  1. Really like your work, particularly the McMourning Crew - great details there such as the fur on the remains, the skin tones on the flesh construct and the gore on the doctor himself.

If I may, I'd like to suggest an easy technique to improve the look of flames: If you take a glaze of the corresponding color and lightly touch the areas that would be hit by the light emitted by the flames (or whatever lightsource you have), the flames seem much more real and it kind of ties the model more together. Here's a good example (not mine) of what I mean: http://crystalbrush.coolminiornot.com/cbartwork/index/id/639

The good part is that it is quite easy to do by intuition and layer in the light step by step wherever you feel you need more. The hardest part for me was to get myself to take a neatly painted mini and just start applying glazes all over the place :D

On a side note: you just reminded me that I should start painting my brutal effigy ;)

  2. Zoraida

Gosh it's late, I'm so tired - but I finally finished Zoraida :)

Some notes on the mini: She consists of a lot of parts, but you're more or less free to place the voodoo dolls wherever you want. She needs some green stuff here and there - especially on the fur on her back - to get the parts to fit properly. I suggest considering having upper body and lower body separate for painting and glue them afterwards as her hunched pose and the stuff she holds in her hands makes painting the chest area a pain (Yes, I realized too late :P). Nonetheless, the model was good fun to work with and I enjoyed building the little scenery very much.

Enjoy, thoughts, comments and questions are welcome :)

  3. hm, I'll try to explain:

Take the picture where he's looking to the right (the rightmost shot), if you'd continue the curve of his forehead towards the back of his head and also look at his jawline, you could basically draw a human-like skull into this head, right? The back of his head could then be stuck onto that (The curves on the top of his head indicate two overlapping spheres. That part looks a little attached and makes me think some alien parasite invaded his skull...

See the pic on what I mean: picture

    Green: skull, red: overlapping/symbiont part.

(Used your pic without asking, I delete it of course if this is an issue for you)

So... got around to do Bad Juju, the Mire Golem. No contextualizing this time.

Some thoughts about the model: I like that he is fairly big (quite a bit larger than Teddy and Killjoy actually). On overall, I think the model looks good, there is just one angle from where his head looks like he has no actual jaw but is grown into his belly (but I nagged about that already in Gmort's unboxing ;))

Not much else to say, really, apart from: Thoughts and comments are welcome :)

  5. it's not just a couple of inches more movement but a crapton of more movement :D

You'll see that the tots are very quick with their sprint ability (they can potentially run 20 inches in one activation).

But yes, depending on scheme and strategy it will be very ..unfavorable.

All the models in the Lilith box are very good, though, so once you get into the game and get maybe some complementary models, you'll have a blast.

  6. The Silurid standing on the rock has four toes on one foot and three on the other... Cannot unsee, will have to greenstuff a toe...

Anyways, great unboxing. The Silurids, Zoraida and the Voodoo doll are great, not entirely sold on Bad Juju though. He generally looks good except from his right side where he looks less hunchbacked but more like his head is just attached to the front of his chest with no neck or separate jaw whatsoever. But maybe that 's intentional.

  7. Since you asked specifically about the colors:

I'm not quite sure about the brown/purple. Mostly because a blueish/redish hue suggests blood and life, which would not be my scheme of choice for an undead.

That being said I would be interested in why you chose the colors/ your thought process when you decided on the color scheme? Maybe it's easier to see where you intend to go then :)

  8. I'm planning a conversion of the Hungering Darkness for mine, still doing some concept for it, we'll see... More tendrils might be a good idea.

This one looks similar to Malifaux model, but is much more creepier. Forge World - Tyranid Malanthrope. Sadly it is rather expensive - 49,50 GBP and is quite large - 129 mm (5 inches) tall, but it looks like the base is around 50 mm. Imagine it painted very dark with purple tint.

The malanthrope would be an idea but for me, apart from the price tag, the chitinous parts don't fit in.

Hell Dorado: Damned One of Gluttony, maybe?

  9. Oh, didn't realize it wasn't done. In that case, looks very solid for a WIP (I almost never have the patience to shoot them... guess that's why I assumed)

Wouldn't go as far as to call it WIP... More like "work more or less done" I would have left that way if nothing started bothering me in the following days.

So yeah, you're right.. You were talking about the backside of the mirror, right? - That thing is a nightmare... I hate large flat surfaces, they always scream at me: "I am boooring and you don't know what to do about it". Not sure how I should have painted it, if you have any input I would be grateful, so I know next time :)

For now, I added a little freehand pattern to the front frame of the mirror and varnished the whole thing and will probably call it done. Plenty of other models to go and I'll have to paint up a whole crew over the course of January - mid February for a local campaign :)
