  1. haha yes zfeind, still allows you to get off what...4-5 gamble for your life per turn. ;)

10 with strum the threads i believe.  4 Collodi "My Wills" then accomplice into 3 more from the fast stiched.  Then reactivate later in the turn for 3 more.  This is assuming it lives which is...shady at best.

  2. My models come alive at night.

The masters plot, the factions fight.

While I'm in bed and tucked in tight,

    A victim screams in Malifaux.

My world doesn't have a Breach,

    a glowing gate to lunacy.

To get there I just go to sleep,

and board the train to Malifaux.

I'm headed to this cave I know,

a dark and hellish place to go.

They say there's monsters down below.

I'm gonna test my might in Malifaux.

Well, there you have it.  Feedback and/or ridicule is encouraged!  :)

  3. Forge me - as a newbie, what's the significance of the lips on the edge of the roof (for that matter, why would an eave count as a wall?) - or what would you have done differently?

I'm presuming buildings usually aren't considered climbable unless there's something that looks like people should be able to climb it?

Well it gets a little fuzzy at times, but the the gremlins are height 1, so they can hide behind the walls.  Where as normally, vantage point rules would allow you to see them if they were close to the edge of the roof.  Or at least, that's my current understanding.  But it also blocked line of sight to the scheme markets he placed on the edges of the roofs.  I had Large Arachnids in the backfield to remove scheme markers with their (0) action, but they couldn't get LOS to target them.  It was really bad list building on my part.  The one person I did have on the roof, a trapper, got tied up with a skeeter.  The lip also hurt him because he couldn't use his (0) action to push off the roof and out of engagement.  He could just pinball around up there.  Looking back, my list was almost comical.  It was the result of pre-building a list that I though would work great but then not adapting it to the terrain.  Hopefully, I've learned that lesson.

  4. "Just watching" = feeding him high cards. He promised if I did he'd buy me a pony.

    I knew it!

I took a picture of one of the cracks, as it was so majestic. You couldn't look away. It was one of the Bolt Action guys, not us, thank goodness. Out of a sense of propriety, I've since erased it, but still, it was there.

I would not be brave enough to take a picture of crack.  I guess I do have boundaries after all!

Great post! Lots of wisdom here.

I don't play a lot of tournaments, but when I do, I'm always surprised at how worn out I am by late afternoon. Game one is usually fun; I'm usually feeling sharp. Game two is about keeping things together. Game three... Well by then I'm out of the running and focusing on having fun. And playing very sloppily.

Is it possible to cultivate tournament stamina?

This doesn't sound like a serious suggestion but it is...maybe play 2 games at once to build tournament stamina?  Against one person, or against two willing (and patient) friends?  I never tried it but that simulate the brain fry that occurs pretty well.

  5. Lets say you could ignore the strategy and schemes and just build a crew that has the most killing power possible...what would your crew be?

(It would be great if you built them with the crew creator tool and then pasted them here)  Keep in mind, you still don't know what you're opponent will bring, or even what faction he/she will declare.  So the list has to be adaptable enough to kill anything that comes your way.

I'm anxious to see what you guys think!

  6. I use to play a lot of chess online, and the sportsmanship was absolutely horrible.  Malifaux (I play mostly on Vassal) is a breath of fresh air in comparison, but I've noticed one area that could maybe be improved; whining about cards.  I mean, I don't mind if someone facepalms when they flip the black joker.  That's part of the fun after all.  But I do mind if every time they draw a card lower than a 7 they make a big deal about it.   I think this sort of complaining is masking a bigger issue they may have, which is the inability to assign fault to themselves.

Before I sound too condescending, please know that I'm completely guilty of this at times.  After a game that was ripe with golden learning opportunities, I was instead focused on the bad luck I had in the game.  My goal is to instead embrace the loss, own up to it, and learn as much as possible from it.  I think this mindset will eventually make me a better player, but will immediately make me a better sportsman.

And as a closing thought, if you find yourself whining about cards in an unhealthy way, ask yourself what exactly you're trying to accomplish.  Are you trying to cheapen your opponents victory?  Are you trying to absolve yourself of any blame for the loss?  Do you think you're opponent wants to hear how bad your cards were?  I just can't think of any good reason to do it...

So what do you think?  Is it an unrealistic goal to never whine?  Am I way off base?  Would you have more fun with someone who complains or someone who didn't? etc etc etc

  7. Been playing a lot of Outcasts lately.  I would rate them as:

Tier 1: Leveticus (so well rounded and always has just the right models)

Tier 2: Hamelin (activation control and flexibility), Viks (the power to wipe the table), Misaki (single target destruction, reliable blasts and card advantage (Shang))

Tier 3: Von Schill (well rounded but predictable), Tara (a lot going on yet seems like a one trick pony), Jack Daw (?)

Though I've had limited experience with Jack and Tara.

  8. Trying to deduce what your opponent will bring is fun and legal.  But peeking in bags is not really my cup of tea, nor is it really that reliable.  Someone could always be baiting you into countering a certain master by flashing the models, then handing you his crew cards and they don't match the models.  That would be one of those GOTCHA! moments.

As I've been playing more, I've been leaning towards safer, more universal crews.  Countering a certain master is putting too many eggs in one basket for me.  But I do agree with you Spectre in that list building is half the fun of this game.

  9. Great vid! I think the activation control you mention will become more and more prominent , even in non-thremed crews. I think you imply at one point that rat catchers can summon rats by attacking friendly models, but I believe it's only enemy models.
