  1. Interesting, it's one of the first, if not the first upgrade I put on my master. Maybe it's dependent on the master you play? I'm pretty much only playing Colette when I'm playing and she doesn't really care about her upgrades anyway.

Still, I do think that 1ss for a much higher chance to determine activation order is amazing. It won't matter all the time, but when it does matter it can be seriously powerful.

  2. Interesting, I only take Fugue State in special circumstances, however I almost always take Fears Given Form on her.

But yeah, it really depends. Both in the models in question and the stray and schemes. Colette for instance is rarely upgrade heavy. Most times I send 2ss on her and maybe 2-3 on the crew. A master like Raspoutina or Ramos is much more upgrade heavy. But it really depends on what you need to do in the game. But forgetting them usually isn't a problem.

  3. I've been waiting to see these for ages and overall I really like them. I'm not terribly keen on the flames in her hand, it just seems a bit odd and not really in character for Colette. I can understand not wanting to go with cards though, as that's really much more Jakob. But I'm not sure she needs anything in her hand at all really. In any case, we can always hope there are a few optional hands. The only other complaint I have about Colette is the stitching on the hat. It just seems a little weird and despite the corset and the braces it seems out of place. As someone else said, it's much more a resurrectionist hat. It's obviously a bit different feel to the old one. It's much more wild west and less New Orleans and I doubt I'll get rid of my old one. But I really do like this one.

The mannequin looks like a huge improvement over the old models who, lets be honest, are fairly boring models. I don't really use mannequins but at least these looks like they could be fun to paint up and look cool. It also makes me very hopeful that I'll get some Coryphee models I don't hate so I can start using those.

  4. Primodial Magic is a good one, I use that more than the Poltergiest. Teddy is another good model, especially if you like Kade. Insidius Madness is an amazing utility/Scheme runner model and Beckoners are pretty handy. And the Illuminated is probably the best mid-range fighter in Neverborn. Dobbleganger is another really good one, being able to cheat the Initiative flip is amazing.

  5. Another time to consider using focus is when hitting something (regardless of damage) have an important effect. It could be you have an effect on your attack that you need to go off or it could be that the threat of that effect will force your opponent to try and cheat out of the hit and focusing makes it much more likely they will have to spend a good card to do so. Same can apply to needing a suit for a trigger, it just makes it more likely that you get it. It's not always the 'optimal' use of resources, but if you can't spare the card to cheat for something it can be a viable alternative.

  6. And don't forget the slow trigger on the Acolyte. Putting slow on key models (and in theory it could be up to 12? in a single turn) can go a long way to blunt your opponents plan. Joss, Howard, Acolyte and Cassandra would probably be my starting point. Another thing to consider is Metal Gamins if you want some cheap activations. They can be a real pain to deal with.

  7. I had terrible luck with summoning Doves so I gave up on it sometime during the beta and haven't really used them since. In fact in almost all my games she doesn't use any totems.

But it's really good that lots of other people are getting use out of them.

I tend to run Colette upgrade light these days. Seize the Day and the one giving Surge on Prompt is what I usually do. Colette is usually better of spending the points on other models than herself anyway.

  8. I find that while Colette in first edition was all about the showgirls in this edition having showgirls is a neat bonus, but she really doesn't care who she brings, as long as that model does a good job at something. Prompt is so versatile that she makes any good model better. The core of most of my crews tend to be Howard Langston, a December Acolyte, Cassandra and Angelica. On the other hand I find very little use for Mannequins. Yes, the remote placing of scheme markers are neat, but I don't find I need it, and it's an insignificant peon so it won't count for any scheme/strats on it's own. I also think it's worth considering what Totem to bring, if any, with her. I really want to get around to try the Malifaux Child with her, as I actually think that could work out quite neatly and I don't find the Doves especially important to her playstyle.

Also be careful not to go overboard with placing scheme markers just because you can. Yes, the crew benefits from having them around, but once you got about half a dozen on the board you are usually covered in terms of backup so don't spend too much time placing scheme markers that isn't contributing towards a tangible goal (usually schemes). And the same goes for killing, you can make a very efficient killing crew with Colette handing out extra actions to some of our heavy hitters. But make sure you are doing so for a reason.

  9. Using a 12ss model for claim markers doesnt seem too cost effective though

If you are doing it turn 1 it can work out just fine. For later turns I'd have him do other stuff, but being able to put down a marker and sit in a very threatening position is pretty good for a turn one. Of course, if your opponent advance something important into range you can also just move him up and flurry them to death turn 1.

  10. The ideal number is 0. IMO Sorrows are just not good enough for their price.

I think they have some uses, but their use is mostly related to Misery Loves Company. That ability is actually really handy, and can make them surprisingly quick and able to both do schemes for you or be immensely frustrating for your opponent. Now they generally don't survive that, but that's okay, if they managed to slow my opponent down on an important turn/activation that can be worth it. However I do agree that the ideal number is probably between 0-2. You are going to have a hard time clustering the rest to a meaningful degree as well as forcing enough Wp tests for it to actually matter. And for all that they can be surprisingly speedy and flexible, that is all dependent on other models and it's a lot easier to arrange if you bring some other fast models of your own.

  11. Colette is very, very good at Stake a Claim. As long as you bring the crew for it. But she can fairly easily get to place markers in turn 1 and with a little luck you can keep your opponent reacting to you, rather than being able to place the markers where he wants them to. Anything that gives you extra movement is good for this, and Colette bring that in spades. Howard is also a very good companion for her for this as he have Nimble meaning you can push or Prompt him up the table a bit, he can nimble and still interact. If you bring doves you can also teleport up.

Just remember that she doesn't let anyone do it as a (0) as that only apply to (1) interact actions.

  12. I've always found the Viktorias really fun to play against, and especially in M2E to play with. Yes, each individual Viktoria have a high melee damage output, but they are also fragile and you can take revenge. In addition the concept of what they do is fairly straight forward and although there is a lot of additional stuff you can do I think they are quite well suited to start with. Both playing them and playing against them.

  13. I haven't played many games of Malifaux recently so I haven't had a chance to use it since the deck actually came out, but I did try several beta games with it on an Ice Golem and it does provide a very impressive explosion. Had one memorable game with Raspy against Sonnia where the Ice Golem blew up and triggered a chain reaction of several Witchlings effectively gutting the entire center of the board. Lucky for me it was mostly his models there.
