I agree!
it's pretty much an auto add for me as well. And he's awesome in Avatar, becoming more melee than magic. I do like the magic, don't get me wrong, but when you need him to spider kick some folks, his Avatar is great.
I've been bringing him out turn 2, if I need too. Depending on Strategies and Schemes. But if I want a few more spiders skittering around, i'll wait for turn 3 or 4.

Hey Ozz, no, you can bring him out turn 2, one of the easiest Avatars to Manifest. And his Avatar is more melee than magic, which is very useful against a hard hitting crew. His "Leap" (i think that's what it is) as a 0 action is a game changer.
Both his melee attacks are strong and the fact that he gets scrap like crazy in Avatar form, and can trade it in to do more attacks along with other things, makes him an awesome addition.
Sorry to hear you have never played him, you should check him out sometime.
