  1. Welcome to the Guild, great choice.

I started with just the Lady J box, along with three others who also just bought a starter box. We played some 35 soulstone games and it was a good way to get to grips with the system before expanding the army. We then added one or two other boxes so we were at 50 soulstones and expanded from there.

So I'd say buy one master box you like and play some games, then see where you want to go with the faction.

Also Vagrant Story - best Square game.

  2. Executioner is a beatstick, but certainly not a tank. Unless you can bully little units for healing you need to get value from his killing or threat of killing to make the most of him.

I'm not sure I would have run him prior to ready to work though, as I can see him just getting killed before achieving anything. Can recommend giving him another go now!

  3. The executioner. The threat range while holding onto the upgrade is great, especially as you can hide behind terrain midfield, pop around a corner and still charge. I usually don't have too many uses for crows either so the execute trigger is golden towards the end of the round when your opponents had is looking light.

  4. Great to read, sounds like it went well for you. I'm loving Swordfighter for Lady J, makes her into the character she was always meant to be. I may have to start taking Justice Unleashed a bit more it is sounding more and more useful the further I think on it.

Looking forward to hearing more of the league.

  5. I love running one with McCabe.

[0) Optional - use Queller to enchant executioner weapon]

    1) Throw the Badge of Speed at executioner, get 4" push.

    2) Use Nimble for a 5" walk (with 0 upgrade)

    3) Charge - or walk again and discard upgrade and charge.

That makes up to 24" of threat...hmmmm. Just be careful not to overextend - get that item back!

  6. Malifaux can be tough to start out as the core rules are deceptively simple, but the unit/upgrade rules on the cards are where the real power lies. Something you don't learn until you get hammered by them.

I started with Lady J and lost way more than I won for the most part of a year. She tends to only do one thing which makes her easy to counter by people who know you may be using her. Her two new upgrades in Broken Promises are very handy for her though. I always take Brutal Effigy with her - healing and card draw for damage and kills respectively combines well with what she does - stab and kill people. Watch out for armour and hard to kill - these really slow her down. She is best at carving up enemy minions with her minimum 4 damage to help you start to outnumber the enemy mid to late game. Don't be afraid to lose her late game unless eliminate the leadership is in the mix.

It's hard to give more specific advice without knowing what enemies you face and what missions are on the table. What factions are you usually up against and are you using GG 2017 or the core rulebook schemes/strats?

  7. I haven't played against Reva herself, but Lady J does indeed fare well against the undead (how about that). Take the Judge also. Both don't allow corpse markers to be placed and as noted earlier Lady J herself can easily nuke corpse markers while the Judge can take Flames of the Pit to really mess with the opponent. If you are worried about life drain take the Scales of Justice and it shouldn't be a big issue. Brutal Effigy will keep Lady J alive and take a few pine boxes to keep the big enemy hitters honest.
