  1. So question that has come up in our group: how do you go about becoming a guild sanctioned spellcaster?

Is it automatic if you are Thelarian, or maybe even Oxford? Is there a fee involved, or do you just have to say you work for the Guild? And what if you aren't Thelarian or Oxford, but still work for the Guild (or at least not work against them)

Oh in that case, resend the customer service e-mail and make a nice little statement that Nathan said he would like to sign off on it first so that it has to come across my desk and we find out who jacked it up a second time. :)

Thanks Nathan. Would you like me to send my original packing order as well, so you can see both?

Also, do you want me directly quote you ?

  3. So just to come back to this with an update: I managed to score one of the free RPG day books, and ran my first ever session last night. Apparently I did a good job of it, although I got carried away at the start telling people all the details they didn't need to know (extra bits of info, wounds left etc).

I really enjoyed doing it, and it was lots of fun. But I am wondering where to go from here. I have the In Defence of Innocence book and was looking at getting the In the Gutter book, just to help get me rolling, as one of feedback comments last night was it would be more fun and involving if people got to make their own characters.

  4. Luck will always play a part in any game, that is part of the fun  :)

I wouldn't say I can count cards, but I do run statistics through my head all the time (ie I need this number or suit, there are X number in the deck plus Y number in my hand) and I try to watch what my opponent plays as well (you can get an idea of their hand by when they cheat), but in saying that there are way too many variables to ever really know exactly how things are going to work.

  5. Okay, quick question.

Declaring a faction is stage 3 in the set up, so i declare Neverborn. In a 35ss game which is going to be Henchman led, is there any reason i can't declare a Mercenary leader for that crew?

I've not got any trick up my sleeve with it but is there any practical reason why I couldn't run Neverborn with Hannah leading them as a Merc?

I'm sure i can't but can't put my finger on why not.

    Thanks in advance.

But then you have to ask yourself: why use a filthy outsider to lead your crew, when you have any of the true masters of Malifaux at your call

  6. What about equal to?

Eg a Ht 2 model standing next to Ht 2 terrain, and with a 1" Melee range, can't hit that model?  I can accept if that's what the rules are, but that also seems absurd.

I guess what it sounds like is that melee range is measured from the base, even if it's going vertical.  Doesn't make sense, but if that's the rules :)

    Already answered, but no.

With elevation it's all or nothing. Either you are taller than the object, or your Ht doesn't matter.

  7. Wouldn't he only use 1" of his melee range?

2" high, object is 3" high, both are right on the edge.

Couldn't that also mean the captain could be up to 3" away from the edge and still be attacked by the Wadgeist?

Ht stat only comes in to play at the start, eg:

Is lower models Ht greater than object Ht?

Yes - ignore object Ht and just measure  :melee  range top down

No - ignore model Ht, use Ht of object + top down distance between models.

I find this an easy way to think of it, and it took me a while to work it out. Because all measuring is done top down, there is no adding  :melee range to Ht, or anything like that.
