  1. Lead designer = lead rules writer.

And Nekima had her rules updated from Ht4 down to Ht3, which the new model is in scale with. I don't think there's any issue with her scale, ruleswise (eg, the model is consistent with the rules).

The other scale issues seem to be what Justin was talking about (such as crouching models being huge) more than this particular model.

...Except she's now smaller than a Ht 2 Barbaros.

  2. So if the lead designer doesn't know what scale the models are intended to be, who does? A lot of the frustration seen in regard to Nekima isn't just about her; this has been building with every screwy release. Since some are, apparently, intentional and some aren't, we can't know which it is unless someone officially tells us.

I usually just don't buy the problem sets--I've avoided buying the new Marshals and gremlins because of mismatched sizing. This one took me by surprise though.

Every time it happens, customer faith in the brand sinks more.

Edit: I also don't buy the "it's just abstract on the table" bit. I don't know of any other miniature range who does that. They tend to be designed with a scale in mind, don't they?

  3.

All we can do as say we are not satisfied with it and then not buy it, and really leave the matter there.

The problem is we -already- bought it, with expectations based on the previous model and fluff. It's too late to vote with our money, so we're voicing our dissatisfaction here. Also attempting to warn others away so that -they- can avoid it.

Basically, the company has lost a lot of good will from me. As someone else posted already, I'm not buying another model based on art and renders alone. I'm waiting for pics and reviews from now on, because I don't feel like I can trust Wyrd anymore. Not with this and all the other sizing issues that they've been having.

  4. I assume a simple mold is made quicker than a complex mold. I'm now making this all up, but if the milling machine (I magine a little drill like thing) can chisel the mold out in 1 plane then it would be much faster than if it needed 2 planes (Its milling would have to stop while it re-orientated itself to the new plane.)

It seems pretty obvious that the 3D design is taken apart to reduce protrusions before anything physical is even made. Which is why we end up with things like Yan Lo's beard as a separate piece. Aside from that, molds are made once. I don't see a reason production costs would differ. <Redacted by mod>

I'll just post pics of the Katanaka and Nekima sprues side-by-side when I get home.

  5. I'd say more TT crews will use Fuhatsu / Snipers, than Nb crews will use Nekima.  Plus you could also assume sales of 'new' models to the game would be higher than those of models which have had a sculpt in the past.  Selling someone a new sculpt of an existing model is probably harder than selling a brand new model.

If anything, that's a reason to lower the cost. You don't increase the price on something to encourage sales.

And saying, "Well there are cheaper things in this range" still doesn't justify the outliers. It's another reason to be -more- upset about what I just got in the mail, since I have expectations regarding what I get for my money in Malifaux. If my wife were to ask me how much I paid for this, I'd be embarassed to tell her. It's a ripoff.

  6. Personally, I do not mind the price (I understand the reason behind it being so expensive)

And what reason would that be, exactly? I haven't seen anything that seems a valid reason for her to cost as much as she does. Fuhatsu is $5 cheaper, and is three models on a single base. He fills the same organizational slot in a crew.

If I had purchased Nekima in a physical store, I'd be trying to return her. Plenty of good proxies out there for half the cost.

  7. Just got my order in, and I'm massively disappointed in her size considering her monetary cost.

She's on a single small sprue for $35.

Two Katanaka Snipers are on a slightly larger sprue, with more pieces, for $18.

    Hannah packs a full-size sprue for $35.

For the cost, I was expecting her to be a huge, imposing model. Something like the Peacekeeper (for which I paid less than half what I paid for her). This is the kind of pricing that I point out at the GW store as a reason I don't play their games anymore. What's the justification for selling a single, relatively small and uncomplex plastic model for $35?

  8. Lucas' damage isn't great, but tossing upgrades around can really boost another model's effectiveness. They're not limited to minions only: A Peacekeeper with the Badge of Speed can potentially move up to an enemy and use Flurry instead of charging.

I had a game where I tossed the Glowing Sabre to my Peacekeeper who was about to engage a big enemy construct just to bypass armor and hard to wound. The next turn the Peacekeeper used the sabre. Lucas took it back during his activation, used it, and then threw it to a wastrel with his 0 action. Wastrel activated next and charged with it. 3 different models used the same upgrade in one turn.

Wastrels themselves aren't very durable(at all), but can use their 2 action to heal someone and still make an attack. If you've got something which poses a major threat (like a Peacekeeper with upgrades) your opponent has to either deal with it while wastrels heal it, or kill wastrels while the Peacekeeper does its thing.

Badge of Speed on Sidir is great, too--It lets him get into range and still have 2 AP to shoot.

  9. So Lucas' card states:

Crews led by this model may hire up to 4 models with

the Black Sheep or Guardsman Characteristic
that are not the Crew's declared Faction.

I see though that Luna, Sidir, and the Wastrels are already dual-faction and could be taken as Guild anyway. Are there other 10T models with the 'Black Sheep' tag? All I've been able to get my hands on is the mini rulebook, and can't peruse the list myself.

(Seriously Wyrd, I'd pay $10 for a PDF of the full book.)
