Like you have the Ten Thunders which is a Trading House warrior brotherhood. In Book 3
there is the fight scene between them and the other Trading House (Dervish Swords or something) with the slave held behind the glass box doing lots of spell-stuff.
But then I guess Misaki might have to be elevated to Henchman so she can hire a crew (Special Forces).

1) What is behind the mask of Lucius?
2) Is the Governor General one of the Tyrants?
3) What is up with the Cult of December? They revere December but when it comes to Him awakening they do their utmost to destroy him.....
4) Rasputina.... her models makes her seem weak and nice.... however in the fluff she is quite the opposite. Should her model be more feral and imposing?
5) So what's next? Are we going to have different avatar forms for the masters since the Event, and they learn to manifest in different ways depending on how they utilise the aether?
6) Are Lilith, Zoraida and Pandora actually sisters.... Pandora seems rather separate from the rest of the Neverborn... even trying to overpower them. Candy is even worse....
7) Will we see other Trading House factions such as the Dervish?

In the case of Hamelin, if the Insignificant represents the effects of the disease then would this not also affect their combat abilities? You can't stand on a piece of ground to claim it but you can fight just as deftly or shoot/cast without issue.
Maybe Hamelin's "insignificant" could be changed to a negative twist (or double) for the encounter rather than the insignificant which is so loathed.
-
I get what being Insignificant means in terms of game mechanics, however, what does it mean in terms of "reality"?
Why are some models insignificant and others not? What does Hamelin do to other people/units that makes them insignificant?
-
My first ever game against Hamelin was with Pandora. It was going fine until he made her Insignificant. Just make sure you keep her as far from Nix as possible.
Why?
-
That sounds like a brain-ache game..... would be interesting to see the outcome though. I suspect Pandora would win though in the end.
-
Any general tips on how I can use Zoraida to beat Pandora? All of Z's crew seem low WP and so prone to death from Pandora.....
Do I enlist as much ranged attack as I can? Convict Gunslinger, Desperate Mercenaries, Gunsmiths.... etc.
-
Hamelin is sort of there... though not full Tyrant glory.
Seamus sort of to...

He plays a big part in the Guild, so would he ever get rules and be a Master?
If so what traits would he have?
Able to hire Guild minions at -1SS cost?

It is interesting I feel that players seem to dislike the Insignificant rather than dead. Why is that I ponder......
I can think of lots of uses for Insignificant models, but not quite so many for a dead model.
Comes back to why is Hamelin reviled whereas there are more potent and annoying master combo's potentially out there?
I'd agree that there must be a better mechanic for handling lots of models, which is going to happen with rats. But then the game is not really designed for lots of models. I wonder if the same happens with Nicodem and MZ's...

Hi,
I already know some local players of Malifaux, but wonder if there are other pockets of players around. I am on the south east coast of the UK, near Hastings.
Anyone else around?

Picked up a Hamelin crew from ebay.
Hamelin
Nix
Obedient Wretch
6 Stolen
15 Rats
2 Rat Catchers
All with Wyrd Sewer base inserts.
Cost me £75 (inc p&p) which I think was a pretty good deal. Not painted or anything and also came with all the cards.
So just need to figure out what to do with him now. And get his avatar when it's released.....
So what should I add to this. I am thinking Night Terrors would be a good choice. I have Terror Tots, though I don't think they fit his theme at all... apart from being Neverborn children...
Brutal Effigy would add some range.
Canine Remains would be themetic - not sure how effective though.
Crooligans - themetic children - again not sure how effective they would be.
Any advice?

To give your finger the precise direction in which it should point, I am the sole reason and fire-starter of almost all Hamelin negativity.
The reason being is;
1.) There are concise methods available that allow you to completely shutdown a very wide group of playstyles,
2.) There are also concise methods available that make it seem like everything your opponent does has absolutely no impact in the game,
3.) There are equally concise methods available that allow you cheese about your opponents in a way very much unkind.
4.) Ratswarms can take a REALLY long time to move about.

When the second book first dropped, one of the first things I did was run a LOT of Hamelin games where I quickly found out the best and most powerful strategies and used him to just ream the competition into the fetal position.
It didn't lose me any friends but it cost me a game group and I wish it didn't.
That's why I said you really should make sure everyone knows everything you're capable of before you run him, because there are some things he's capable of that are just pure anti-fun.
Sure there are negatives about every master that could be said.... just I guess not the same extent as Hamelin. Being Insignificant doesn't take you "out of the game" as such though does it. It just means you don't count for schemes, etc.
Which whilst a pain at least you still have that model to do stuff with.... not as bad as a dead model.
As I said, Terrifying and such would seem to be able to screw around with Hamelin crews as nothing about them makes them special against such effects.
What would a Hamelin vs aSeamus be like...
-
I played against Pandora the other day. I guess Hamelin is similar in that, whilst interesting, it does feel a bit one-sided at times.
So if I just got the Hamelin box set, is that going to be "unfun"? I was thinking of adding some Night-terrors for speed and objective grabbing.
I think I prefer aHamelin to normal Hamelin.. he seems more plague-themed and less hated.
-
I was reading some other threads regarding Hamelin.
Some compared him to Leveticus, saying that Levie was just better at the same stuff as Hamelin. Also, that Levie's increased crew choice makes him more unpredictable.
If this is true, then why is Hamelin so vilified and Levie not...
Also, how would Hamelin deal with Terrifying or things with Anathema as that would seem to wreck his day... insignificant or not.
Finally, does Hamelin count as Insignificant or does his Nihilism affect him as well?
Regarding the above post, any idea when Hamelin is going to get revised?
I also have this feeling that if I invested in a Hamelin crew that it would not get used that often and so I might be better investing my monies else where.... which is rather sad as I liked Hamelin's fluff and "I am Plague" feel.
-
When Hamelin becomes his avatar, does he loose the safety nets of:
1) Not being targetable by Insignificants...
2) Not being able to ressurect with Stolen
aHamelin seems to be all about Blight Counters - even more so than Hamelin. If he applies Blight counters to his own crew, do they take the extra damage as well? If so then is this a good idea? You don't get rats from the stuff that dies do you?
-
I hear Wyrd's next game is "Von Schill - No one else matters."
-
"Why no avatar of Von Schill you may ask? Simple. The Vatican don't want to Wyrd to create a false god!"
"Von Schill doesn't need objectives.... he IS the objective."
Lots from... http://www.chucknorrisfacts.com/chuck-norris-top-50-facts

1) When is the Hamelin Avatar model going to be released?
2) Hamelin sounds as if he needs lots of rat models. This could get expensive.... what about if I used other vermin models as well as rats - after all he is master of all vermin-kind. They can just use the rat rules.
3) Hamelin is supposed to be plague-infested. How can you best represent this on the model? He looks too "clean" to me... should be have bare bone exposed and such... should he be dripping with maggots....
-
How much does Hamelin rely on soulstones? With a cache of 0, I am wondering how many I need to keep back.
-
Does this take into account hiring "out of faction" costs?
-
So can Zoraida's "Repulsive" spell be used to push models out of the game, or do they stop when they get to a table edge?
-
I am left in a quandry then. I like the fluff of Hamelin, his look and the concept of "I am the Plague!". Blight counters also sound like an interesting mechanic as well.
However, from the above comments, I am not sure whether currently Hamelin would be a good crew/master to pick up.
Does he play the way Wyrd intended him to? Did they consider that he would be game-breaking and are there any ways of rectifying this?
-
1) Would the Arcane Effigy be useful for Raspi? I am guessing it would as it would be able to stay near her most of the time.
2) In a crew, how much of an auto-include is Snow Storm?
3) Is it always worth taking both Silent Ones?
4) The Blessed of December.... is this worth the fairly high cost, also being unique?
5) I see/read that the Ice Golem is fairly redundant. Is this really the case or does it have its uses?
6) Does Raspi work well with non-December minions? I am thinking of things like Gunsmiths, etc that emphasise her ranged combat.
7) How good is Raspi vs spirits - i assume fairly good as her attacks are magical.
Hamelin vs Leveticus
in The Outcasts
Posted
So tonight I played my first Hamelin game vs Leveticus. Our scheme was Shared Claim Jump. I took Hamelin's scheme and Eye for an Eye.
35 SS
I had:
Hamelin
Obedient Wretch [2]
Nix [7]
Rat Catcher [5]
2 Stolen [6]
4 Rats [8]
7 SS Cache
He had:
Leveticus
4 SPA [12]
Rusty [8]
Canine Remains [2]
Crooked Man [5]
8 SS Cache
First surprise was when Hamelin took out the Desolation Engine with his Blackstaff in a single hit (9 wounds left). But because of Voracious Rats, we debated.... do the SPA's get summoned back or does Hamelin just get a rat out of it and that's it.
Didn't take too long before the Leveticus player realised that sacrificing the rats was better than killing them as then I can't use Voracious Rats to get them back. So my number of rats dwindled down to zero pretty quick. Entropic Transformation was my undoing....
How do I overcome this problem? No rats means the Ratcatcher was less effective, less models to sacrifice for various things...
Nix is tough! Learned that, though his "Gorge on Pain" was a bit disappointing, as there didn't seem much to do with the free 0 actions.
I realise I didn't really play Hamelin that well, but there must be a way around the Sacrifice issue....
