"FIRST FOUR FA FLEETS GO BACK TO SPACEDOCK FOR A REFIT July 14th, 2010 Spartan Games is pleased to announce that the first four fleets for our Firestorm Armada space combat game – Dindrenzi Federation, Aquan Prime, Terran Alliance and Sorylian Collective – are being given a refit. We have made a number of manufacturing changes to the master models and redesigned the moulds with which we produce out highly detailed spaceship models. Martin Jones, manager of the Spartan Production Studio, explains: “We took the decision to modfy the master models and rebuild the moulds to simplify [reduce] the number of component parts of our models. With a very high volume game like FA this takes time to do as quite literally hundreds of production moulds need to be made for our team of model makers to use. And at the same time not impact availability. So we’re phasing in the new hull designs, starting with the Dindrenzi Battleship and Cruiser hulls.” With the work completed and the new Dindrenzi models in production we are now moving to release new Sorylian Battleship models during July, followed by single piece Aquan Battleship and Cruiser hulls, with the fourth fleet, the Terran Alliance, seeing a refit of all three initial hulls. Once the core three ships for the initial four fleets have been refitted we will look to modify the moulds for the Carriers for each fleet. Jones concludes, "We're sure our customers will like the work we've done on the models and the more simple way our models will now assemble. At the same time we took a look at some of the hull designs to see what new craft we could come up, but more about these models another time." ***** "TERRAN AR-16 FIGHTER Below you can see a concept model for the Terran AR-16 MK III Fighter. This is the latest design of fighter to be used by the Terran forces. It first saw action in the Deltran System, deployed as part of a Recon Marine 0peration to destroy a secret Directorate Research & Development base. Since then it has been deployed throughout the Terran fleets, and variants can also be found in the Sorylian Fleets, the cockpit modified to accept pilots of this alien race. From the beginning of the war, Terran Commanders stressed that this was set to be a bitter conflict, battles won by absorbing great losses - a true war of attrition. This doctrine is epitomised with the AR-16, which has become the standard fighter in the Terran arsenal. It is designed to overwhelm an enemy, deployed in volume, with close formation tactical combat deeply ingrained in the minds of pilots. The AR-16 is built around a twin Trilag Systems power-plant, which outputs ‘pulse bursts’ of power that a complex command and control system utilises to power the various subsystems of the fighter. Well 2010 is upon us and the very talented Jen Haley has followed in the footsteps of my wife Melissa , my two miniature schnauzers and Marike Reimer to be immortalized by Mr. Tom Meier. Jen was very involved in the concept phase of this design as she wanted to be a SteamPunk character. The results speak for themselves and I think many folks will have fun painting this piece up. The detailing on her hair, bodice and dress are just amazing. Dark Sword is going to use the proceeds of the sales from this miniature to help Jen defray the costs of a trip to a big international painting competition in 2011. These trips can get expensive and Dark Sword wants to do its part to help send the painters we have the privilege of working with over there to compete.
