  1. I just love Oni keyword, unfortunately I think Asami1 is pretty boring and Asami2 not well conceived.

The ability to play with flicker and a few exceptional models in keyword is what captures me (apart from aesthetics).

I am also a big fan of monks. I am finding myself to use a few models which did not see a lot of play with Shen1. High river monks with Shen2 are hitting like a freight train!

I was no longer using monks that much after all the errata, but with Shen2 I started enjoying them more and more. Chi manipulation is extremely good at any level

Last blossom has been my starting faction, I still use them occasionally, but not really into it. I feel they are too straightforward. Even Misaki2 being an obey bot did not improve my feelings

I do not like Foundry, not my playstyle...

Ancestor/Retainers is probably my favorite, both YanLo versions are extremely powerful and I like to play them both (yes even after errata).

Yokuo I love the models, but I cannot stand their playstyle, I wish it was different but...pass for me

Honeypot/Wastrel, not Asian looking so I am not considering them...

Definitely looking forward to Story keyword

  2. When I saw the model I was half expecting a rider for TT, but this is not even comparable.

Take the hit, but still only armor +1 and no HtK/HtW. Not exactly tanky...

What I like the most are his different movement shenigans, take the hit from 6" is by itself a neat reposition trick!

As Maniacal said, the Focused trigger is really good because it resolves before any generated action. Obey into an attack (Sniper shot, bow shot, Ototo charge, whatever) will let you use the Focused on that attack.

My lists go something like this:

    • Misaki, Fractured
    • Shang
    • Ototo
    • Jin Baccara
    • Thunder Archer
    • Thunder Archer
    • Katanaka Sniper
    • Terracotta Warrior

Won games off of Obeying Ototo for double focused and then burying him (and obey the sniper to get Focused +2 or something with the last AP). If your opponent has ways of getting fast or additional actions (more common than you'd think) then you project threat from the middle of their crew. Otherwise you can get a forward shadow marker off of a double walk bonus action from an Archer if you hit the tome trigger, or you can have Shang walk up twice if your opponent lacks range.

If you can hit something with Ototo on T1 then Jin makes it more likely you'll get initiative on turn 2, allowing Ototo to hopefully finish them and get Fast from Assassin. I've had Ototo unbury, use The Storm is Coming to teleport ~6-7" and then charged a model (keeping out of their engagement) then gone first next turn, charged them again and finished them off. We're talking two 3/4/5 crit strike attacks from a stone user at double :+flip to damage using Focused + Charge Through, followed by a third less impressive attack but the potential to get fast. It's not guaranteed as even at +1 you won't win initiative every time, but it can be a huge early swing and it is pretty safe given you can bury him if he gets in trouble (ideally after an obeyed charge if he's got his grit) and then heal him with Shang.

Fun combo with Jin is you unbury on whatever poor minion they've brought and send it back to their deployment (ideally it's one of those 8-10SS minions on T2 or T3 after they've spent a bunch of AP moving it up) then you get Misaki to bury Jin again and send that same minion back again on a later turn.

Sadly I believe the trigger adds focus AFTER the obey action is resolved.

So the model obeys, at the end of action drops a shadow marker and gets Focus (on injured if enemy model). Triggers are after the action unless stated otherwise

Out of curiosity, what lists are you all running with Misaki, Fractured?

    I was playing:

    Misaki fractured

    Shang

    Jin

    2 x torakage

    Katanaka crime boss

    minako rei

    Ototo

The list is not bad, but I realized playing vs Lucius or Zoraida what a master with Obey is supposed to do...and Misaki has no synergies with the rest of the army.

She just hopes a lot of shadow markers apear on the table to leverage a few abilities, but she is not contributing that much to the game apart from moving things around. Even for charging out of activation, I consider oyabun's command on Misaki1 more efficient (+1 threshold, but I can charge even if engaged)

  5. So, I have been trying out the new Misaki for the last 4 games, and sort of feels like I could have done better with just the older version.

Admittedly I have been using almost the same old list, + Jin (underwhelming to say the least), but...I don't know, I am probably missing out on something.

It feels very flat and boring just to spam obey. On top of that, it is very card hungry.

    Am I doing something wrong?

  6. Just to give my spin as an injection molding "expert", the process itself has size limitations.

Most Malifaux models are extremely good in proportions, but the consequence is they have tiny details, that are barely within the processing capacity.

Anyone remembers the braid of Misaki or those damn chains on the torakage M2e boxes?

Going even smaller to respect the scale might induce very high scrap rate (part ruptures upon ejection or non filled parts) or might require special tooling which is expensive and vastly beyond the scope of plastic toy molding.

This is also why other big miniature producers use totally out of scale details like huge weapons and so on. To keep it simple on the molding side

Wyrd decided to keep it cool, but probably had to compromise on scaling

  7. Well the first point you already mentioned, skip on Summoners. They can offset games.

My main thing when building at 35, no support pieces. No healing or nice to have. It is a tight format, so schemers and beaters and a few SS to spare. In most of my 35 lists I try to keep 5-6 SS. Already like this with a master, beater around 10 points, two scheme runners and maybe another piece I find this is it. Also rarely there are point to spare for upgrades

There is a small contradiction in your post :)

"Pieces that did not see table time before will remain in on the shelf"

    And

"And yes, yasunori is terribly overpriced now. I will be using dawn serpent now as fast versatile schemer. "

So it actually worked xD the snake is on the board now

That's fair but... I always used the little dragon, only for a different role. Now I am promoting it to the former spot of Yasunori ;)

  9. As always, the nerfs seems to follow the general rule of "rounding down" instead of a general balance.

Pieces that did not see table time before will remain in on the shelf.

I was hoping for some more changes in both directions.

And yes, yasunori is terribly overpriced now. I will be using dawn serpent now as fast versatile schemer.

  10. If possibile I would run statistics.

The always hired pieces in competitive play, I would review carefully. The never hired ones, also. Same goes for upgrade, strategies and most importantly I would look at entire keywords/masters. I would absolutely avoid getting carried away by feeling, community complaints and stuff. basing analysis on facts and numbers.
