The Roadkill scholar ability specifies that if a living or undead model within an 8"aura of Mcmourning is killed, then he can summon a canine remains into base contact with it before it is removed. Looking at page 50 of the main rule book, it says that by default auras are inclusive of the model that generates them unless the effect specifies otherwise. So McMourning is within the 8" bubble and has the living characteristic, which makes him a valid target. The timing of Roadkill Scholar is the same Finish the Job, so that might be useful as a comparison. Finish the Job only effects the model with the ability on it card, whereas Roadkill scholar works for any living or undead models inside the aura. Both abilities state that their effects occur when a model that meets the ability's criteria is killed, but before it is removed from play. With that in mind, it seems like McMourning would be able to summon a Canine Remains if he were killed by poison and had the Moonlighting upgrade.
