  1. Hmmm, interesting, interesting.  Here are my predictions:

    1. Neverborn (obvs)

    2. Initial reaction is Guild, but I could also see Outcast. Still sticking with Guild, though.

    3. Ressers.  Perhaps the Gorgon? Surprised I hadn't seen anyone suggest this

    4. I'm thinking Arcanists on this one. Silhouette kinda feels like it would be someone that aligns with either Raspy or Marcus. Feels very primal to me.

    5. Gremlins based on size and (of course) the picture earlier in the post.

    6. 10 Thunders. I feel like this character, thematically anyway, might tie into Sidir.

    7. Outcasts.  Mostly because that's all that's left, but I could definitely get a Outcast-y vibe from that shadow.

I get why people might feel that new masters will risk cuddling the old ones, but considering that you tend to build at the table there are so many factors that go into play. You have to consider your opponent's faction, the available schemes and strats, and the terrain.  It's difficult to say what will happen in the end.

For  now, just be happy that you've got a model coming when you Through the Breachers play through the Nythera campaign.

@BewareTheYalcrab - "After a year with Malifaux, I haven't had a problem yet." - Oof, that's like saying it's been a quiet shift before you get home! I hope that doesn't come back to haunt you!

I'm a huge fan of pinning models. I did have the same reaction though: All three have tiny contact points and may be challenging to get a paperclip sized pin into. If people don't have one yet, a good set of pin drills from a hardware store like Lee Valley (or better ones from model suppliers) plus modeling wire (much thinner usually, slightly less durable sadly) and you can pin almost anything.

Heh, after I posted I thought to myself: Now how long until something breaks and I get to stick my foot into my mouth.  Luckily, everything's still fine.

They said they're not in stock with their "distributors" yet, but there's one box reserved when it comes in. I dunno.

I'm not bothered by ordering through the store, because it's a good place run by decent folk and some of our little group play Malifaux up there weekly (4 of us playing and a new guy with a Latigo box watching on Saturday). By the same token I'm a little disappointed, because I could've paid full price to Wyrd during Black Friday just like I paid full price to my FLGS and I could've been at least trying out Hamelin with all his synergy themed models now. Oh well.

Typically, a brick and mortar store will place orders with a distributor for how much of whatever product they wish to place on their shelves. Once a distributor receives said product (my understanding is typically prior to the release date), then they hold onto the product until the release date hits. Once a product has hit this release date, then it is "released" to the brick and mortar stores. Now, and this is understandably confusing, a release date doesn't mean that the product is on the shelves. Stores are not supposed to put product on their shelves until the "street date". That is the date they are allowed to start selling said product.

There are a lot of things (primarily in the production/overseas shipping side) that can delay product from being on the shelves at your store on the street date. Probably too many to list here. As someone who deals with some of the larger distributors, please try not to take out too many of your frustrations on your retail staff. They are at the mercy of when the product actually arrives before they can even do anything. All they can do is check to see if the product has been shipped by the distributors and not much else. If they are a store that actually takes preorders and orders accordingly, then that sounds like a pretty, damn fine store.

That third one looks like it would be really difficult to pin.

The bit of ground that he's standing on looks like it might be an okay contact point. At the worst, you could probably carefully drill at a little bit of an angle if you feel the need to pin it.

I generally don't pin my models. I'm just super careful with how I transport. After a year with Malifaux, I haven't had a problem yet.

You can just paint on burlap texture with a little bit of subtle color shift and cross hatching :)

But yeah, obligatory Oogie Boogie comment, +like, yadda yadda.

Do the good work Wyrd, some of the finest models on the market as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I was considering that as a possibility. I'm an okay painter, not a great one, so I may have to practice some before the actual models come in. Honestly, the desire for the texture was more out of my need to be lazy and efficient. Would have been great to drybrush quickly and be done. I'll be good with them.  Gonna have fun painting those guts!

Even if I don't end up going with a burlap look, they still look great. I only got into Malifaux about a year ago, so I never had a chance to get the metal models (also, I'm just more comfortable with plastic). No complaints on this end as I'm happy they're coming back out.

Awesome! Really wish there were bugs coming out instead of guts though

Should be an easy enough mod.  Greenstuff into the guts to smooth it out and add the bugs.

I really dig the design.  Was hoping for a more burlap texture for dry-brushing, but they still look so awesome.

  7. Hey everyone!

We're going to be running a charity tournament at the Coliseum of Comics located in the Fashion Square Mall on Sat., Nov 14th at 3pm.  Entry is any 2 critically needed goods such as canned goods, dried foods, diapers, etc., which will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank.  You can check out their website for a list of other needed goods here:  http://www.foodbankcentralflorida.org/site/PageServer?pagename=AboutUs_OurPrograms_FoodDrives#.VgwvrpdUXTF

    Prizes (in store credit):
    1st - $25
    2nd - $15
    3rd - $10

    Rules:

This is going to be a 2-Round, 35SS game following standard rules.  However, anyone who brings in additional items to be donated can use them during the game for various actions.  Trade in the item in order to:

    - Add a "+" to any flip (max 3 times per flip)
    - Add a "-" to opponent's flip (max 3 times per flip)
    - Reflip any one card (no max)
    - Substitute as a soulstone

We're hoping to get a lot of people out to this, so if you live in the area, tell your friends.  Let's prove that good things can happen in Malifaux once and a while!

  8. Hey guys,

Sorry this post is later than usual.  Things have been crazy here.

So, the big Nythera event is coming up.  I just want to throw out that anyone who wants to challenge me (Alex) at the store, you are welcome to do so during any of our scheduled events or open play sessions starting Sep. 5th or later.  I'll be representing Neverborn.  We've got a handful of guys here that play different factions, so there's bound to be someone willing to take on other factions as well.  Remember, every Saturday at 3pm is Malifaux at Fashion Square Mall.

Also, as September 5th is the first Saturday of the month, we've got a special scenario that we've cooked up for you.  I call it "Late to the Party".  Details below.

    Late to the Party

Today is National "Be Late for Something Day!"  No, I'm not kidding.

The event today will be a standard 35SS build following typical guidelines... with one exception.  At any point after the 3rd round, for any reason whatsoever, you can field a single non-master figure at a cost of 10SS or less that doesn't count toward your initial build cost (no upgrades attached) as long as the figure matches the chosen crew faction. As an additional bonus, you don't need to disclose this figure until it is revealed.  The figure will start within 6" of any border.

  9. Hey everyone,

Here's our Malifaux schedule in August.  Just like in July, the 1st Saturday of the month is an original event.

Aug. 1st - Free original event: "We Struck It Rich!"

Great news!  You've just come across a huge deposit of soulstone.  The bad news, so did someone else.  Now, you're not just gonna let those varmints get their greasy mitts on those precious stones, are you?

    New strategy: "Bountiful Claim"

Place a 30mm marker at the center of the board.  This is the deposit of soulstones.

At anytime during the game, if you are within engagement range of the deposit of soulstones your Master or Henchmen can take the "Resourceful Crewmember" action. A figure can only use this action once per round.  This action can only be taken 4 times total (by both crews combined) during the game.

    (1) Resourceful Crewmember - Gain 1 soulstone.

At the end of the game, if your crew has at least 2 more non-peon models within 6" of the deposit of soulstones than the other crew, then you have successfully claimed the soulstones.  For each "Resourceful Crewmember" action taken during the game, this strategy is worth 1 less point.

    Aug 8, 15, 22, 29 - Open Play

Look forward to seeing you there!

  10. Welcome to Malifaux. I live in the Orlando area and have played off and on since the game started. Kissimmee is over 100 miles of toll road round trip for me so I don't get down that way though.

Well, you're always welcome to come into the Fashion Square location on Saturdays if you'd like to meet some new players.

As far as our Kissimmee location, if you're fine with tons of traffic, I'd just suggest taking I-4 West to Vineland, and then taking that to 192.  Turn left and they aren't too far down on your left after that.  I don't know the exact mileage, but at least you'd avoid tolls.

  11. Hey guys!

So here at the Fashion Square Mall we're still going to be blocking out time for Malifaux on Saturdays at 3pm.  The only Saturday we won't be running it will be on 7/11 due to another conflicting gaming event.

July 4th - We're running a game this day with a custom scheme to replace "Hold the Line".  We call it "Proudly Wave Your Flag".

    New rules:

"This scheme starts the game revealed.

Place a scheme marker in the center of the board.

Designate a non-peon member of your crew as your flag-bearer.  This model gains the action: (2) CREW PRIDE: This model raises their crew's flag high and waves it brazenly in the face of their opposing crew, ignoring all potential danger.  This action can only be taken within 6" of the center marker.

For every turn after the first that the flag-bearer uses the "Crew Pride" action and survives the round, their crew earns a point for the turn.  This scheme can only earn a total of 3 points total."

    July 18th - Open Play

    July 25th - Open Play

As always, you can check out our events calendar either on our website or on Facebook. Good gaming everyone!

  12. Hey guys,

Just wanted everyone to know that we're still running Malifaux through June at the Coliseum of Comics in the Fashion Square Mall.

Many of our dedicated players are still really new at the game, so this is still an opportunity to get to know everyone and try out some new crews.  The general reaction to running this game has been really positive, so we're hoping to see more growth as things move along.

If anyone is looking for a great group of players and plenty of space, we hope to see you here!

  13. Hey, guys!  So, demos have been going pretty well with some of our 40K regulars giving Malifaux a shot and playing around with their first crews.  We still want to keep things light and fun while players get used to the game.

Here's the tournament schedule for May.  All of them will be 30SS games and the Strategies are pre-set.  Everything else will follow normal setup.  May 2nd is Free Comic Book Day, so we won't have anything run that day.

    May 9th, 3pm, Reckoning

    May 16th, 3pm, Reconnoiter

    May 23rd, 3pm, Turf War

    May 30th, 3pm, Stake a Claim

All of these will be at the Coliseum of Comics @ the Fashion Square Mall.

  14. We're going to be running demos of Malifaux at the Coliseum of Comics - Fashion Square Mall on April 4th, April 18th, and April 25th @ 3pm each day.

This will be a stripped down version of the game teaching the basics.  This is a perfect opportunity to get into this awesome game. We'll be supplying the figures, cards, and markers.  All you need to do is bring yourself.

You can check out our schedule here: https://www.facebook.com/coliseumofcomicsfsm/events

  15. Thanks for the tips!

I had been suggesting the same things for my players as they were deciding on crews. From what I could tell in the book, it seemed that factions generally had similar play styles, but all the masters were different enough to keep things interesting.

I wanted to take a trip down to Kissimmee, but unfortunately I work Saturdays.  A few players in the area had mentioned that it was difficult to make it down there, so that's why we also settled on that day for games.

Once I get into the swing of things, I definitely wanted to get registered as a Henchman.  So far, I've enjoyed everything I've seen out of this game and company.

  16. Hey!

So, I'm going to be running Malifaux at the Coliseum of Comics (Fashion Square Mall location) starting in April, and I thought it'd be a good opportunity for me to see how the online community is.  So far, I've found a lot of useful information.

I'm still learning the game (and have yet to play yet  , although I'm running through a test-game this Monday).   We run a pretty decent group of about 8-12 players for Warhammer 40K, but some of them had been itching for something different and a little easier on the wallet.   Although we didn't carry it at the time, I started looking into Malifaux and the backstory really intrigued me.  After stocking some available crew boxes and getting some books, I explained the general concepts to some of the players and without playing or demoing a single game, I've got 4 other players who have already bought their first crew boxes and rulebooks and are raring to go.

We're planning on running a few demo games for the first month before getting heavily into tournaments.  It'll allow all of us to get used to the rules, suss some things out, and get our models ship shape.  It was the same case for 40K about 2 years ago and that's been working out pretty well for us.

If anyone out there has any tips or things to avoid based on experience, I'd be glad to hear them.  I've gone through the rulebook once and have been making my way through Crossroads.  I'm not overly worried about running games, but am just interested in what anyone is willing to share

    Thanks!
