  1. Just so you're clear, I meant the end result, to me, was better than nice tabletop quality, excellent job!

    Okay, thanks!

great looking crew (coming from a fellow VonSchill player). I also have the box painted, but on my table I have 4 desp.mercs (female, male, Steampunk Dorothy as proxy and Sue also as proxy - I just love the model/idea of using a character from a Cash song - and unfortunately I can't field Sue as himself due to his rule which doesn't allow him playing alongside ruthless models), Mctavish, Hans, Hamelin (non Master) and Convict gunslinger. So I guess I'd recommend these models for upgrades..

In my mind, they fit the merc theme just fine. also, you can always add more freikorps models (a couple of Trappers is always nice to have *grin*)

I am also in love with both the Sue model and his rules/background for being filled with all those Cash references. I am painting one to go with my own Ortega crew.

I'll pass your tips on to my brother. Myself I would love to paint McTavish, a guy using his pet alligator as his weapon is just awesome!

  2. Thanks again!

Awesome work! I love the trappers base especially, it's like a tiny table-ready diorama.

Any plans for additions to the crew, or are they sticking to their own kind for now

No plans for expanding right now, as I said it was a birtday gift for my brother. He is yet to play with this crew but then we will see. Any suggestions for expanding?

  3. Hi!

Took some pictures today of this Freikorps crew, so I thought I would share. Its the box set that I painted for my brother as a birthday gift. I aimed for a nice tabletop quality with some cool ruined bases. So here it goes:

  4. That sounds pretty decent. I'd probably base the to be white parts with a blue/grey color I have and then wash them with a dark blue tone. Follow up by mixing white into the mix. If I ever get to finishing my Ressers and planned rat catching crew, I might pick up a Rapsie and try my go on her crew for funsies.

Did you do the whites on your Perdita model in a similar fashion? Just with brown tones instead of blue?

If I remember correctly Perdita's white pants was painted with layering and mixing colours, no glazes or washes. Starting from Snakebite leather -> Dheneb Stone -> Skull white. Not 100% sure if the basecoat was pure snakebite or if it was some dheneb stone mixed in to make it a little lighter.

  5. Haha! Didn't notice that beautiful Ort crew was yours. I should pay more attention to posters' names. Hehe. Well done, though I do like your Ortega Crew a lot better.

Side note: How do you manage the whites?

I wish a had a ready recipe to give you but unfortunately I haven't. But I can give you a brief summary. First of all I use a white undercoat. The colours I use are only skull white and hawk turquoise, and in some of the deepest recesses a selective wash of asurmen blue. Its all about mixing white and turquoise applying a lot of layers and thinning your paint. Then I just took my time going back and forth with highlights and adjusting the shading until I was happy. Also using som Asurmen blue thinned with a lot of water as a glaze to tie the layers together in some stages.

Not a great explanation but I hope it at least gives you a hint. :)

  6. Which colors are you planning to use on the Orts?

If by Orts you mean the Ortegas I have already begun the painting process with them, topic can be found here:

    http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?31189-For-a-fistful-of-cards!

I am going to expand with Sue, Perdita Avatar, Latigo Pistoleros and some Austringers.

Also earthfade and durek thank you for your kind words.

You seem to be limited to only give out a certain number of thanks at a time so I will thank you this way instead. :)

  7. Awesome looking crew, be a pleasure to face off against on the table. And although I love the original Perdita sculpt I have yet to actually pick it up so i was wondering, is that actually her shirt beneath the buckle slit down to her waist? Looks like an odd texture for skin. Beautiful work nonetheless and as always, thanks for sharing.

Thank you! And that is actually her skin *wink*

Ohhh, thats some awesome looking models!

White pants on perdita are GOLD!

    Very well done!

Share more of your work with us!

    Thanks!

I have to other threads for my painted Malifaux stuff.

    My Rasputina crew: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?28131-Rasputina!&highlight=

Some of the first pictures are rather poor though, but the Snow storm on the last page is really my pride and joy for that crew.

Also I did some completely different and speed painted a Seamus crew, which can be found here: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?29288-Speed-painted-Seamus-crew!&highlight=

  8. Thank you for the encouragement!

I will take a break from painting stuff for this crew until the Blessed of December gets released by Wyrd. Instead I will focus my Malifaux painting time on my Guild/Ortega crew.

  9. So I have had this guy painted for quite som time but today at first I have also taken some pics of him. After reading up on the fluff I finally decided to mount Snow on the same base. So here it goes:

    Snowstorm2.jpg

    Snowstorm3.jpg

    Snowstorm4.jpg

    Snowstorm5.jpg

Also I made some generic objeective markers for the Raspy crew:

    Enjoy!

  10. And if this list is solid, does anyone have any advice on modeling Ice Pillars? I'd like to have actual dedicated bases for ice pillars, preferably with some sort of crystals on them. The crystals don't need to be clear necessarily (I can paint them to match the rest of the army), they just need to be crystal shaped. Suggestions?

I have built some Ice pillars out of insulation, then painted them with PVA glue+water mix before undercoating and painting them. Picture and some additional info in my Raspy thread here: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?28131-Rasputina!

  11. I like the way you have painted this crew mostly in light colours, well executed.

The choice of red on Lady J's blindfold is very nice as a contrast colour and I like that you have added that to the stalker too. Maybe I would be tempted to add some red to the death marshall too. Glowing red eyes might be cool for example...

  12. Geez, you are making us crappy speedpainters look bad man. Just joking ,but seriously thats high-grade speed painting if I ever saw some.

    Thanks! :)

i think i might have to try this too,

Are there any washes that dont work very well?

I have only tried GW washes and they work good.

Even Badab black is useful. I use it for metal parts, for example the gunslinger's pistols.

I would be a bit careful with Devlan mud as it is rather dark, but if you want a dark brown its OK too.

But as I said, key is just to paint on a thin layer with wash and not apply too much.

I figured it there would be a lot of grey brushed on. What do you think about priming black, then doing a second layer of grey spray primer, lighter and not covering as much space?

I think it sounds like it would work.

Maybe you could skip the first step with Adeptus battlegrey (dark grey) without affecting the end result too much also. That is if you want to cut down on the steps even more.
