  1. I am not sure how much of a factor it would be to you, but the Misaki box is a hard kit to put together in my opinion. I built it last night. There are a lot of thin, tiny pieces. The pieces for a particular model are not all grouped together. They are numbered such as A1, A2, etc for each model. But it seemed like some pieces didn't have the designation on them. When I finally finished building it, I realized that it was kind of a waste. I have the vintage Misaki so I won't be using her model. I probably won't use Shang. I might use one Torakage. This is mainly due to the frailty of the chains on two of them and they seemed undersized. And then Ototo, well I have other beater henchman to use in TT and Outcasts. So basically, I ended up getting this kit for one model and the Misaki upgrade cards. A Ten Thunder Brother will probably replace the Torakage if they die as easily as everyone says. And I can probably get the upgrade cards from print on demand. LOL

  2. Since I am new to the game, I wanted to get some insight from the community on how they approach crew building. I am not looking for anything specific such as particular schemes, strategies, etc. I am just curious how people do it in general. Is there a certain amount of SS that you set aside for upgrades? For scheme runners? Beaters or Interceptors? Is there a certain SS cache amount you use? Do you build for a certain number of activations? Or is there an ability that you find you always need to include regardless of the crew such as an extra control card? Or is this not generally a part of the process and crew building is heavily focused on the schemes and strategy?

I find the Bandidos are pretty meh and I play Parker. They Drop easy, don't have a lot of movement options and get picked apart by casters. You'll never want to play with more than 2 and that's with Parker for the other masters there are much better options (void wretches, Winged plague, Oiran for Misaki) With Parker they work a lot better for his synergy but you'll take the Undead outlaws more

What do the Undead Outlaws do?

  4. Thanks for the replies. I am still confused, are Bandidos any good at scheme running? Being a new player, their ability to run and gun combined with their scheme markers abilities makes me think they would be an excellent model to use. I they are any good then I intend to buy the Parker box. If not, are there any suggestions for scheme runners?

  5. Thank you for the input. I do have 10T Brothers. I ran two of them with Oiran today and Hidden Agenda on Mei Feng. I used the Oiran lure to pull the brothers up to them on turn 1 before they activated. With Standard deployment, I was on centerline ready to drop schemes on both flanks. I only got to make use of Hidden Agenda once. Unfortunately, I didn't have the flips or cards to help make the attacks land. I agree that their damage is low, but they do also cause poison on their 1 AP attack. I will have to try them a few more times, but I agree that the Brothers are nice for holding the lines and keeping your opponent from messing with your markers.

  6. I am new to the game. I currently have Von Schill and Misaki to use as masters. I have the Von Schill box, a Malifaux Child, Johan, Wokou Raiders, and Lazarus to currently use with Vanessa and the Misaki box on the way. I have been looking at the Bandidos and they seem like they could be some good scheme runners while still being able to do a bit of damage. I tried to find some posts on them, but my search fu seemed to have failed me. So are Bandidos viable? If so, should they be purchased with the Parker set or solo? Would they work well in replacing my Freikorps Men that I currently have? Would you run 1, 2, or 3 of them? Or what other models would be good choices for scheme runners?

  7. From researching, a lot of people like Ten Thunder Brothers as scheme runners. But I was wondering how people feel about Torakage. They seem to have a solid stat line a defensive trick and an offensive trick plus their damage seems pretty good if you are getting the :+fate in melee. Do you ever run them? If so, do you run one or two? Thoughts?

  8. I am a new player, but I was wondering is this truly as good as it seems? Do many of you make use of Oiran? If you do, what do you typically use them for? I have only played one game with Oiran. I took two and paired one with a Rail Worker and the other with a Ten Thunder Brother. The game was against my wife who is just learning (it was her first true game). So I didn't get much chance to use much strategy with them. My initial idea was to use them paired up with Torakage when I get them. The plan is to use the Oiran to help against shooting and charging on my Torakage while luring opponents towards the Torakage for them to then to charge. I also figure Torakage could make decent scheme runners. Thoughts?

  9. Is there a delay to the latest issue of Chronicles? The last issue was in April. I had expected #30 to be out mid June. That was the week of Origins so I figured it would be maybe a week late. But we are on the last day of June and no new Chronicles. I hope we get one soon. I really enjoy the TTB one shots, the short stories, and especially the new starting a faction on a budget series. Although they did two of these articles and then the last issue didn't have one. It looks like the author won't make his goal of discussing all 7 factions within a year unless they double up in two issues.

i hop ei can ask this here.

where can i get the three free rpg day books for through the breach? I am hoping i can get them in digital form.

    thanks in advance

drivethrurpg.com has them, but they are not free. You will have to pay for them.

  11. Just curious, anyone know the reasoning behind there being 4 Ten Thunders crew boxes that are $40? I know each of these are dual factioned giving Outcasts, Neverborn, Arcanists, and Gremlins a cheap $40 crew box. I just found it odd that not every faction has this cheaper entry point crew box. I know three of them are from the first book, but it isn't like they have less plastic or models than some of the other $45 boxes. Is it possible that it is a way to lure people into the faction hoping that they will then buy into the other faction of the master? What are your thoughts?

  12. So my store had received one Free RPG Day box and inside it was the following three miniatures for Malifaux.

    Malifaux Child - pink

    Bete Noire - translucent red

    Witchling Stalker - translucent red

While not anything outstanding, I did get the Malifaux child since I play Outcast. For 2 SS, it might be worth using sometimes for a bit of healing.

  13. I am still new to the game. I think his willpower bubble can be useful. His zero Finish the Cur can come in handy after he has damaged some lower wound enemies. His Augmented Leap means he is hard to pin down with his charge of 8, but his :meleehas a small range. He can help with condition removal by spending 3 SS to get his totem, but that requires you to keep your models within 4 of the trunk. I did pretty well with him in a recent tournament, but I found that he doesn't seem to quite know what he wants to do. Some of his abilities make him want to stay close to his crew if they are Freikorps, but others make him want to leap out ahead of them. I found that in my three games with him Lazarus was the one who was wrecking people. Von Schill just softened a few up.

  14. I only recently got into Malifaux. I played 40K and Frostgrave before Malifaux. The problem was that I was never inspired to paint much. Since starting Malifaux I have managed to paint minis within a week or two of purchasing them. I know my basing and painting needs work, but as a disclaimer I have scar tissue in the center of one of my eyes. This means that one eye only has peripheral vision and so I really have to rely on one eye to locate and process fine details. Anyways enough about me, let's get onto the minis!!! :D

Here is the Von Schill Hired Guns set minus the Steam Trunk. I didn't take any pics of it.

  15. I am new to the game, but I think there is the players to consider. How veteran are the players in your area? Do you have several new players? If you have a lot of new players in your area, then I think a fixed crew is a great idea. In my opinion, it allows for newer players to be competitive with what will probably be a lower model count to build their crews from than the veterans. Locking the veterans into just one list I think would also help improve their game. It would allow them to work with one crew in several situations where they may not be optimal. Which should increase their skills for when things are not going well. At the same time it allows the newer players to be more competitive as it could somewhat level the playing field.

My local area has a lot of new players. We had a tournament over the weekend with 10 participants. The majority of the people ran pretty much the same master and crew every game. I think maybe two players really were able to change up their lists drastically. One of which won the tournament. Some of the the players were even using loaner crews from the Henchman who was running the tournament. Due to my limited model count, I was only able to switch out one model from my crew. I played the Von Schill box with Lazarus and Angel Eyes replaced the specialist for two games.
