  1. @Aramoro - remember that Colette could always Slow To Die and Use Soulstone for a Healing Flip to avoid being one-shotted like that. Although now whichever Showgirl she changes places with won't be able to do that, so will probably die to the one-shot damage Colette just missed.

So under the new rules, you have more chance of losing a model using this Trigger, but also less chance of putting Wds on Colette.

    Mannequins \0/

  2. I can see both side here, from the TO's perspective he wants to have a fun league in which everyone can learn and become better players. He wants to protect his new players from getting trashed over and over again and putting them off the game.

As far as I can tell very few new players play Malifaux the way it's in the book, they have their Crew and that's what they'll play. I play Colette not Arcanists, my friend plays Sonnia, not the Guild etc. Now over time I'm sure we will expand our collections. Now we just can't compete with someone who can play Outcasts and choose Leveticus, Hamlin, Viktorias as needed with a tailored crew to the opponent and objectives. So every match against that player becomes a no-contest. I'm not even learning very much from the experience other than I need more Crew options.

  3. I really wish I could delete this entire thread. Half the replies are argumentative and the OPPOSITE of what I want in this forum. I posted about a trend I do not like in the rules discussion forum, and specific individuals seem to want to take it as personal attacks and the other half want to tell me why I say the things I do. I have no interest in EITHER of those discussions. I play Malifaux for fun. This thread is not, nor does it help rules conversations, which is all I wanted. To clear out what I perceive to be noise in other threads. Instead, I have created a thread of nothing but noise.

Pfft you don't OWN this thread, it's now a debate about other things.

I suppose you think having a cup and two marginally less-insolvent football teams, like, means something!

We also have a castle, nicer pubs and most importantly fewer weegies over here. That said our football teams are only very marginally less insolvent than yours, but irrelevant as The Bairns are doing fine.

  4. People can read(or ignore) what they like. Seeing "aggression" in my post is interesting, though.

I do not believe that sort of thing is in my nature and wonder what other people perhaps project into the things they read, but whatever floats your boat...

Is this bit a joke or do you genuinely not know what being passive-aggressive is?

Now with all that said and done I challenge Aramoro to prove that an Edinbugger is better than a Weegie =P

It would be such a trivial challenge I don't think we really need to go into it.

^^Oh, I never knew this was off the back of a bad thread :(

Re Hamelin, it expressly states in the Rule Book that models of the same name cannot feature in the same crew - and it even uses Hamelin as the example

It wasn't even a bad thread really.

I think I must have skimmed that bit of the rulebook, boo I say.

  5. Oh no, now discussions are broken. *wink*

Good point though, and I really don't understand if Aramoro's post is a joke or not?

I decided to redefine the boundaries of the discussion. This kind of thread never ends well and it's passive-aggressive nature only serves to put new posters off a forum. The general posting style on the forum can be very condescending, one of the worst I've seen with a few members, such as yourself magicpockets, really going out of your way to be very helpful. I've read the thread that spawned this thread and actually I can see why is was bemused.

  6. I always struggle with this issue. For example, when an opponent targets a model with immune to influence with a WP attack.

I would always say in these cases. Mainly because if I win I want to win because I had the best tactics etc, not because my opponent wasn't familiar enough with my crew or a detail of the rules. Abusing the rules to your advantage is one thing, letting your opponent do something you know is against the rules and only after they do it bringing up the fact it doesn't work and they lose their AP. That's a cheap way to win.

  7. That game was more just an example than anything else and It went pretty well for me in many areas. My question is really, Is the Benny Hill bit right. I know I'm not supposed to go toe to toe with, well anyone really.

I'm not complaining, Argentbadger plays a hard game which I appreciate. Just when your game ends with your last model running away from people waving letters at her it feels wrong. If that's what's supposed to happen then that cool and I can work on perfecting the art of messing around.

  8. Deliver the Message is a (2) action so getting in and doing it is easy enough with Cassandra or a Duet. My usual Schemes are Power Ritual and Sabotage which are usually easy enough to complete. But flipping any strategy which requires me to be near his models usually ends up unpleasantly for me.

I only mentioned going toe to toe with Sonnia because someone mentioned it further up. I usually don't try to go near them at all if I can avoid it. What I'm struggling with is avoiding it. My opponent forms a line across the table and just double moves towards me as fast as possible. So I get kinda corralled into a corner. I know I'm clearly doing something wrong, what that is I'm not sure though. Duet does seem to be the key though as they can skip though the line and give me more movement.

  9. Sabotage is a nice easy one which is always good.

What I don't understand is how you're getting to Sonnia without a Witchling destroying your stupid face with his Rune Blade. I Witching need a 7 to pass the test to shank a Performer, Severe kills you outright Moderate kills you if they flip a :rams, best case scenario is they do weak damage and only half kill you. I mean if a Witchling cheats in for Severe damage on Colette you're burning Soul stones to stay alive.

That's what I don't understand really. I can't single out a model and beat it down as i'll just get counter charged by Witchings and killed.

  10. Myself and my friends have been play a bit of Malifaux now, playing at the 25 SS values as we're learning really. The main problem I have is Sonnia wiping my crew out to a showgirl by the end of the encounter. If we flip a Strategy like Deliver a Message then I can do that with Cassandra but then she's dead, and if he's got a Kill Protege it's easy points. In general he's rocking a couple of the Ortegas, 2 Witchlings and Sonnia so he can kill anyone in my crew in 2 hits basically. Last game I took a Corphyee to see how they did but but one shotted by a Witchling Stalker's rune blade.

I could try not going near any of them but that makes it very very hard to complete he VP's Against the Ressers and Aracanists I have enough tricks to do some stuff but against Sonnia I'm really struggling. I was thinking about maybe taking Johan Renegade Steamfitter to help punch people to death and deflect attention from my fragile showgirls.

Anyone got any tips to help in this matchup?

  11. Well a Rat could only ever do 3 wounds to the Executioner as you only get +1Wd from Blight Tokens. It would seem that he is someone not to target with Rats as it would be pretty futile. But then he's also got Decapitate so got to be wary of going near him with Hamelin. In fact I don't like the look of Executioners at all, I recommend not taking them.

  12. Well I played a quick game the other day there against my friends Sonjia Creed and I have to say it went very well/badly depending on your perspective. It was a simple 'Destroy the Evidence' and I had Bodyguard and Hamelins specific scheme. My opponent conceded at the start of turn 3 when he lost the Initiative flip and was about to have Sonjia eaten by Rats. This lead us to believe we were doing something wrong, The sequence of events was something like

Rats move up, Writhing Mass to get close, Rat Catcher kills them all and Voreacious Rats to get more, they Writhing mass forwards around a Witchling Stalker and Impetuous for the :+fate before attacking. They kill the Witchling Stalker who explodes Voracious Rats kicks in and they surge forwards again onto a poor Franciso Ortega who is also devoured by the Writhing Mass/Impetuous/Attacking. That was my bottom of turn 1, turn 2.

Is that normal? How do you play against that, is it a simple case of just running away from the Rat Swarm or wading thought it to punch Hamlin in his stupid face?

The thing is I really like Hamelin but I don't want games to be an entirely negative play experience for my opponent.

  13. If your target resists Blinding then you will not get the Push as far as I can see. I don't think there's any requirement for the effects to be directly targeting the resisting model for them to be resisted. Like if Razorspine Rattlers cast Constrict and have it resisted, do they still get the :rams on their Strikes?

  14. We've just started playing Malifaux with Colette as my first Master and getting into how to play her and it's fun, I picked up the Rising Powers book to have a look and a came across Hamelin who looks like fun. So I though I would give him a go as I'm basically a terrible human being.

Currently we're playing small games, 25 SS so i'm Trying to work out what the balance should be between holding stones and having a crew to use.

    My first thought was :-

    Outcasts Crew - 25 - Scrap

    Hamelin the Plagued
    --
    3 Pool

    • Malifaux Rat
      [2ss]

    • Malifaux Rat
      [2ss]

    • Nix, the Bull Terrier
      [7ss]

    • Rat Catcher
      [5ss]

    • The Stolen
      [3ss]

    • The Stolen
      [3ss]

but that leaves me with a very low Pool, so perhaps drop both rats for another The Stolen, give me one more stone in my pool. It's tricky to know coming from Colette where I'll regularly have 7 SS pool and use them for everything. Is Nix just too expensive and better to have another The Stolen, Rat and 2 spare stones?
