  1. I need some help getting this clear in my head. If a model takes an action that targets an enemy model that also has a required TN for it to work, does the defender flip immediately or do they wait until the attacking model meets the TN? I have read the rules several times, but I am not seeing anything on it. I could see it going either way. I just am not sure which way is correct. Is the casting considered a simple duel to achieve the TN and then an opposed after the TN is made or is it a straight opposed duel?

Lay the vinyl mat so the edges curl down rather than up and they flatten themselves out in about 15 minutes. At least the mat I got from playmats.eu does.

Yes, it is suggested to roll them up with the image on the outside so that they will flatten when you unroll them. It is also recommended to roll them from alternating ends each time to also help.

  3. I may have missed it, but I am a little unsure of how fast and slow work in regards to timing. When do these go away? For example, if I use an ability that gives another model either of these conditions and said model has already activated, does that mean that it doesn't impact this models next activation or does it retain the condition through to the next turn when it may activate again? I ask because I know from the rules a model cannot gain these and have them impact their activation when they are obtained during their activation.

  4. I am not sure where you are located, but for tokens, you could try one of the following:

    http://www.customeeple.com/product-category/malifaux/markerstokens/

    https://art-of-war-studios-ltd.myshopify.com/collections/malifauxcompatible

    https://www.etsy.com/shop/WidgetWizards?ref=l2-shopheader-name&section_id=17094043

I have some of the Plast Craft terrain and I really enjoy it. I have their colored desert theme and a desert themed mat designed specifically for Malifaux. It has all the layout lines for deployment and such on it. The mats can be found at https://matsbymars.com/ The Customeeple site also has some terrain designed for Malifaux, but I can't speak to the quality of it since I don't own any.

I hope this helps a bit.

  5. I can try to help.

#1 Yes the manual is just rules and no fluff. The core book has three masters a faction and the wave 1 models with pictures of their stat cards and upgrades.

#2 I recommend looking at the main Malifaux site and reading up on the two factions that you mentioned and then finding a master/crew set for each to start with.

#3 Shifting Loyalties is the only book with new rules per se. It contains rules for campaign play. Each book does however have fluff and stat cards for models released in that wave and sometimes story based encounters.

#4 Arsenal decks contain wave 2 stat and upgrade cards for the faction. General Upgrades contains all upgrade cards for each faction from core and Crossroads book. Shifting Loyalties deck is cards for those campaigns only.

#5 All Fate Decks are the same just cosmetic differences.

  6. For those of us who can't make it to GenCon, will some of these items be available on the webstore? Is there an actual sale during GenCon or is it more of making alternate sculpt models available in the online store during GenCon? I am curious as I am trying to figure what I want to get in order to get the Miss Deed. Of course if there are some sale prices, then I can buy more! I already have my August purchases figured out for my local store to get the alt Sybelle.

I'm chomping at the bit for it to be honest. So much so that I attempted to get the day off work to go and buy it! It didn't work so now I'll have to wait a few days instead... :-(

I feel your pain. I have been waiting for this book since I first found out about it. I cannot wait to get it and start running it.

You should probably stick with just outcasts for now, but when you eventually do choose a Pariah there's no wrong choice. Iron is better than Bone, (mainly because Terracotta warriors) but It really depends on your play style and the models available to you. Go with Bone if you plan to play/like the look of Resserectionists. Iron has quite a few Arcanists, but varies quite a lot in other factions.

The only other faction that I have is Ten Thunders. I have the Mei Feng box, Misaki box, Obsidian Oni, Ten Thunder Brothers, 1 Samurai, Oiran, and Mr. Graves. My wife plays Neverborn but none of her models are undead or construct except for the Mysterious Effigy. Based upon this, my out of faction choices are kind of wide open since I don't have anything to really start with except for Rail Workers and Mysterious Effigy for Iron.

I think the thing to remember with Levi is that with just him, two waifs and Ashes and Dust, you're already at six activations. You probably don't need any help with schemes because Ashes can easily do them itself/split. As well, I'm any given games you only need one to two models form CJ or LyM. With void wretches/winged plague/crooligans or a necropunk, you can easily get these schemes while still conserving points for anchors. Also, which Pariah do you plan to play?

I apologize, but I am not familiar with what CJ or LyM stand for. I am not sure which Pariah to play. I am not sure which is better or which has the advantage. For models outside of the faction I was trying to locate models that were both undead and construct. But there seems to only be 7 that aren't Outcasts. The Flesh Construct is the only one with my inexperience that seems like it would be worth taking. But again I am still very new and my only experience with masters is a few games with Mei Feng and about maybe 10 with Von Schill. I do have a decent amount of models though. Here is what I currently own for Outcasts excluding masters.

    Rusty Alyce

    Lazarus

    Wokou Raiders

    Vanessa

    Specialist

    Librarian

    Trapper

    Johan

    Freikorps Men

    Big Jake

    Abominations

    Steam Trunk

    Malifaux Child

    Hollow Waifs

  10. I am not sure about the trapper. He seems to be target number one when I  play with him. Of course, this is using a Von Schill crew since he is the only master that I have ready. I hope to have Leveticus finished by the end of the weekend.

I am wondering if Dead Outlaw might be a good choice for an anchor. They are 6 SS and seem like they might be able to hang around for awhile with their heal and Hard to Wound.

I had also considered Ronin. While they can't be charged, they seem like they would die faster than a Dead Outlaw.

    Thoughts?

  11. I just don't want games like The Other Side becoming their flagship game and reducing Malifaux. It is easy to continue support for Malifaux now because Other Side is not out. Should it release to larger sales figures, it could cause Malifaux resources to shrink. Companies want to sell more models and larger scale games require a consumer purchasing more minis than a skirmish game. That could shift the company's target audience to those who spend more at one time.

  12. Interesting replies. I must admit that I am surprised to see so many high cost models used as anchors. It would seem that having such high cost models used as anchors would hamper the rest of the crew. I had been contemplating models such as Dead Outlaws, Johan, and such. You know 6 to 8 point models to maximize my activations and Waif placement by having all my crew be options for anchors. But Ashes & Dust, Lazarus, Bishop, etc. are some pretty point intensive choices. Again I am new so I do not have a handle on the game let alone Leveticus, but I would think that 20 or less SS to build the rest of your crew and upgrades would hamper your abilities to run schemes that did not involve killing. Is this not correct?

You will most likely print all the components yourself and playter it with people younormally play boardgames with so living in a remote place shouldn't be a big hindrance.

I hope Wyrd continues down the boardgame path, it's a great way to expand.

They are a small company. I don't want them to overextend themselves. Each new product they release that is not related to Malifaux means less resources put towards Malifaux. I just hope they don't expend all this effort branching out to the detriment of Malifaux and Through the Breach. The Other Side already has me worried that they plan to go the large scale route and that is not something I have interest in. I have already been there and done that with Warhammer 40K. I am done with large scale. I like skirmish. However if there was a way to incorporate Other Side models into Malifaux by giving them a card for each game, then I might buy some Other Side items. Otherwise I will not even consider the game.

  14. Tamiya, I believe is the name of the company, they make military models and paints, has a line of tinted clear coats that can be used on clear plastic canopies and windshields to provide a colored tint. You could try using those. I have never used them personally, but I have seen pictures of it used to great effect.

  15. So what are the most cost efficient options for anchors? Are there any solid options for anchors within Outcasts? Do you normally find yourself going outside of Outcasts for anchors? If so, is the selection of undead or constructs better? I just picked up Leveticus and have not played with him yet. I am trying to figure out what models might be good options to use. Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

I, for one, am dying to get my hands on it!

Me too! Also it would appear that we are not that far away from each other. I am in the Kingsport, Bristol, Johnson City area of TN. About 90 miles away from you. We have a pretty nice community of Malifaux players here. There is currently about 15 or so of us. We just started having local tournaments in the last few months. The game is growing in our area. I even managed to get my wife into it!

  17. I am surprised to see that there is no discussion from people who went to Origins about the new core book. Or any discussion about TTB happening at all. I would of thought that at least a few people would have picked it up. I thought someone would have posted their thoughts, maybe a review of it, but I am not seeing anything on it. Is the amount of TTB players really that small? I can't wait to get my copy. It is the only thing holding me back from starting a game. I didn't want to start something if there were some significant changes to character creation or something.

  18. For purposes of some abilities such as the Hollow Waifs require them to be within LOS of a miniature costing 6 SS or more for the action to be usable. So this is my question, is the cost of the miniature based upon the cost listed on the card or the cost of the card plus any upgrades? The reason I ask is because Big Jake is an enforcer that costs 5 SS, however he can have one upgrade. This could make him cost 6 SS or more. Would this make him a viable anchor for a Hollow Waif?
