There is the age old argument about whether Sensei Yu is better than the Emissary, but that is a matter of playstyle I think. 

I used to play Sensei Yu all the time with Lynch for the push and useful actions for Disciple.  The biggest reason I had for choosing Yu over the Emissary is that Yu can target Lynch with his Mighty Gust, while the Emissary's "Rite of Strength" can only target non-leaders with an upgrade. 

That being said, I've since replaced Yu with Maddox, and haven't looked back since. 

Could you provide some more details for the tournament, being that it's about 2 weeks away? Start time/schedule and Strategy/Scheme pool would be helpful.

Shenlong/Sensei Yu could yield similar results as well.  I imagine McCabe would probably be better, but if we're talking optimized strategy, are people honestly considering using "Black Flash" on a Katashiro instead of another minion?  Might not be the best choice, but it's a choice still I suppose.

This sounds very intriguing.  Could you explain a little more about the "player upgrades" though?

Bayou Smuggler's "The Swap" can only target enemy models.  But otherwise, everything else seems possible.  Just not sure if it's worth the effort yet. lol

I think "Last Blossom" suits her just fine.  "Katanaka" is more of a family name, whereas "Last Blossom" is actually the name of their secret organization.

Did you begin the game with the Ascendant upgrades? From the looks of your list, it seems you might have.  Those are supposed to be gained through his stat card, not at crew creation.

It's refreshing seeing Shenlong getting so much more playing time.  I loved him when he first came out, but was having some difficulties getting the hang of ALL OF HIS OPTIONS.  I'm finally settling in now though, and still continue to play him semi-regularly.

lol think you've just convinced me to do a Battle Report for my Yu-less game yesterday.

Wanted to clarify something with regards to Lynch's "Burnout" upgrade.  If an enemy model that doesn't already have "Under the Influence" yet is killed by an attack that gives "Under the Influence" from a trigger (ie - Huggy's Tendrils attack, or Lynch's Play for Blood attack), is the model considered to have the Brilliance characteristic when it dies? 

I thought I recalled reading somewhere that conditions that are applied as the result of a successful attack are considered to happen simultaneously (such as with Sonnia and her ability to create Witchling Stalkers), but I could be wrong.

This was how I played him religiously since the Emissary has been around.  Still do, but I'm seeing where there are advantages to not having Sensei there.  Truthfully speaking, the Emissary is the key piece to this, with the card drawing, but with the right support, there's definitely a lot of staying power here.

On a related note, I just played Shenlong yesterday for the first time WITHOUT Sensei Yu.  Worked out pretty well, honestly.  I won't clog up your thread with my own battle report, but just to gloss over what I did, the mission was "Ours", and the schemes were Guarded Treasure, Set Up, Covert Breakthrough, Hold Up Their Forces, and Take One for the Team.  Scored max points on Hold Up Their Forces and Guarded Treasure, and finished 10-1 against a Ramos player.  In hindsight, I probably should've done either Set Up or Covert Breakthrough instead of Guarded Treasure, but it still worked out well for me.

Prior to Jorogumo's release, Ototo was my "Go-To" for McCabe.  With the inclusion of Joro now, I would agree.  OP was asking for synergy with Misaki's box though.  It's also worth noting that Ototo being a Henchman himself has it's benefits too.  Spending soulstones for extra to add to Critical Strike gives a potential min damage of 5.  Not many models can take that kind of punishment, with 3 Ml8 attacks.  And unless you're facing Ressers, chances are good there won't be many to damage.  Add in Recalled Training for good measure, and there's a lot of sustainability there. 

Ototo would make a wonderful Beatstick for McCabe to bring along too.  You really can't go wrong with Misaki's crewbox.
