary role in the field is to stop and capture all Dogfaces that offer resistance. Obviously, this implies frequently violent engagements. It is their ability and experience with these extreme situations that makes the difference between a successful arrest and a tragic event. Cadmus Shavastii Cadmus was a heroic king in Greek mythology who claimed a string of dragon teeth as a trophy after killing one of the mighty beasts. One day, he needed an army and, advised by Athena, sowed the dragon teeth into the ground. From the teeth sprang an army of powerful and fierce warriors, with only five of them allowing Cadmus to found the city of Thebes. No one knows if the Shasvastii have a similar myth but they have recreated it perfectly with their airborne troops. The Cadmus Shasvastii are an exact reflection of the military doctrines of their race: infiltration and non-conventional warfare rather than direct engagement; precision and economy of means rather than an excess of force; total adaptation to the environment and to their enemy. A Cadmus trooper will always be at least as lethal as any adversary it confronts, and never less. The Cadmus are the pinnacle of malleability, able to scan any enemy trooper nearby and copy his capabilities, a frighteningly fast and effective way to create elite troops. Moreover, if this is not fearsome enough, they can absorb organic matter to regenerate their wounds, literally devouring their adversaries in close combat. The Shasvastii army can sow a whole battlefield with Cadmus capsules, time bombs from which sprout warriors as powerful and fierce as those that grew from the dragon’s teeth of the Theban king. Tomcats, Emergency and Rescue Special Team The Tomcat Team is a unit of heroes. Its members are on active service twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Originating from Corregidor, the Tomcats constitute the extreme situation intervention and reaction unit of the Nomad Military Force. To Corregidor, whose manpower works in deep space conditions, the existence of a emergency rescue team is essential. In space, the most hostile environment possible, accidents are always deadly. In such situations, to save lives and avoid more deaths, speed and precision are vital and there is no room for error. The wide range of their functions and the flexible Nomad organizational structure has obliged the Tomcats to become a militarized unit. Tomcats must be multi-skilled operatives, with varied specialities, allowing them to achieve success in any mission. The Nomad Military Force makes good use of their exceptional qualities in combat operations, as a quick response and support unit for situations which need special abilities. Their function is to serve in extraordinary rescues, immediate reaction operations and in extremis hostage liberation missions. In a nutshell, they save lives. When the alarm sounds, they know they have to go from zero to critical in seconds. They must be always at full performance. Their missions are always very important, and they must accomplish them without hesitations. Whether on a ship or deployed planetside, when they have to respond to a situation, there always are lives at risk. Believers in the aphorism “Sweat saves blood”, the continuous and intensive instruction program of the Tomcats is crucial to guarantee success in their operations. Excellence is not an objective, it is the point of departure. The pressure of their service is brutal, but the recognition and regard of Corregidor society compensates it fully: all Nomad children want to be a Tomcat when they grow up. I went for Tzeentch colors to make him really stand out on the table. The skin was lots of fun to do...but then spikes...THE SPIKES...THE SPIIIIIIIIIIIIIKES :afraid::afraid::afraid: I never ever EVER want to paint a miniature with so many spikes again. They drove me mad. I didn't realize this beforehand. Oh well. Glas he's finished! I'm happy with the bright colors and general looks.

  11. November 16, 2009 Update: Dark Sword is pleased to announced our latest Limited Edition CMON miniature - Sad Panda is posted in our Online Store. We are also very pleased to announce the newest member of our sculpting team that brought Sad Panda to life - Mr. Jason Wiebe! Jason also sculpted up two Honey Badgers for the Dark Sword line that you can check out the greens on. You can click over to the Sad Panda picture to read more about Jason Wiebe and what he will be working on for Dark Sword. The 2009 Dark Sword Halloween Tribute Piece is also here and ready for shipping out. You can add them both to your collection by clicking over to our Online Store. I have received the Gen Con Indy CD with the pics. So a Gen Con Indy update will be coming very soon with some fun DragonCon pics. Visions in Fantasy - CMON Limited Edition Sad Panda - DSM7507 Limited to 399 Copies Worldwide made available for sale. He will not be available in general distribution. Dark Sword only has 141 copies of this cute little guy available in our Online Store. The rest are all spoken for . Dark Sword Miniatures is beyond pleased to welcome Mr. Jason Wiebe into the sculpting mix at Dark Sword. He was taught the double-secret probation (Animal House reference -sorry) handshake at Gen Con Indy when we nailed down his first three sculpts for Dark Sword. Jason has done work for all of the big companies, most notably our good pals at Reaper. I wanted to bring in another sculptor that could help Dave Summers expand our Frog line out into some interesting directions with really fun pieces. Jason was my one and only choice for this type of sculpting style as he has an eye for this and fits right in with what Dave has been doing for Dark Sword. As many people know, I like to keep a really tight-knit group at Dark Sword on both the sculpting and painting fronts. This helps keep a line tight. We have Tom Meier and Jeff Grace teaming up on certain aspects of our range and now we have Dave Summers and Jason Wiebe teaming up for other parts of our range. Work in some Gael Goumon sculpts from time to time and we have a rock-solid foundation built from working with some of the finest sculptors in the world. The idea for Sad Panda was born at Gen Con Indy 2009. Dave from CMON and I were tossing ideas around for something fun and Sad Panda came out of this. He was "supposed" to be modeled off of one of my local friends who was at Gen Con with us as he has many Panda-like features according to Dave at CMON. But as it turned out, we opted to not have him pose naked with a bamboo stick slung over his shoulder for Jason Wiebe. We cut the very talented Jason loose on Sad Panda and the results are too cute for words. This is why we have pictures. The very talented Miss Marike Reimer did the honors on painting up Sad Panda as she painted up our other two limited edition miniatures that have both sold out. Plus Sad Panda is essentially nekkid, so it was Marike's chance to finally paint up a nekkid Dark Sword male miniature. So you ladies that have emailed me about doing a nekkid male miniature to go along with some of our scantily clad female miniatures have your chance to even the score with Sad Panda. This is why is he sad as he is being exploited for his dead-sexy body and not his charming personality. And no I did not model for Sad Panda. Do not miss out on this limited edition miniature like many people did on the following two miniatures: Sold Out CMON Limited Edition Miniature # 1 - Tom Meier Sold Out CMON Limited Edition Miniatures # 2 - Jeff Grace First come first served as always. Once he is gone, no Sad Panda for you! Shown here with his hat on. I prefer it off, but it is included so you can do whatever you like with it. 16. 28mm Warrior Frog Artillery & CavalryOur range of Warrior Frogs appears to have gained something of a cult status amongst miniatures collectors with an eye for the off-beat and the eye catching. They were originally inspired by the anthropomorphic battle scenes of 19th Century Japanese artist, Kawanabe Kyosai, whose pictures depicted frogs and turtles engaged in traditional style samurai combat. These paintings included frog cavalry mounted on toads and sculptor Kosta Heristanidis thought these would be an ideal addition to the range, suitably embellished with a few ideas of his own such as samurai back-banners; turtle shell body armour and shields. All the individual Frog cavalry miniatures are supplied with a toad mount, randomly selected from any one of six different variants – which include toads standing, toads advancing, or toads filling out their air sacks for a mighty war-croak, or even variants making the much feared sticky toad-tongue attack! The riders are available as ‘knights’ / heavy cavalry in body armour, with shields and back-banners, or as ‘standard cavalry’. Both the principal cavalry codes 100FRG22 and 23 come with a selection of different weapon arms (lance, pistol or war mallet) which can be attached to the rider’s body at different angles for variety. Other codes allow you to order Frog Cavalry specifically armed with swords or muskets (Frog Dragoons perhaps?!) You can also take advantage of the Frog Cavalry Squadron set (100FRG26) which at a much reduced cost from acquiring the miniatures individually will provide you with six mounted frogs, including all six toad variants. The Warrior Frog riders and their equipment are cast in white metal, while the toad bodies are cast in resin plastic (some assembly is required). Now that we have Warrior Frog foot warriors and Warrior Frog cavalry it seems only right and proper to offer some artillery as well, so Kosta has designed a Warrior Frog artillery piece and crew. The Warrior Frogs take great pride in their expensive ordnance and their guns are often very ornate in appearance. This example sports a Frilled Neck Lizard barrel, and is accompanied by six proud and highly trained artillerists. We think one of the great attractions of this range is the endless opportunities it presents for figure painters to run riot with aquatic colour schemes. Both riders and toad mounts can be decorated in a dazzling array of colour schemes – taken straight out of the pages of National Geographic or any number of David Attenborough natural history documentaries. We hope some of the pictures might inspire you. Here are the catalogue details for the new miniatures. 18. Well, the Goblins maybe gone but the machine marches on all the same. New pre-orders are available from today. First up is Layla the Sorceress in 30mm scale, whom I sculpted on a whim earlier this year (I like to sculpt myself something as a birthday present once a year). She went down well with the folk I showed it to so she went off to the mouldmaker. Secondly is my first ever bust, an evil warrior (I see him as some sort of vampire or demon. With his brow like that, he's not quite human, that's for sure). Normally busts are rather large subjects but I've always had the idea in my head to sculpt smaller ones. This entire bust is 35mm tall and something equivalent to 1/20th scale (I think). Anyway, I'm taking pre-orders as of today, and expect production casts in just a few days. Incidentally, if you'd like to see more busts, why not let me know... I certainly enjoyed sculpting him. Layla: Sorceress (pre-order) 35mm foot to top of head Unpainted resin figure Supplied with plastic base £6.50 Evil Warrior Bust (pre-order) 35mm from base to top of head Unpainted resin bust £8.50 Link: http://www.eolithminiatures.com/
