  1. I will be at Madness Games and Comics in Plano, TX this Sunday for demos, free play, and unofficially for players who missed the first League night Wednesday to get in a catch up game(try to let me know ahead of time if you plan on doing this). I will see you there!
  2. I will be at Madness in Plano again this Sunday, from 12ish to 5ish for another day of demos and beginner games for new comers as well as free play for the vets. This will be the last free play/demo day before our upcoming Wednesday night league, so come and get your practice in!
  3. In the spirit of the Warmachine "Journeyman League", I will be running a Malifaux Steamfitter's League starting October 3rd at Madness Games and Comics in Plano, TX (Located at Parker and Custer, we'll be in the store's annex). The object is to introduce new players to the rules gradually while slowly growing their force. Entry for the league will be free, and it will last for four weeks. Only games played on Wednesday nights at Madness will count towards the league. There will be no painting requirement, and no restrictions will be made with regards to who you can play other than no playing the same person twice in one night. You must declare one faction to be used for all four weeks of the league. We will declare at the end of the league a first, second and third place winner, based on league points, with victory points as a tie breaker. The best fully painted crew to be used in an actual game will determine Best Painter. There will also be a Best Sportsman. Anyone who plays all four weeks of the league will receive a small participation prize. One league point will be rewarded for playing a game, and another point for winning. The use of schemes in your games will be optional and must be consented to by both players. Use of schemes in a game will result in +1 league point. The format for each week of the league will be as follows: Week 1: Fresh Off the Train 20ss Scrap Fixed Shared Strategy, to be announced that night Standard deployment rules Random Location (Outdoor Locations only) No special terrain features/events Week 2: Union Initiation 20ss Scrap Fixed Shared Strategy, to be announced that night Standard deployment rules Random Location (Outdoor Locations only) Random terrain features/events Week 3: Rising Powers 25ss Scrap Random Shared Strategy Random deployment rules Random Location (Outdoor Locations only) Random terrain features/events Week 4: Masters of Malifaux 30ss Scrap Random Shared Strategy Random deployment rules Random Location (Outdoor Locations only) Random terrain features/events Schemes Mandatory Players must agree to use schemes or not, and must agree on terrain rules before play begins, or it will be my call. Terrain Height will be based on the number of inches tall, rounded up. Linear obstacles approx 1" high and less than 1/2 inch" thick will be considered hard cover but will provide no impediment to movement, unless both players agree otherwise. Use of models from Storm of Shadows will be permitted. Use of Avatars will not be permitted. Proxy models will be permitted if they pass my judgement and if your opponent agrees(this allowance is more for things like Mindless Zombies, Malifaux Rats, or other models summoned in large quantities, and the proxies must be reasonably close representations. Please do not abuse it or expect to proxy normally hired models you don't own. Check with me ahead of time if you have a question). PM me or shoot me an email at sarsemn@gmail.com with your name and faction if you plan on entering, or if you have a question. This will be my first time running a league and I really hope it solidifies the nascent Malifaux community in North DFW. I will see you there!
  4. I will be up at Madness Games and Comics in Plano, TX from 6-9 on 9/26 to give out demos, get new players matched up for beginner games, and to facilitate free play. I'll see you all there!
  5. Gonna be up at Madness Games in Plano, TX Wednesday night for anyone who wants demos/intro games or just a regular game if you're up to speed. See you there!
  6. I should be up at Madness Games and Comics in Plano, TX again this Sunday(9/16), from around noonish to five-ish. Malifaux players, bring your stuff and let's get some games going! As always, if anyone wants a demo or walk through on game, let me know and I'll be happy to oblige. See you there!
  7. This Wednesday(9/12) I should be up at Madness Games and Comics in Plano, TX between 6 and 7 to facilitate games for new players getting used to the rules and to give demos where needed. I encourage players in the area or anyone interested to show up and get a game in. Everyone around here is pretty new to it so don't be afraid if you don't have all the rules down. Oh and FYI we'll be over in the store's annex and they close at 9. See you there!
  8. Thanks to everyone who showed up! We got almost half a dozen new players which exceeded my expectations! We should have a fairly good sized pool of Malifaux players in the area now! Keep bringing your stuff up on Wednesdays and Sundays guys! I'll be there whenever I can and even if I can't hopefully enough people will start showing up that everyone can get a game in!
  9. The North Dallas Malifaux community is nebulous at best and nonexistent at worst, but I plan to change that. This Sunday I will be at Madness Games and Comics (in the annex) at Independence and Custer in Plano, giving demos and helping to facilitate free play for any interested. I'll be there around noon and will stay till 5-ish or when interest dies down. I hope to be up there as frequently as work will allow on Sundays and Wednesday evenings, so anyone in the area feel free to drop by or PM me if you have questions.
  10. If a scheme requires you to secretly elect a model, and you choose to announce that scheme, must you also announce the model selected, or does that remain hidden?
  11. So, I've been playing Malifaux on and off since it premiered last Gencon. One thing that has really bugged my play group and has confused us that it hasn't been brought up much here is Samael Hopkins. None of us are scrubs or noobs at games of this type so we don't feel like we're just falling into a beginner's trap or we just don't know how to deal with him. But for some reason this model just seems way too good to us. Once fire bullets goes off (which is incredibly easy unless my card is misprinted), the amounts of damage he can do in a turn is so disgusting it just overcomes everything. Massive models worth several SS more than him just go down like they were made of paper. He gets even better against higher Ca models, which in many cases tend to be the less survivable ones anyway. It's gotten to the point where we basically stopped playing for a while due to balance issues caused largely by him, and we have considered house ruling him to curb his power a bit(possibly making Fire Bullets a (1) instead of (0)) so we can safely get into the new releases. Then I get on here, and see not one single similar complaint or comment. What's the deal? Do people not see his outright raw power(combined with decent survivability;he isn't exactly a glass cannon) as a problem? Has no one ever played a game or two where his sheer output made you pause and wonder if you did that right?
  12. Can someone who has had success with Ramos give some very specific guidelines or battle reports to show how he has been used effectively? I play Guild, but I have seen Ramos fail terribly again and again and I just have to agree that he is incredibly bottom tier.
