Von Schill and his Freikorps

Dremia

I started painting miniatures about a year ago, after going to our local gamestore with my husband. He has painted since he was a kid. I saw the Malifaux catalog, and that was it. I've been bugging him to play with me since, and the only way I could get him to was to paint a gang for him. Here are his Freikorps:

Hmm, would seem our photography needs some work dremia. These look slightly blurred, washed out and the color is a bit warmer than reality. Guess its back to the drawing board on our photo setup. The reflectors helped but we really need a camera that can balance for the incandescent lights better.

Don't beat yourselves up. The photography is by far not the worst I have seen. In fact, it's better than many we see on these boards. I'm sure people will be along to give you pointers on how to improve it.

As for the painting, it is nice and clean which is always a good start. You have some nice, simple, highlighting. The skin on Von Schill seems a little rough, but not bad. I have to ask about his eyes though. Am I seeing things or are they backwards? White irises on black schelera? Interesting stylistic choice if intentional. It works. (This coming from a guy who uses red schelera on his nephilim.)

Thanks, Brugly! The skin isn't actually rough, it's the shading and the photo quality. It does look that way though.

And yes, I painted the sclera black. I was originally taught that method for highlighting. The white is the glint of light. I could do it color/black and it would look more realistic. But, I never intended to show my minis to anyone, to be honest.

He didn't paint them himself because he says he trained me to be his paint slave. He's cute when he thinks he's being sneaky.

I do have pics of my crew, but they are from when I first started painting. They look a little beat up.

He's planning out terrain pieces now, so perhaps once we get some made, we'll get those pictures shared too :).

Pretty cool! I just don't know why he wouldn't paint them himself. lol

Got some images of your crew? Maybe some of the games you play together?

We do-I've got a lot of Malifaux models. I've been collecting them for a year and painting them just because I like them. I'm working on the Ravage crew, male Hog Whisperer, the Colette DuBois gang and a few others now. I love the gremlins, I suck at playing them though. I think the pictures of Von Schill came out bad-they look pixely, or warped. I dunno. They are bad. Here are some more-

My husband is now hooked, so I imagine he'll be adding also. Although, he's really itching to work on terrain.
