  1. No, I prime the miniature black, then spray white primer over it from the top. I have also made a video on the subject a couple of years ago: https://youtu.be/9wLS8jRnijg

And please check out the rest of my videos, there might be other useful stuff in there too ;)

Indeed, I do not use much of the black and white gradient effect of the primer. But it might show through a bit, who who knows :)

I try to cover everything, even the black areas. But if there are areas which I cannot reach (for example underneath the bed of the Guilty figures), then this will be black already because of the first layer of primer.

  2. I guess with the "white-to-black" gradient you mean the two-color priming I did? Well in fact this does not add that much to the final paintjob in my opinion. My main reason for doing this is that I like to paint on white primer but also like to have black in those hard-to-reach areas.

So no, I do not apply thin layers on this primer. I always apply a good basecoat, two layers if necessary. Then about 2-3 layers of shading and 2-4 highlights.

  3. Thank you. I pay a lot of attention to overall contrast, more than smoothness. That combined with zenithal lighting instead of edge-highlighting probably yields the effect you describe. And I must say these Malifaux figures are very well suited for this style of painting.

Thanks again for the kind words.

If you have any questions about painting techniques or anything else I'm happy to answer them.

  4. Hey, some advice from me:

    • priminig: I always use a spray can, tried many brands over the years, Citadel works the best for me
    • brushes: W&N series 7 is what I use. If you're a beginner and don't want to spend too much money on brushes then try out the Rosemary & Co series 33 (I think they are called). Quality comes pretty close to W&N but they wear out a bit faster. Brush soap is also a must, add that to the shopping list.
    • paints: whatever works for you, I use both Vallejo model color and some GW paints. They only brand I had some problems with in the past is Scale75 and I also don't like the Vallejo Game Color washes that much.

    Hope this helps!
