  3. News travels quickly in Malifaux, especially news that the powerful want to be heard. But with so many Divergent storylines, which Path is the correct one? The one told by the last one standing.

    "Hot Off The Presses!"
    Malifaux Story Encounter

This is a Divergent Paths event. In lieu of the standard Gaining Grounds strategies, we will be using the Story Encounters from the Divergent Paths event.

  4. It's a new event, which means a return of our Weekly strategy session.

The first set of encounters popped up and we need to figure out the best way to keep the Guild on top.

The Man: Set him on the straight and narrow with the service of the Guild Guard.

The Child: A new witch hunter is born.

The Trickster: A new member of the Ortega family?

The first week is rather exploratory, so for now let's focus on how to win these various scenarios.

Personally, I'd love another Guardsman synergy model, so I'm pushing for the Man.

  5. In the bayou south of Malifaux City, there's only one rule: the strongest rules.  And who is the strongest?  The one with the biggest hat.

  6. We are starting up a Shifting Loyalties campaign. This is open to anybody in the area, even if you can't make it out to Texas Toy Soldier every Monday.

We will be running the campaign over 6 "weeks". Each in-game "week" will be equal to 2 real time weeks. So, if we start on May 11th, our week 2 hiring will be on May 25th. This is to both accommodate people's lives and so campaign play doesn't crowd out other gaming.

Standard Campaign Rules apply. Start with a 35SS arsenal lead by a Henchman, which you pay for normally, and 1 upgrade.

    The wrinkles for this one:
-The Doctor is in play, so your injuries can be fixed up (sorta) at a cost
-We will be using Hide Outs to determine a "winner" so make sure your crib is appropriately swaggy
-Every week, if you play with a newly painted model, you earn 1 extra scrip. This bonus is applicable once per week and can put you over the standard limit of 16 scrip per "week".

Submit your arsenals and hide out selection here or in a PM and when we start I'll collate them and keep records. Games can be played at TTS, other stores, at home, Vassal, or wherever so long as it's with somebody else participating in the campaign. Honor system, guys.

If anyone needs the full rules, they are in Shifting Loyalties. The Campaign Quick Reference is also a handy file: http://www.wyrd-games.net/s/Shifting-Loyalties-Campaign-files.zip
  7. Howdy, folks!

Tournaments are going to be a regular thing in DFW.  This month we have one on the 30th.

    Where: Texas Toy Soldier
When: 10am show up, 11am start
Format: 50SS, fixed faction, Gaining Grounds, 2 hour rounds

In an effort to encourage attendance, I'll be waiving the painting requirement this time.  In the future though, this will change.

Here are your strats and schemes:

    Round 1
    Strategy: Reconnoiter
    Deployment: Flank
Schemes: Convict Labor, Leave Your Mark, Show of Force, Detonate the Charges, Occupy Their Turf

    Round 2
    Strategy: Extraction
    Deployment: Standard
Schemes: Convict Labor, Take Prisoner, Show of Force, Hunting Party, A Quick Murder

    Round 3
    Strategy: Collect the Bounty
    Deployment: Close
Schemes: Convict Labor, Leave Your Mark, Exhaust Their Forces, Set Up, Inspection

    Oh, and it's free!

    Hope to see you there!

  8. Howdy, folks!

I am Jeremy, a Henchman in the Dallas/Ft Worth area.  DFW is a big place, but I'm happy to run around to help promote Malifaux.

Our main game night is Monday nights at Texas Toy Soldier in Carrollton.  Drop by to chat or get a demo and I'll be happy to assist.

If you're a bit further afield or not free on Monday night, just message me and we can set something up.

    Cheers!

Update: Demos continue through the month of May.  Come on out and play!

  9. I haven't played Lucius as Neverborn yet, but they have so many good minions for Lucius to boss around.  Illuminated, Terror Tots, Waldgeists, Changelings, ugh it's so nasty.  Doppelganger with a pair of Austringers is a lot of shooting.  Pathfinders are great board control.  Freikorps Trappers/Envy with Changelings makes for a mean gunline.  Lucius is hard to play because he relies so much on his minions and almost all his tricks require suits.  He can burn through his hand so quickly, it's painful.  But he gives out so many AP it can make up for it.

  10. Maybe have the Exorcist and Lone Marshal on rotation depending on the S&S?  Lady J, Judge, Emissary, 2 Marshals, Effigy, and upgrades would be plenty and still leave you enough for one of those two and cache.  Throw in 2 Watchers instead on marker heavy schemes.

I've only run the Exorcist with McMourning, but his crossbow is pretty neat and the chance of outright killing something is nice when you have the :crow

  11. Abuela is indeed pretty great for all those reasons.

The Ortegas do lack for cheap filler and scheme runners.  Guild Hounds and Watchers are great for filling that niche.  Hunters are solid for a more expensive runner-that-kills-other-runners.  Austringers are their normally awesome stuff.  Wtichling Stalkers can help with conditions.  A Death Marshal is nice for boxing up Papa to keep the + to damage on 'dita.  Ryle is a solid standalone piece with good shooting and melee.  You've got a lot of good options.

There's a huge difference between schemes being easier/harder for certain Masters and a scheme that completely neuters Masters and gives your opponent VPs without them having to do anything to earn them. Plus nobody plays Lucius competitively ;-)

Isn't that more cause for concern than Leveticus not being able to faceroll every game?

It was designed to be gape and competitive for all Masters though. Having one scheme that completely neuters the way certain Masters are supposed to play is poor design.

Were you outraged that Lucius had a hard time competing when Make Them Suffer popped up?
