  1. Nicodem

    1 Bete Noire

    6 Canine Remains

    2 Desperate Mercenary

    6 SS cache

    Turn 1

Use Desperate Mercenary A to kill a Canine Remains (+1 cc)

Use Desperate Mercenary B to kill another Canine Remains (+1 cc)

Place Bete Noire where one of the canine remains was, activate her - use flurry to kill 3 more canine remains (+3 cc)

Activate Nicodem - Use 4 cc to summon Rogue Necromancy, and one other undead (or a mindless zombie for Nicodem to start meat shield)

Or do I summon 1 Flesh Construct and 2 MZ's?

Does that tactic work? From then on in you can use Bolster Undead and continue summoning, if necessary can kill off the DM's and the remaining CR's for more summoning.

  2. My first master I got was Nicodem as I liked the idea of a zombie horde, I liked his avatar and the alt model was pretty good.

However, he is a bit disappointing:

    1. awfully slow,
    2. doesn't really get a "horde" of zombies,
    3. there seems to be a lot of other models that are geared up to deal with the undead,
    4. corpse-counter dependent to be effective so anything that doesn't drop them or removes them automatically has an advantage

Just seems Ressers in general are pooped on from all directions.... shame really. The only one who isn't is Kirai but then she deals with spirits not "proper" undead...

Is there not some way to readdress the balance so that ressers actually can properly ressurrect stuff?

  3. Would this be ok for a generalised Pandora 35ss list? Just trying to figure out what models to buy...

    Pandora

    Poltergeist

    Sorrow

    Sorrow

    Sorrow

    Lelu

    Lilitu

    Doppleganger

What other models would you suggest I get just to give some variation? From what I can make out, Pandora is a tough master to play against, however I see her weaknesses as:

    1) High WP models

    2) AoE / indirect attacks

    3) players using the incite/pacify movement chain against her as they cheat it when she is open and in a place they want her

    4) taking out her crew first then focusing on her

    5) opponent just ignores Pandora and her crew mostly and goes for the VP win through achieving objectives, etc

So how do you overcome each of those? Pandora doesn't do that much for her crew does she?

  4. I have this idea in my head which I quite like, but not sure if it works. The Dreamer appeals to my twisted sense of humour as having a child think that he is dreaming and playing with things is quite fun. I have found various miniatures that can be used to represent his Toy-box... so:

    1) Do Collodi and The Dreamer work well together?

    2) Would these also fit the theme?

    3) Would a crew of The Dreamer and just "toys" work for most strategies?

  5. I had a go with Raspi the other day against Lady J. Her spells were quite devastating when they went off. The fact that she can use minions for LoS is useful for keeping her safe, though the poor minions in the open got blasted from the Death Marshalls' guns. Ice Pillars were good for wasting shots as they cleared charge lanes, but they were quite easy to destroy. L.J eventually got into melee with Rasputina and from there on it was over....

It was only a quick demo game so only 20 pts worth. I was given (from what I remember):

    Rasputina

    2/3 Ice Gamin

    1 Silent One

    8 SS cache

    vs

    Lady J

    Judge

    3 Death Marshalls

    and whatever was left

So I figure that seeing as most games will tend to end in melee, and the fact that range attacks don't realistically have that many turns to be effective due to the board size and the fast movement potential of models.

So how do you prevent Rasp getting into melee?

  6. I really was after what people thought of the two and how they compared. They are both blaster-style masters but obviously from different factions. So how do they compare in terms of blasteriness and the crew they can take.

Sonia has access to Guild minions which I think are pretty good and has some nasty options.

Rasputina seems more limited if she wants to have a viable crew, though she could take some machine constructs but they don't synergise with her I think...

Raspi seems to have longer and better board control through Ice Pillars....

I guess I could get both, but then that would be expensive to get two factions' models.

  7. Ok. so since I like the concept of McPsycho and I also like undead I'll go with him and see how things pan out.

So for a 25pt crew would this be good:

    McMourning

    1x Zombie Chihuahua

    3x Canine Remains

    2x Rotten Belles

    1x Bete Noire

    7 SS cache

    1) Should I take a Grave Spirit instead of the Chihauhau for a bit more survivability?

    2) Rotten belles I thought so I can push models into melee or try to generally control movement. They can be "works in progress" of the Doctor...

    3) I was thinking that the canine remains give me body parts for summoning a flesh construct or even a rogue necromancy. I can always get more canine remains later if needed.

    4) Bete Noire - lots of things will die hopefully and she will help with the body count. I could always swap her out for another beat stick..

    OR...

    Is this better?

    McMourning

    1x Grave Spirit

2x Desperate Mercenary (victims/donors that just don't know it yet....)

    3x Canine Remains

    2x Rotten Belles

    1x Nurse

  8. Take with a pinch of salt as I'm really not very good but McMourning is a very fun master to play if you don't mind losing now and again. The Body Part / Summon mechanics make for a very interesting game once you get past the first couple of formulaic turns (plenty of advice elsewhere on what those formula are) and McMourning himself can be an absolute monster in combat, slicing and dicing with the best of them.

And he is only getting better with the release of his Avatar next month

If you don't like his fluff though, and don't buy into the whole idea of a mad doctor frankenstein working under the noses of the guild to further his own lunatic ideas (Heath Ledgers Joker) it could well be that he just isn't the master for you.

The best thing I've found since getting into this game is that there are masters for every style of play, you just need to find the once for you.

I like the idea of a Mad Scientist, so no issues with that. But am I doomed to disappointment by getting him? I like his concept and like the idea of frankenstein'ing my own constructs. But when it comes down to it this is a game and no one really likes to constantly being on the losing team, so I have to look at the stats and how they behave on the tabletop as well.

I also can't see where it says that you can summon a Rogue Necromancy. It's not under the Monstrous Creation on my card (downloaded from Malifaux website).

So how do you get your "friendly body parts"? Use Canine Remains and just chop them up first turn? Convert SS to Body Parts?

  9. http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?29668-Sway-Me-Away-From-Resurrectionists&highlight=mcmourning

I did a search for McMourning posts to pick up what I could. Reading this post is rather nihilistic (maybe thats in keeping with the faction) in terms of my wanting to play any Ressers. I did get a bit fed up with Nicodem and the lack of hordes of undead zombies.... they did seem rather pathetic and not really a "horde".... maybe I was doing it wrong.

So am I really just flogging a dead horse going down the McMourning route? Am I wasting my time and money? I'd like to win the occassional game without my opponent having to let me win or feel sorry for me.

NB Dreamer sounds fun, both in terms of fluff and the models. I can imagine a boy's toybox coming to life to lay waste to Malifaux. However, I have yet to try him out and work out how all the complexities work with the Bury mechanic..... I've played three games in total, not yet with one using all the correct rules (still learning...). Pandora from what I can make out, whilst fun for one person is game-wrecking for the other.

Maybe I'll just go back to trying to figure out what to be.... maybe Rasputina, Sonia, or Ramos...

  10. If I were starting out, is Dr McMourning a good choice? I have tried Nicodem and he didn't work out so well....

The Dr model is pretty good, and his avatar and such also looks/sounds as if it has potential. Does anyone have any tips/hints on what should be in his crew or ways of playing him? How easy is it to get he body parts he needs?

What are the pro's / con's of the Doc?

  11. So would you say that avatars are worth their 2SS cost? I read that Pandora's avatar is considered a down-grade, so why would you want to take that?

I can see the point if an avatar changes the play-style of a master, but if its less effective in that play-style then is it worth the cost? Rasputina is good at casting ranged damage, and her avatar is a melee character. I get that, but I've read that her avatar, whilst better than non-avatar Rasputina in melee, is not really that great compared to melee non-avatars elsewhere.

Avatar models are great, it would be a shame if their rules didn't match so they see little table-top presence.

  12. Reading about some Avatars, it seems that manifesting them is a bad idea.

Surely, the idea of avatars was/is that they should be better than the Master from which they came. Even if it involves changing how the master plays, they should be better so that going through the trouble of manifesting is actually worth it.

Or have I got that wrong?

  13. Hello once again,

Now that I have the cards/rules for more stuff I have been looking at a few more options; Hamelin amongst them.

Reading views and such, it appears that Hamelin is for many people, overpowered. I have a few things that I would like to ask though.

    1) Rat Catchers - I can se some tricks that they can use/abuse... Am I right that by using Slaughter Rats and the Voracious Rats together, you can get some cheesiness (pun intended)? So Rat Catcher uses Mouldy Cheese to draw in rats if needed. Once rats are in 6" then use Slaughter Rats to kill them all off. However, because of Voracious rats, you get new rats that can activate again...

    2) Is there anyway, apart from killing things to get more rats?

    3) The death/rebirth thing with Indiscriminate Void is ok. But is there anyway to overcome the -4Ca which is a bit crippling in terms of future casting from then on in?

    4) Can you use Lure Malifaux Citizen to get a new Stolen, then immediately sacrifice said Stolen to use "Useless Toy" for the ++ bonus?

    5) Blight counters... I assume that you use Rats to put Blight Counters on enemy things..

    6) Is the Obedient Wretch worth taking? I guess Blind Dedication is good considering Ham's card mechanic.

    7) If you sacrifice models, then that doesn't count as a kill right? So I guess you use the Stolen from "Lure Malifaux Citizen" for things like "Understand the Soulless", "Obedience", "Abandoned Soul", etc...

    8) How effective are rats? They seem pretty weak, Hamelin doesn't boost their effectiveness apart from making them return if he is within 6"; same for Rat Catcher.

    9) How effective is "Bleeding Disease" as an offensive spell? Do you really build up that many Blight counters? Do Blight counters disappear at the end of the turn or are they permanent for the model they are attached to?

    10) What is the use of "Inevitable Truth"?

    11) What other tricks/tips are there for playing Hamelin? What am I missing that makes him so hated to play against?

  14. So just got the Dead Rider for my Levie crew. Am I right in thinking that if I want to use the Drag ability of the Dead Rider on Leveticus then I need to "attack" Leveticus, causing him damage for the trigger to activate.

I know Leveticus wants to die but is attacking him limiting his effectiveness?
