  1. ALLISON DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADE!!!!!!

Through the Breach models coming across into fully fledged Malifaux minis! SIGN ME RIGHT THE FRICK UP.

Those of you speculating on the other reporter with the black hair being a henchman/enforcer, if you haven't read it, go pick up Through the Breach: In Defense of Innocence (Penny Dreadful). She's Allison Dade, importante reporter NPC for the story. :) She's got stats in there and such, so you can ramp up your speculations from there.

She's the one with the writing pad if I didn't describe her well enough. XD

  2. While now I've got some great advice for Colette's wood bases... I've ALMOST finished my set for Molly's box and a pair of Doxies. The Absinthe sign was a test run to see if it worked, but it's WAAAAAY too big and my rapid growth league starts this saturday, so I probably wont remake it for a while.

I don't know if I want to make them more gray or more brown yet... I kind of like where they are, (minus that I need to add more flocking)... If anyone is up for giving their opinion, the main crew color is going to be pastel purple and the base edges will be repainted at some point.

  3. Out of what you have there, Molly and Kirai are both also summoners (not as intense as Nicodem, but still up there), so you'd end up inclined to buy more models eventually. By SS count, Kirai is probably not going to be a good choice here since her box set is ITTY BITTY in terms of SS, so you'll probably end up buying a decent number of things to start filling out points. I can't comment on Yan Lo or Tara personally, but from reading their tactica on Pull My Finger, they seem less needy for other additions.

Also, totally go read Pull My Finger's tactica pages for masters you're interested in. Most articles will talk about models that are good additions to the master and why, so you can start to reason out if you need something based on how you want to play OR just see how long the list of "you should get these too" are and compare. Link A Dink for that is here

Malifaux is also one of the few games in which you don't have to buy a lot to get started OR to play for a decently long time. If you have a local group that plays (at an LGS or otherwise), definitely talk to them about what kinds of events they're running so you can get a count of how many SS you'll need to play a game. There's a list of the max Soulstones in a box set here: Link A Dink  to help with that end of the decision.

Jeez Luise, now you're just making mini-Misakis, they all have Stalking?  Mad mobility?  But utterly useless in combat?  Lol.  At least I hope they aren't as useful as Misaki in combat at that rate, then my world would be shattered.

I imagine they'd absolutely suck in combat, but just impose some negative flip on enemies or a positive flip to friendlies in a bubble around them. Something obviously useful but can be overcome, you know?

So they keep missing getting murdered for snooping just barely, but every bad guy in the world finds them irritating, like DC's Lois Lane

I'm also a fluffy player so I actually took the misstep model and modelled in a skirt and hair ribbon and made her an un-official showgirl. My conscience is clean ;)

That was entirely the reason I was willing to look into Hank! lol Miss Step seemed easy enough to add some frills to. I know this isn't the Miniature Matter's forum, but if you have pictures of it, I'd be super thrilled to see it. :D

Thanks for all the quick answers everyone! The league I'm joining starts next week so I was expecting to have to miss out on a weeks worth of points waiting for an answer.

  6. "Sir! Ma'am! Comment?" - Reporter's shoving camera's and microphones into your face as a distraction from what's actually happening. Noooo Lady J is totally fine, that Gremlin definitely did NOT just wipe her off the board behind me. She's clearly just stepping aside to let her Death Marshal's do their job, and they are just fabulous aren't they? How do you feel towards the Death Marshals and their brand of justice? *cliche awkward smile and laugh* Comment on that? Sir? Ma'am?

Like those crowded scenes in movies where every reporter in the world has gone and shoved themselves right into the person they want to talk to in a heaving mass. Maybe even make it a bubble when in engaged range with another reporter model to represent them ganging up on the model to ask questions and get answers.

Or maybe "Get the Scoop", push 3" towards enemy model if that model is moved via walk, charge, or push actions. (A model being placed would represent them slipping out of the reporter's sight to me.) While within 3" of target enemy model they give +CA to something else?

Or maybe Get the Scoop would just be them choosing a model at the start of the game to get pushes towards said model to represent them following one guy because he's their only lead on a GREAT story, (Maybe even allow them to push out of engaged when engaged with the model they've chosen to represent the reporter slipping away before the target can stop them from getting their story?)

I'm getting carried away. I LOVE THESE MODELS.

  7. Resurrecting this over a month later..

Starting Colette as well soon and I had a quick question...

Is Hank actually really good for her crew? I prefer to stick to themes and fluff only (losing with grace every time, of course), so I've only bought her box set and some coryphee (soon Angelica... SOOOOOOON) for the time being and I'm a bit nervous about being as flimsy as a wet paper bag on the table.

  8. Looks good nonetheless! :) I think the wall is coming together nicely. I'm pretty sure having to start and then let things dry is just part of sculpting, so no worries.

May I ask what's on the guy's neck? Not the collar, the white stuff.

This is a discussion about harassment, which happens. Sharing the experience might help us learn from it.

People who don't encounter won't really help us learn, and can be seen as dismissive. While it is great that many people don't encounter sexism in their communities, that fact is not particularly pertinent to the discussion about the sexism that does happen.

That's why one side, in this particular discussion, does get more weight.

    THIS.

I actually do love that there are people who can speak up and say they haven't experienced things that I have or others have (I think I had a way too long paragraph about it in my most recent post?). I'm happy that there are places where people feel safe. But, facts are that anything can happen anywhere and it's good, even for people who are comfortable where they are, to be aware of other situations. Everything we learn about each other and each other's experiences is a chance to grow and improve our relationships with people everywhere.

The only reason some people's commentary on things being fine for them is treated as anecdotal is because, in a good number of cases, most of us who have experienced negative situations have been told that it doesn't happen because X person's place is fine.

I notice that "girl" has been used as a synonym for "woman" in this thread and yet no one objected to this sexist usage.  Why?

I use girl because, to me, it's friendlier and less aggressive to use less formal language if possible. I find people respond poorly to formality in sensitive topics. Until I feel like it's necessary to speak firmly, I stick to the gentler terms.

Just for my information, where do you live exactly? I have a hard time understanding why any bystander would tolerate this kind of behaviour, especially boob grabbing or ass slapping (this is very offensive in my book). .. SNIP SNOP ..Nevertheless, I have been told too many stories of the same kind by too many different women that I can easily believe that there are some assholes out there that can do very shitty things.

I've lived in five different states in the US and I've been going to conventions in those states and others for a good number of years now. In all of these locations, I've had some level of negative experiences. No, I pinky swear I don't find the dirtiest store I can and go snooping there. (In fact, the dirtiest part of my current store is this one woman who came in three weeks ago and dropped such a massive load that the bathroom has just never been the same... No matter how much bleach, it's tainted forever. FOREVER.) In a good majority of my own situations, no one had noticed what happened or didn't even realize it was a problem in the first place, in the same way that a good number of people have gone "I've never seen that before, what are you talking about, that doesn't happen" or "but isn't that GREAT? Someone thinks you're attractive!".

But even when people are witness to things or are informed about something that happened, sometimes, they've already made their own opinions. I've been told a lot of "get over it" and "it could have been worse, so drop it" type things over pointing out things that bothered me. I know other girls who have been told that they're lying or that it's natural because "boys are boys" and "boys can't stop thinking about their weiners, you know! haha!". Among other things.

As I said earlier though, the responses closely aligned with the phrase "Where is that? That doesn't happen here" or "YOUR place is bad" tend to not be beneficial ( I know that you specifically didn't intend to offend with the question, this is more of a blanket statement to hopefully help others understand and approach the topic differently). There isn't a location where no bad things can ever happen. There's always the chance that someone, somewhere in the room, can do anything. There's always a chance that one person is actually kind of a douchecanoe in certain situations.

Be proud of where you are being free of the problems others have experienced, but never stop being aware that it could happen. I, and I'm sure others, are extremely happy to know that some of you haven't experienced what we have, just don't let that block you from understanding and being honestly aware that there's always a chance of bullhonkey happening. Just because bad things can happen, doesn't mean you can't still have fun. :)

Sniiiiip ~Just making a off colored joke about a girl sitting in his lap is not sexism. It is probably his way of flirting. Not very well. And I can understand that you would be awkward or even a bit disgusted about it. But that doesn't make it sexism. ~ Sniiiiiiiip

On the subject of "Awkward Flirting", yes, that could have been his way of trying. However, saying that falling into his lap on accident would be "bad for you, good for me!" doesn't really... feel quite like "I'd like to take you on a date, Girl I've Met, and get to know you". Mostly the "bad for you" part. If you want to flirt, putting in that the target of your flirting wouldn't enjoy being closer to you is a bit.. uh... well, it makes most people cringe, for lack of wanting to go into detail as to what everyone close to me thought when they overheard the phrase and looked in my direction. Maybe it was a flirt in poor taste, but when I cringed and recoiled and my boyfriend immediately put on his Angry Eyebrows, the guy kept going with it and talking awfully loudly about it being great for him. An entire room full of CCG players, three full 8 player D&D tables, and two full 8 player Pathfinder tables, as well as the working staff don't need to know how much pleasure you'd get if a girl fell on your lap and how much she'd not like it. I think Cegorach pretty much nailed the whole thing though.

I'm gonna go ahead and add that being "held sacred" is just as frustrating. If I go into a store once a week and at minimum one person in the course of my first 30 minutes there points out how special I am for being there, it's not making my day any better. Being "held sacred" has led to plenty other issues, such as being treated like absolute garbage when asked not to be treated that way OR, the greatest moments of my life, being told that I'm a slut for "leading someone on" because they were nice to me and a few weeks later, I didn't ask them out on a date. Also, being treated as a sacred creature of legend is a form of sexism IF it's based on gender, not the worst level of it, but still is it by definition.

Which is why I say that it's more of a matter of awareness. Obviously there ARE girls who like being treated special (at one point, I thought it was awesome, until the slut incident), and by all means, totally continue as such. BUT it takes very little to figure out who's enjoying that kind of behavior and who isn't. Even the polite "I don't like this, but just smile and nod" facial expression can be pretty easily seen through.

It also requires all of us, if we are uncomfortable, to speak up more.

I wont say I did the right thing by not speaking up. I should have. I talked my boyfriend out of losing his shit. I should have let him speak if he wanted to. I should have done a lot of things that I didn't.

Yes it is. The implication is sex - she's not sitting in his lap to read Dostoevsky.

    Snip Snap

Would you be OK with someone else using your partner that way?

Thank you for replying! It's really good to know that I can go offline and there are still people around who speak up on the behalf of others. I actually got kind of used to opening my big mouth, writing essay length posts to try and politely explain or discuss things (I am so sorry to all you slow readers), and being harassed off of forums. I expected to wake up to a ban or eighteen pages of "UGH, YOU PEOPLE. RUINING MY HAPPY LAND WITH YOUR SHENANIGANS!".

Okay, I think I've written a college paper on this at this point. Lemme just.. uh... *slowly clicks submit reply*

    tl;dr: how can I help?

I personally consider this stuff to be the real problem, even if they're the most minor of issues.. snipped! As for the zero tolerance stuff; well, there's no excuse for that.  That's just straight up "you wouldn't do that to anyone else here" levels of crossing a line and if it happens, well, they don't end well, but they need to be dealt with.

I think LunarSol pretty much answered that in their post (snipped it here, but definitely go back to it if you'd like to read it).

Being aware and paying attention so you DO catch it when someone could really use a hand in a crap situation or just being kind to them afterwards are all you really can do at the end of the day. By being kind, I don't mean like... bowing for someone and opening every door and going way out of your way all silly like. I mean just, say, example here, when I've been in a group of people and one completely ignores me, having just one person bring the conversation back and pointedly look at me for a response is one of the best feelings. Or when someone makes a buttawful comment, someone else even just gives the offender a look (not a violent look, just a "Come on, dude..."). I know it's EXTREMELY hard to figure out what's happening when sometimes (there are a few times where me and BF get home and I comment on someone having said something or done something that he didn't even notice), but knowing that someone will notice what happened somewhere in the room 75% of the time is lovely. No one is 100% Ever Vigilant. It'd be unfair to expect such.

Just like it's the little things that hurt, it's equally the little things that help the most.

I just hope that maybe some of what I've posted in this thread helps. :)

  12. Just two weeks ago I went into the store I've been going to for 3 years and got a comment about it being "welcome" if I fell into a guy's lap and it'd be "bad for you, but great for me!" after I said excuse me and apologized for causing extra distress in a crowded room just to walk by while my boyfriend (who's hand I was holding at the time) was not even half a foot away from me.

While that's not the worst of things I and other women have experienced, it's those tiny things that make it really uncomfortable to even say the most mundane of things. I laughed at the time, trying not to make a big deal of it and take it as "a compliment", but it still made it hard to get up and go walking by again for fear of actually falling onto this guy. And of course, then my BF was mad for about an hour or two until the guy left the store. Adding to that, now our entire D&D table was awkward and uncomfortable about bringing up anything risque on the off chance this guy ran off his mouth again (he's not known for keeping his face closed and he commented on it again to a few other people VERY loudly).

On almost every occasion that's "nerd related", I have a majority of people ignore me and turn to talk to my BF or ask him rules when, not even a minute prior, he's explained that he's new to the subject and doesn't know it as well as I do. OR, the subject shifts from the actual awesome geeky conversation to "Wow, you're like a unicorn". Then of course, there's the weird looks from across the room. I've been boob grabbed and ass slapped in other locations, had people flat out question if I even knew what I was talking about, tell me to stop talking so "the boys can talk" despite being the LITERAL store designated rep for the product being discussed, have experienced the awkward commentary of "needing to clone you so that everyone can have you" or being asked to sit on someone's lap.

Little things add up and while from the outside they don't seem "That bad", they are.

  13. Clip on Particle Board Tie. I can dig it. The wall looks like it's coming together great. Using cardboard for sturdiness is a great idea.

BTW, That Razorspine Rattler looks phenomenal. But above all, that blue tack idea is BRILLIANT. I have a gray carpet under my table (as you can imagine, finding parts of mini's is almost impossible) and I'm definitely using that idea to keep things together.

  14. Thanks for the advice guys! I'll eventually have to mosey down to one of the only Hobby shops here that have realistic water. Right now I'm just using layer after layer of Modge Podge Gloss Varnish, and that's just getting frustrating. xD

About that two part resin for bar counters... would it possibly work as wood stain/lacquer for some fancy Collette bases? Or would it just be better to buy real wood stain?

  15. Hey peoples!

Recently started up painting and what not again in these past few months after a decently long hiatus, and I thought I'd share for some feedback and BECAUSE IT'S FUN, JAN.

First up, Gremlin Bases. My BF is the one who's working on the actual models for these but I had a real strong pull towards working on the bases a little while ago. I want to say they're finished, but I think I'm going to add more flock and plantlife? Does anyone know a cheaper way to make something like 2k water with out buying the Water Effects stuff from a hobby shop?

    2016-03-19.jpg

The set is for the Explosive Solutions box set. I took this picture before remembering that I miscounted and had to make one more base.

    Thoughts? :)

  16. Honestly, I've found that most crew boxes are more of the baseline for the master that's in it and from there you can add and modify. I remember the Warmahordes boxes were just awkward in play because they tried to hard to give you a taste of everything you could do rather than direct you as to what your group is MEANT to do, but the Malifaux ones are themed well enough that you can really get a hold of the game and the way that your chosen master works really quickly.

I'd recommend you get a box that interests you and try it first, THEN make adjustments as you want.

You also can't buy single masters (you'd have to go to Ebay or trade on the forums or some other not store means to get one alone) and most henchmen also don't come solo (pretty sure it's all henchmen, tbh...). Which can be a huge deal when you do start expanding.

Ex. My Molly box is being expanded into mostly Belles because I love the theme and I used to run Seamus some years ago, but the Henchman Belle (Madame Sybelle) only comes in Seamus' box. I have to buy his box to get her BUT doing so also gets me a set of three other models I need to run Molly with Belles anyways. AND, while that builds on the one master I want to run, it ALSO allows me to now branch out and try Seamus for the hell of it when Molly gets boring.

  17. Salutations Wyrdos!

I'm Talia (Tali is fine, or my username, which ever is easiest!) and I've been stalking nosing about the forums since... ohgosh, 2010? 2009? Figured now is a good time to finally join, say hello, and get involved in the community properly!

About me... I've been playing Malifaux since first edition (I still have my poorly painted metal Seamus box set... although I recently broke his bag off his arm) and I've also been on and off running TTB campaigns when I find people around the area interested in trying it out. I took a long break from Malifaux when I had a ton of personal issues to take care of and just this past month got started buying way too many plastic minis. The last thing I was doing before I had to break was running tournaments and leagues in Idaho with a friend while DESPERATELY waiting for Molly's metal mini to come out and now she's all grown up and in plastic.. *sniffsniff* I just got my boyfriend into Malifaux through a TTB campaign last year (Hi, Kaalamity!) and now he's bought minis to come to the tabletop miniature side of the show.

I think that's about it? Maybe? Feel free to ask me stuff and say hi! :D
