  1. I keep seeing this over and over again. (Mainly with Tara but sometimes with other masters)

Players say I choose to fail my simple duel. And then I point out the attacking friendly models call out box. Resolves the issue just fine. But I keep seeing it in games and in some battle reports.

Whenever two friendly models are engaged in an Opposed Duel, the defending friendly model may choose to lose the duel. Before any cards are flipped, the Defending model may choose to relent. When this happens, the Attacker flips as normal, and the Defender flips no cards, it is instead assumed that the Defender tied the Attacker's final duel total, without any suits.

I also see that people don't say they are relenting before flipping the attackers card. And then if it's low or high they go,,,uhh I'm relenting. You must declare you are relenting when you declare the action and before cards are flipped.

Any one else notice these small things?

  2. To further complete this answer.

Page 32 after damaging explicitly says it happens after step 5.

Page 33 damage (and killing) happen during step 5

Drawn to Pain: After failing an opposed Df duel but before suffering damage, push this model 4” towards the Attacker. Happens before damage is flipped since this trigger explicitly says when to do it.

Explosive Demise 1: All models within 2 suffer 1 damage !when! this model is !killed! (not sacrifced).

This is after it suffers damage and is reduced to 0 wounds. Killed page 46

    And finally from the faq

Q: If a model has an “After Damaging” Trigger which allows it to push/move and it kills a model with Explosive Demise, can it use its Trigger to push/move away from the model it killed before taking damage from Explosive Demise?

A: No. Explosive Demise happens when the model is killed, which would be during Step 5 of the duel process (Determine Success, Core Rulebook pg. 33) and After Damaging Triggers occur after Step 5 (Core Rulebook pg. 32). (1/1/15)

    The longest answer.

  3. To beat a dead horse alive.

When you declare an action you see if any abilities or conditions or effects modify that model/action. Ie a disengaging strike or one of Jack daws curses etc. Page 37. So if the wendigo is next to the ritual marker his cast would get +2 when casting a Ca action for instance December's curse. But if raspy was next to the marker and wendigo casts her spell he is not in the +2 cast range nor is raspy taking an action for a stat modifier to apply (posted earlier)

This same concept is applied to a Malifaux child.

  4. Maybe i shouldn't have asked Icemyn if he looked in people bags apparently Competitive play is stabbing all the opponents so you win by default   I get that is is tongue and cheek and how quickly "Scouting the field" can turn into information.

    Welcome to the slippery slide...
    When competitiveness kills the fun.
Been there, done that - no, thanks.

But this is very true also. Game is supposed to be fun and Enjoyable. Even when losing. if your opponent knows you only have Raspy and the Brings nix with hollow in a viks list you might feel a little slighted. since Arcanists are not known for all the blasts and nix with hollow in viks list seems out of place.  So you could see Where people might have and issue with Hyper-competiveness that you are bringing to the table. I have never faced you and maybe you are a great guy but the Snapshot picture that we got is and Was "I peek in Bags"  Which Shines a very poor light upon you.  In some peoples minds what you are doing is the same thing as what icemyn posted (not to the extreme as Stabbing people) but just feeling like "That is Wrong".

Side Note I hope To see You at Adepticon. I Think i would actually enjoy playing you. Bring that "A" Game i plan on winning. Doubt i will. But i plan on it.

  5. ... besides the best part about it is that your opponents might not know you did it - you just keep it to yourself and make a mental note. How can you just willfully handicap yoursef knowing that your opponent only brought Marcus?

Cause in a fair and balenced world the only knowledge you should have is that he is Playing Arcanists. and then you build your crew to strategies and schemes. not having the for knowledge that your opponent only has Marcus. Its not a willful handicap, its trying to act....Honorably. Dont get me wrong if some one was walking around saying they are the best marcus player around and always wins playing marcus and Marcus marcus marcus. then sure at that point you have every right to bring an i hate marcus list.

    Welcome to competitive play ;)

what i garnered from the other thread is that Icemyn Won the Avatar last year with levy. which seems to sparked this "Mech Ryler" Phenomenon. So i think he knows how to play competitively. so

@icemyn Peak in anyones bags? Wander around noting who was playing what? and then decided that your generic list of "Mech Ryler" would just win you the tournament?

  6. Damage flips are often the result of a duel. They do not gain any of the modifiers (Fate or otherwise) that were applied directly to the duel that might have caused the damage flip. Effects that modify the damage flip will state that they do so specifically. - Page 46 big book

:+fate to attack actions only applies to the duel.

    To give you an example

    Nicodem

Corpse Conductor: Friendly Undead models within :aura 6” of this model gain :+fate  to Ml Attack Actions and :+fate to Df duels.

    from his upgrade Nercrotic king

Undead Crowning: Until the end of the Turn, all friendly Undead models within :aura 8 gain :+fate to their damage flips and Ca Actions.

See how one specifically says damage flips.

To further Extrapolate, Recalled Training: At the start of this model’s Activation, this model may discard this Upgrade to gain :+fate  to all flips for the remainder of this Turn.

Since it says all flips (damage flips are flips) this TT upgrade would give the user :+fate  to the attack and :+fate  to the damage flip (also :+fate  to randomization flips)

    Cheers
